Trail Review: Lake Havasu, Sara Park - Watershed Loop
One of my favorite things to do, (other than mountian biking), is go on a weekend mountain biking excursion. Aside from riding new trails, there's other adventures to be had along the way. We weren't sure what to expexct on this trip. There was only one real designated trail system and there wasn't a whole lot of info out there to give us a good idea of what we were in for. The terrain we saw on the drive in to Lake Havasu was like nothing we've ridden before.
One of our first stops along the way was at a unique monument in Quartzsite. I had learned about it from another youtuber -Tristan from SUV RVing. / @suvrving
You'll just have to watch the video to see what it is.
After our arrival in Lake Havasu, we checked in to our hotel, made preparations for the next day, and went to grab a bit for dinner. After asking around, we were told that Barley Brothers Restaraunt and Brewery was the place to go. We were not dissapointed. I'd highly reccomend it.
The next morning we found ourselves at SARA Park, a few miles east of town, off of the 95 and Dub Campbell Parkway. The area looked desolate and unforgiving with lots of bare rock strewn hills. We set off to ride Watershed Loop, but the trails weren't marked except for trail markers with numbers. None of which corresponed to any info we could find. We used our gps along the way to stay on track as best we could. We were surprised at how strangely beautiful the area and terrain was. Every corner and hill afforded new and interesting views that left us in awe. I know for some the desert is not a beautiful place. But for those of us with that love and appreciation for the desert south west, this place had its own kind of beauty. The terrain was varied and hilly with massive vistas that made us feel small and demanded respect. The long and the short of it is that we had a blast and looked forward to every hill crest and corner to see what was coming next. We even did several little side treks to explore some interesting areas and imposing rock formations.
We arrived back at the truck exhilirated, burnt, and beat, but we could't wait to get back out there the next day.
If you bike and ever have the occasion to go to Lake Havasu, its more than worth bringing the bike and doing a ride there. I'd love to go back and do some more exploring there.
