Thanks for the recap. I've played the Liberl and Crossbell arcs. These recap videos of Cold Steel are just what I've been looking for to get up to speed on the Erebonian arc before I move on to the other games in the series.
I was shocked to hear initially because while cs1 didn't have the best soundtrack in many ways it still had enough powerhouse tracks like decisive collision, to be foundation of the world
One of the things about trails games is that so much of what happens in one is dependent on other games. I played CS1, liked it a lot, and did a second playthrough. Then, I did two playthroughs of CS2, and played other games for a few months, before coming back and doing another playthrough of CS1 (I missed a few achievements the first two times, and wanted to get them) and the game's plot is completely different, because I now have the explanation to stuff I didn't have before. Emma's story makes sense, because I now know about the Hexan Clan. One of the single biggest questions I had the first two times I played CS1 was always: how is the old schoolhouse different every single month? How does that happen? After playing CS2, the answer hit me when I replayed CS1: Driechels founded Thor's military academy, but he DIDN'T build the old schoolhouse, the old schoolhouse was there in his time, and he used it in his own time to become the previous Ashen Awakener. The old schoolhouse changes each month because it was built by the gnomes specifically to serve as the trial for the ashen awakener. Oh, and that door in Longehrin Castle in Legram? That's where the Argent Knight resided before the Lance Maiden became its awakener. Trails rewards you for playing and understanding the plot in other games, and if you don't, well, it can be incredibly confusing. Not sure whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.
@@robertdeffenbaugh9004 See, the thing is, I was primed by the Liberl arc, and Jenis Royal Academy. In the Sky trilogy, "old schoolhouse" was literally the previous incarnation of Jenis Royal Academy and when the new Academy was built, they moved everything to the new digs and shut-down the old one. I though the same thing was happening at Thor's, but the thing is, the "old schoolhouse" is not even a schoolhouse! It's an awakener trial. It's a brilliant bit of storytelling to mislabel a building.
@@SuperSupersoda Oh it seems I need to correct myself and you. It’s not the Schoolhouse it’s below the Schoolhouse where the mystery begins that’s been around since the Dark Ages. Dreichels Reise Arnor ordered the construction of the Old School House on top of the mystery.

@@robertdeffenbaugh9004 Are you sure? I know one thing: Dreichels sure as hell didn't build the bell that's in the tower of the old schoolhouse, that bell comes from the dark ages and is an artifact.
So glad you stan Elliott. He's my favorite character in class 7 as well, and if this series revolved around the soft boy shonen trope he would be an excellent protagonist. And his dynamic with Crow in my opinion is so much better than Rean's. In some aspects, he actually makes for a better love interest than most of the girls.
I feel like the Quartz system was a downgrade coming down from Azure. Personally liked the puzzle aspect of learning arts. Another thing I noticed was that character balance was a bit of a mess. Doesn't get much better in CS2 but it is noticeable in CS1. Fie and Jusis in particular have difficulty fitting in the party since their niches weren't really there until CS2. Fie doesn't have her ranged counter attacks, making Gaius the better evasion tank. And Jusis lacks the master quartz that empowers both strength and arts as well as Royal Shield. There are also characters like Machias that takes a bit of creative thinking to get his playstyle going, he wants a lot of debuff quartz in his orbment.
I played this and earned the platinum on the Vita back then which HAD NO turbo! But turbo wasn't really a thing back then so I didn't think of how slow it actually was! Great review bro!
About your theory, Falcom loves to use descriptions as placeholders for characters before we get to know their name. It's just the way they like to do things, don't read too much into it 😅😆 Cool theory, though. But I don't think it's her father. It's part of her background, pretty much everyone in Class VII is orphaned in one way or another. Btw, loved your video, very thorough review reminded me of many points I'd completely forgotten and I loved that you used one of my favorite OSTs from Ys IX. Also Towa best girl! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I also share your feelings about Emma, but I was mad at her for not spilling the beans already and being so damn secretive, instead of being mad about the character development itself. You know? They've gotta save something for the next games. It's like KeA, we only got to know the truth about her far into Azure. And yeah, that mecha part is also "spoiled" in the game's opening (I always wondered when they would come up) and there's basically a giant mecha right in the center of the icon and background theme for the game on PS4 😑
Curious that if you played this game first you wouldnt be as interested as you are in the series. For a lot of people is the other way around, if not for cold steel they wouldnt hqve interest in previous games
I dont understand how you think Cold Steel music IS a step down , all the CS are top notch musically, its considered to be the highlights of the franchise musically-wise, Unisaga and Jindo BEST years maybe along Azure.
Cold steel 1 music is such a clear drop in quality i dont understand how anyone could disagree lol. Fighting giant ghost with a scythe and music goes as hard as a overboiled instant noodle.
58:42 The burning pain I felt when you called an excellent Xenogears reference Persona. You even put the final boss music of Xenogears there so I don't get your statement lol.
@@BLACKDISC It was even confirmed on Twitter by a former XSEED employee on the localisation team to be a direct reference to Grahf. Wasn't trying to shit on you in my first comment by the way. Loved the video. :)
CS1's music is definitely a step down from Azure/Zero, but that is like taking a step down from downright godly to fantastic. CS1's soundtrack grows on you in time.
1:03:46 (Spoilers talk) Not sure how or why Crow and Millium show up in Garrelia Fortress in chapter 5, when they were absent in the intro version. Did the cannon in the intro actually fire and destroyed Crossbell in the og timeline? And the new timeline version it does a fake shot in case it was triggered on accident? Im not sure why Crow and Millium are still there tho but I guess its a consequence of KeA changing the timeline. Can someone refresh my memory?
i'm just thinking right now that maybe crow has to be there so you don't end up fighting C at garrelia. He's still trying to hide his identity, and the party is able to defeat scarlet and vulcan. If crow was there, it might've tipped the balance enough for a second shot to go off. Millium is probably there as a result of that, like maybe the only way crow can end up in class 7 is because millium has to spy on him.
I could never say anything bad about this game. This was my first Trails game. Actually, it was one of the first jrpgs i ever bought. And by the way, Laura is best girl.
The first one is 'Hoshi no Arika bossa nova' ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jqlyhunxEfc.html ) The outro is 'Hoshi no Arika beat' ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GiS1_9BdJlc.html )
