Without your video, I would have never changed the oil in my front differential. Turns out there wasn’t even oil in the differential at all. You my friend just saved me over $800 in repairs!!!!!!!

Hi Nathan. I'd just like to take a moment to thank you for all of the Chevy Trailblazer videos you have made. I just picked up an '06 Trailblazer needing some work and your videos have been of great help in getting me on the right track. I know how much effort it takes to shoot and edit these videos in addition to doing the workon the vehicle. So thanks again for what you have done. I, and I'm sure a lot of folks who don't leave comments, certainly appreciate it.

Very true this front diff is notorious for leaking not just from the seals. You have to check the fluid at least once a month in the winter. I replaced my seals and it still has a slow leak.

Great cars in general (GMT-360 platform). Change oil every 5k miles to avoid variable cam issues. In the "rust belt" P.S. lines over left front fender rot fast, add all P.S. lines. Now doing transmission cooling lines for same reason....in fairness, my vehicle is driven mostly in winter as I have summer vehicles so even at 114K Miles on clock and 2009 M.Y. it is living a harder life than most. Other: Thermostat failure (engine does not reach full operating temp), Front wheel bearings, windshield washer pump. All items are easy for D.I.Y. and videos on RU-vid such as this post. I HIGHLY recommend this vehicle for long-term when serviced/maintained correctly. Mr. P

I just want to comment about your statement about changing the front differential by removing the fan clutch an shroud and AC compressor and alternator. Removing the radiator was optional just protect it from damage. Also the AC compressor just needs the line mounting brackets disconnected so you don't have to evacuate the freon. I had tried getting 4 or more shops attempt the job but then turn it down because the shop manual has you pull the engine. The RU-vid videos that have you disconnecting the motor mounts to jack the motor up is almost impossible. In every case you have to pull both front CV axles and remove the actuator mounted on the passenger side of the oil pan before pulling the differential. After that with the fan clutch etc removed I just laid the differential on the cross frame and then lifted it out from the front of the car. Replacement went so easy that I forgot to preinsert the rear mounting bolt in the differential an i had to remove it again to put it in place. As for a periodic check of the fluid level you only need to remove the fill plug and insert your finger in the hole to check the level. Here's one more tip for easy topping up, get a tight fitting tube and a small clamp to hold it in place. Cut the tip off the top of the bottle and place the tube on securely and clamp it. You only Ned a couple feet of tubing. Stick the open end of the tubing in the deferential and squeeze the bottle slowly watching the guild until a little drains out from the fill port. Check this every time you change the oil because access is easiest then and you already have everything ready to clean up a spill.

thank you for the video, very clear , I have question, Front differential in my Trailblazer is leaking, fixing it will cost more than the price of the car LOL, can I leave it without oil if I am not using the 4WD, means I keep the car rear wheel drive? when dose the front differential engage ?
@christopherzube551
@christopherzube551 2 года назад
You could go to any junkyard and look for one. If you are good at do it yourself work then you would save quite some good money changing it out yourself. But if you don't really need it then you can disconnect the front cv axles from the hub and you won't have the service 4wd light on. Take the tire off and and remove brake caliper and rotor, remove axle nut, disconnect upper and lower ball joint, then remove rubber boot in cv axle and take out the first half where the knuckle is. You'll know because it has a crap ton of grease. Leave the other half that is connected to the differential and actuator .then put it all back together. As long as those halves stay in place then you won't have the light on your dash. If you don't ever plan on using the 4wd again than you can buy a pcm for years 2002-2005 for just the rwd and get rid of the 4wd completely.
