------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some of the first American airmen to join the air war over Europe were the volunteers of the RAF’s Eagle Squadrons. In 1942 they were transferred to the Mighty Eighth Air Force under the 4th Fighter Group, based in Debden, Essex. The 4th was the first fighter group to penetrate German airspace, the first to escort bombers over Berlin, and led the first shuttle mission from England to Russia. Under the indomitable leadership of Colonel Don Blakeslee, they became the highest scoring unit of the USAAF, destroying 1,016 enemy aircraft in the air and on the ground.
In this campaign you will join the 4th Fighter Group during the first week following the D-day landings, and relive every mission they flew exactly the way they happened 80 years ago. These were meticulously recreated based on original documents and personal accounts with a keen focus on the finest details, allowing you to firsthand experience what it was truly like to take part in ‘The Mighty Endeavor’, one of the greatest military operations in history.

Flight lead apparently has Superman vision. Because how the h**l he saw that that halftrack from a dozen country miles away, through the fog, I'll never know. Jesus. Lol.

At about 4:52 does that dialogue say "okay goody"? I remember reading Tumult In The Clouds by James "Goody" Goodson about his time in the air force flying P47's and P51's. I hadn't clicked until now that of course this was his unit. I highly recommend the book some really interesting stories he has to tell!

Agree! ... BUT ... maybe, just maybe ... Lead figured there would be too much AAA for a flight of four, especially an AI flight and/or their current skill level. Maybe with more flights, more experience, and maybe even an entire squadron they could co-ordinate an attack from multiple vectors to spread the AAA. But that was awfully juicy, to even "lob" a few hundred .50 rounds in from max distance.

Interesting... Based on Pierre Closterman's book the germans were defending their airfields like a swarm of hornets and their flak was horrific; he had to fly a Spitfire Mk5 "clipped-clapped-crapped" against Fw-190 and Me109s (i don't remember what variant it was during that time). Until they recieved Spits Mk-9, they were buggered...

There isn't any way flight lead actually saw that truck. It was just an excuse to hit the deck and go looking for targets! That's what makes a good leader. LOL

Read the an account of a Canadian soldier who was taken POW within the first couple of D-Day. Disarmed, searched and sent behind German lines, they were loaded into cattle cars with other allied POWs to be shipped East towards Germany. He said the sound of allied fighter and attacker planes scared the daylights out of everyone, as they were prime targets locked in their cattle cars. Most of the time train would slow down or stop during an air attack and their German guards would book it away from the train to hide on the railway siding, leaving the POWs quite helpless.

Are these missions dynamic? Meaning, was it a random happenstance for the bombers to scrub their mission? For your flight to spot a train at the end?
@WWXspartan058

No, they're created from actual mission logs for this squadron and run in order of how the events actually happened.
