I could not figure out Trail Forks and was about to delete it. Then, I decided to see what videos there were. Yours was the best.

I’m not sure if someone already mentioned this but if you do a long press on the locate ICON it goes into compass mode. It than orientates in the direction your phone points. Super helpful when on the trail.

We’ve used Trailforks for a long time.... and totally missed most of the features you showed on this video, Clint. Thank you for making this video. As a side note, we’re just north of Bellingham, in Canada. So when you showed the TF of the area, I kinda teared up a bit. Damn, we miss riding with our southern neighbours!

New to Trailforks. This is a very informative and well produced intro to the App. Thanks. I have a Garmin Edge Explore. I am going to try to upload some maps from Trailforks. I have 3 kids in tow now and it is good for me to know what I am getting into on new trails. I have to bail out 3 others now, not just myself.

Really good explanation. I did not know how to use a lot of those features and in fact I found the application to be confusing sometimes but now that I have seen your video,it will be much better Very important to me is to tap the little icon in the upper right hand corner a couple of times until it shows me north and the direction the top of my phone is facing simultaneously, no matter which way I turn my body or my phone Thanks

Hey Clint , you forgot about the record function (for your ride), and the auto-import into Strava. and then after your ride it will let you do a trail report on the trail conditions too. I've been using Trail Forks for 2 yrs to record all my rides (and importing into strava) and I love it> Thanks!

@@MommyKat2004 just open TF on your phone, and there should be a "play" button at the top center of the screen, when you press that, it will give you the option to record a ride. Also, one thing I found that helps too, is before you do that, go to settings (3 lines on the upper left of the screen) and go to settings, then GPS settings, and change the "update GPS on Map" to as short as possible (I have mine set to 1 sec), to get the best route tracking. Hope this helps and good luck!

Yeah currently eBikes are not allowed in Pisgah or Dupont, but I know folks who are lobbying for access. I know this is a 2 y/o review, but TF now has a 3D view that can give you a feel of the terrain.

There is a trail in my area that is orange & that's the pro line. I was told red isn't pro line too, but equal to orange. I don't know what white means though. Also in my area the week to week the trails can change. One week it's cool to ride a bike a week later is say hiking only trail then a week later its cool as long as you aren't bombing it down the hill. Edit: what does second access trail mean?

What do think about Trailforks going to a paid model? I have no problem paying for good data and information and will probably pay for it but the fact that all the trails and descriptions were user generated while “free” makes me feel taken advantage of. Built by users and then made to pay for it. Of course this is the model for so many startups and tech companies, like Strava. I think this is a bit different however as the mapping data and descriptions require more energy and care than making a segment to play a game... Curious on your take.
@ClintGibbs
@ClintGibbs 3 года назад
I would pay for it. I don’t have a lot of information yet on the paid model. Right now I know there is a free version and a pro version. I will do some more research soon on it.
@syms85

Is it worth getting the pro paid version? The app scores low on iTunes Store. I’ve only getting back into biking agin in 20years. The free version I’m using the last 3 weeks has been good. I’ve found some good trails. Did a red down hill yesterday like my 5th ride since I was 17! Lol I thought red was below black! Haha.

JogBird agree. Be been trying to figure out how you’d use this for anything except planning. I mean, are you going to stop and pull out your phone at every intersection on a trail? I also worry about GPS / cell reception. I’ve ridden (and gotten lost) in DuPont and things got scary quick for an out-of-towner without any cell reception.
