Hope this does not come off rude or insulting as we have all/most been there and I truly feel for your lose. But I never understood why people will spend literally vehicle amounts of money on corals and fish but don't buy the 200 dollar battery backup for the WaveMaker or circ pumps. My old tank had 6 of the ecotech backups and it literally saved about 20k of livestock. Best 2k I ever spent. Good luck, I truly enjoy your videos and the knowledge you bring to the community.
It is unfortunate that such incidents occur in this hobby. However, your transparency in sharing this information and outlining the steps you plan to take to prevent future occurrences is commendable. Fish look fantastic btw. Thank you for sharing this information.
I feel your pain. I lost 8 fish in one go when a cucumber died. On the power side though, I just bought a 2000w power station with UPS from itechworld. One less thing to worry about when I'm out.
I'm glad you have those precautions in place now. I have to admit.. I thought that the first thing you were going to say was that you had put a petrol generator in place . I just stumbled across your video and I don't know how far you live from the store or your circumstances there . (I'm in Ireland). I have had a couple of power cuts here too. Luckily everyone survived . The power was cut for 11 hours. Wishing you well there . xx
Here in South-Africa we have loadshedding(electricity is switched off by the municipality everyday for 2-8 hours depending on the generation capacity) so the first step you take here to start a reef is to either invest in a large backup system or going completely solar, i have a 5kwh system just for my tank because sometimes we sit for 2-3 days without any electricity.
Sorry to hear that. I just when through a loss in one of my tanks. Recently lost my 2 OG clowns Franky and Charlette who I had for over 6 years so I feel your pain Cam.
I agree the live monitoring is key, but rather than buying a backup battery that only works for the tanks, why not buy a decent lithium power station? Can run the cooler if it gets too hot too, plus you can use it for so much more (when not required in an emergency). Tbh, shop that size should have a backup petrol generator….
I'm sorry dude. I too just lost my favorite fish of all time about 4 weeks ago. My marine Green Spotted Puffer... Had it over 5 years... saved from certain death in a freshwater big box store system. It had a good life but I really don't know why it died. I stayed up nights to try to save it but I really think it may have died from age...
this sadness we know as well, we lost our Flame Hawk and our beautiful yellow Tang, so now we have a Scopas Tang, named "not so yellow". pick up red 2 tomorrow
Same thing happened to me 2 wks ago- storm took down tree that cut power lines to our block. Immediately hooked up ecotech battery backup to mp40 and placed towels on top of tank to conserve heat. Battery lasted 18hrs and temp dropped 8-9 F. Ended up hand floating boiling pots of water in tank to get temp up 6-7 F. Also had battery powered air pumps I could’ve used when mp40 died but power was restored just as mp40 died. I admit I was lucky this time but I’m now looking at larger battery generators 2-3000 watts that could power mp’s and maybe return pump. Heater would be an issue though-power hogs in winter. Maybe 2 battery generators, one for flow and one for heat. Nothing is easy…
Hard to lose any fish but the power going out due to a storm is just out of your control, hopefully with the cctv camera on the tank & Battery back up on the MP40 it will at least give the fish more of chance. 🤞🏻 Love the content as always keep your heads up ☺️
Sorry about your loss but many a times events are destined to happen. I lost 12 yellow tangs 2 purple tangs and many others during shifting to new house. I can't tell how painful it gets when your livestock dies right in front of you and you couldn't do anything. I permanently shut down my 8 footer out of dismay then. Now watch videos like yours to get some entertainment but hobby is over.😢
