Thanks for making this video. I have the same trailer. I was thinking about cutting a rectangle out of the deckplate in front of the winch and dropping in a flush mounted tool box there. I say "flush mount" but it would have about a 1" lip around it to keep water out and a locking lid. I"m not sure how practical this would be as a place to keep chains and straps. I hadn't thought about mounting under the side as you suggested, that might be a better idea if it doesn't bottom out going through driveways and such. I'll definitely use your ideas for mounting and charging though. Thanks again.
Here is a thought for your tool box. I built mine in front of the trailer fender and attached to the trailer rail frame. It doesn't protrude past the fender or in the way of operation. On that note. Arrange the tool box lid to swing away from the trailer so you're not looking over the lid while accessing your tools.
I am in the process of installing a winch (smaller) to my trailer and I was wondering if I could feed the battery from the 7 pin plug. Glad you mentioned that. Thank you !!! Good Video
I connected the battery and winch that way. But at end of day the positive side wire that goes connected to 7 blade connector melted the insulation on wire. I have a 10 gauge stranded wire. What gauge did you use?
Finally a quality winch, sick of garbage freight. p.s. if you still want to put it in a box, look into side mount boxes. very narrow has a step that will hang over front.
A back row of self taping bolts and a couple bolts with washers in the front works as well. The tubular frame is plenty strong for this trailers max load of 7000 lbs. Welds are over kill but if you got it why not toss a couple beads down.
Did you have any issues with the cable hitting/dragging on the bed of the car hauler when loading or unloading a car due to the mounting location of the winch being about flush to the bed instead of up higher on the frame?
very nice setup and a good looking hauler. I have a custom made Maxey hauler and just put a winch on. I was curious how to charge the battery from my truck and really liked how you tapped into the brake box. What size in line fuse did you use and is charging ok and do you still recommend that charging set up
Nice trailer and really nice winch. "C" grade installation. To anyone wanting a car hauler with winch. Buy a car hauler with a winch plate already installed and get better results than Jimmy's. The time and trouble to install an extra piece of steel to mount the winch in the wrong place would have been the same to build a winch plate with a little larger piece of steel at the rear of the tongue. Don't ever forego the proper installation of a very expensive winch for the sake of a $30 part relocation or replacement (either bolt on or welded on by the beer guzzling in-law). Bro should have told you this but you're not gonna get the best job for beer. If it works for you and you like it then all is well. But, not on my rig.
sir thank you for this video can you please show how to hook up the wires from the small box to charge the battery wile you are working with winch and keep it charged than you again from a D.A.Veteran
Very nice job I put a bumper mount 2 inch receiver on the front of my traier and mounted my winch to 2 inch receiver vice mount from harbor freight. Then I can use it on the trailer or my truck and keep it dry when not using it
25 bucks at harbor frieght new 2000lb trailer jack that goes outside the tongue A frame knock that one off or leave it there put the tool box on top of it
Awesome but you never said where the box that charges the battery is hooked to, Which the the one reason I am watching these videos ! ha but great vid nice set up
Better check your owners manual or ask dealer about hooking up to the truck battery---Dealer told me not to & not to jump start other vehicles because it could harm expensive computer in the truck !!!!
Ken Jones I was thinking the same as you and wondering if I needed to run larger wires - so I went ahead and put an in-line fuse in just in case. Several times using it now and - no blown fuse and everything charging great...(even with an out of state trip with the trailer running for 8 hours solid). I did also get a cheap harbor freight solar panel charger and that has been working good also to keep a trickle charge on it. Trailer can sit for awhile and still maintains its charge.
