As a retired railroader, this doesn't look as scary to me as it would have if the derailment had happened maybe 1/2 mile further to the north, where there is almost no shelf outside the tie ends. My wife asked me, when we rode this and the CATS in 2014, what those funny looking white things hanging on the tender were for - re-railing frogs of course, and I guess those are in use here, but it looks like they are having a time re-railing the commissary car. Evidently that was the only car that went on the ground.
That's what I would like to know too. It was only doing like 8mph and the curve isn't very sharp. Is it possible something bumped into it from the side and pushed it off?
