Don McLean called February 3, 1959 “The Day the Music Died.” On that day, near Clear Lake, Iowa, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson were killed when their small charter plane crashed in a cornfield. Holly was only 22 years old.
As would be expected with such a horrific accident, Holly suffered severe injuries to his body when the plane went down. The singer-songwriter’s autopsy report shed some light on what exactly happened that night. These are the tragic details found in Buddy Holly's autopsy report.

For years, people spread the rumor that Buddy Holly played at the Community Hall in the thriving metropolis of Vallican, British Columbia. (Population at the time would've been like....3) I once got into an argument with a Supervisor I worked with as he was always trying to prove how smart he was. He claimed Buddy played the Vallican hall in 1961 or 1962. I burst out laughing. I asked him many, many times if he wanted to recant that statement which only made him angrier. Should've seen his face when I told him that Buddy HOLLY died February of '59. What everybody confuses him for was we had a local musician who used the stage name of BUDDY MARR, who had curly hair and dark glasses (because he was blind) and they toured around our little armpit of the world through most of the 1960's. Buddy Marr was actually Nick Keraieff.

Always had to chuckle when someone from Winnipeg said that they lived out west. Well, blow me down. Go one direction after New Denver and hit the Arrow Lake and there is I would be or later go the other direction and stop at the Pulp Mill and don't run me over. Long time ago though. For a VFR rated pilot, when in doubt don't. My Dad was a pilot, he only flew light planes, but emphasized if you see the weather isn't what it needs to be, stay on the ground, or you can get yourself killed. He only had a VFR rating. IFR, or I think it's called IMC, is a different story, and a experienced pilot with an IFR rating could've probably successfully flown that route. Who knows, perhaps the pilot got a little cocky, wanted to pick up some extra cash, and fly some celebrities around gave him the incentive to take this unnecessary risk.

When you impact the ground at 150mph inside a metal tube, that metal tube becomes a whole lotta shrapnel and combined with the force of impact essentially destroys a body. Just look at what was left of that plane! Honestly, I am sure no one on board felt a thing, just instantly gone, no pain just gone. Such a tragedy.

So many musicians killed by plane crashes. You'd think it was a curse. Buddy holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P Richardson, Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Jim Croce, Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ricky Nelson, Randy Rhoads, Aaliyah, John Denver, Troy Gentry, Otis Redding, Jim Reeves, and 8 members of Reba Mcentires band. And thats just what i can name off the top of my head.

Why do they need to perform an autopsy on someone that’s been mangled in a plane crash let along publish it. That’s absolutely disgusting.

What a legacy he left behind after only two short years. He is still so famous in 2022. I wish his baby had survived so we would have a little Buddy Holly. Another tragedy. RIP Richie Valens, The Big Bopper and Buddy Holly, and the poor pilot of course. None of you have ever been forgotten and you never will be 🙏💖🇦🇺

A British band called The Quarrymen changed their name to The Silver Beatles, as an homage to The Crickets-Holly's band. Later, they dropped the "Silver." The rest is History. The Crickets are often thought of as the first Modern rock band. Before them, it was all Doo-Wop.
