Trail BC Canada. Driving in the City & Downtown Area. Life in the West Kootenay Region.

I was a bit surprised at the height that some of these houses are at in the city of Trail. Located in the West Kootenay region in British Columbia, there's plenty of good ski/snowboarding around here in the winters.

Back in the early 80s, I had a friend that worked in Trail. I had no idea where it was and thought it was in the middle of BC, dark, gloomy and a small small little village. Unfortunately, I held that view until now when I saw this video. What a surprise! It actually is a pretty nice little town. I seriously want to visit there soon.

Great to see the Double Happiness and Colander are still going strong! So much nostalgia in these vids. Haven't been back since I left in the mid-80s. Long overdue for a return visit.

Wow . I worked in Double Happiness as a dishwasher in 1981 for 2 month then i went to Selkirk college in Nelson BC to be a welder and moved to Toronto until 1989 moved to Vancouver . I am a 65 year old retired welder and never had a chance to visit Trail , the first city I lived in Canada .

Way back in the mid-1980s, I was a 21 year old Corporal in the (British) Royal Air Force. I was lucky enough to be picked for a 3-week summer detachment to CFB Comox. It was to display one of our aircraft at 3 airshows. (Best detachment ever!) At a crew party at the end of the Abbotsford airshow, a slightly older lady decided I was going to be her entertainment for the night, and I mean all night! She wined and dined me and drove us back to my hotel in Chilliwack. She said it was well located for her journey home to Trail, next morning. Well, I can say she made quite an impression on me! Back at Comox, I suggested to my boss that I might take a car and go to Trail for a couple of days. His reply - 'Not a chance, we'll never see you again.' He was probably right. So, it's nice to see these views of Trail, the city I wanted to visit but never did. Through the power of the internet, I recently found out that the lady in question, still living in Trail, died at a relatively young age. Very sad.

It’s a Sh*t hole. That lead and many other poisonous coming outta those stacks. The waters got lead the airs lead the fish can’t be consumed cause of? Lead. It’s a bland boring town full of people who couldn’t make it in real world so stayed in Trail.

I used to live here during 2013-2019. What an awesome place it was. We moved away to Cranbrook, BC and ever since then i’ve missed this place a lot. The only way i can relive this is by google maps. I wish I could go back soon. Edit: i have officially gone back in 2024 to visit lol, dunno why i was so dramatic in this comment but it was kind of meh for me

I'm looking at going next week but maybe they were stressed because of loss of income due to business shutdowns. I know people who suicided and myself have dealt with depression over it. As a tourist town they likely got hit hard. You never know what their life is like, right?.

As someone who lives here I can say that it's mostly because of a smelter owned by the company "Teck" that runs a ton of the jobs here and it pays nicely. We're by no means rich here but a lot of the families with family members who work there can usually afford nicer vehicles.
