Train Aficionado LIVE: A Railfan Programming Guide: BC125AT
with Jonathan Higgins
Jonathan will share his tips and tricks for programming one of the beloved scanners in the rail-fanning community; the Uniden Bearcat BC125AT. During this hour-long show we will look at the best way to program the scanner and how to do it with the BuTel ARC125AT software. Although this show will be geared towards railroad programming, this is one of the best analog "Transportation Scanners" out on the market and can be used for monitoring rail, aviation, and maritime.

I purchased the Uniden sds100 but after reading someone’s review at what a poor rail fan scanner it makes I think I’ll get this 125AT instead. My main thought was to be able to catch local police and sheriff department radio but I Realizing now, most of that is encrypted now

12:20 I'm not sure if this has it, I don't see why it wouldn't, but there should be a mode where you can have close call enabled but doesn't cut out or interrupt if it's receiving a signal.

I added the 2 UHF Mary and Fred frequencies to the end of the list so I can hear them coming and going.

Hi Jonathan. What’s the advantage of programming in the 97 channels vs using the railroad service search built into the scanner?
@trainaficionado
@trainaficionado Год назад
You can hop to a channel fast. AAR channel 22 is programmed on channel 22 on the scanner.

Hi Jonathan, I purchased a BC125AT for my 8 year old son and was planning on using your guide to set it up like you did since I really don't know anything about scanners. I cannot find the frequency/AAR guide you mentioned on your website. Looks like it isn't there any longer in January of 2024. Can you steer me in the right direction? Thanks.

Hi Jonathan, can you recommend an external speaker that will work well with the 125 when out in the field railfanning.

I’ve had time finding a good lapel speaker. I’ve used this one but it’s $$. This loud and rugged. - www.scannermaster.com/Valor_Scanner_Blaster_Lapel_Speaker_p/27-571967.htm
