My wife's grandfather, Brynjulf Johannessen Rogne, came from Voss to Kindred, North Dakota in 1900. His two brothers who stayed in Voss were carpenters on the Bergen Line and built many stations, including the one at Finse. My wife and I love watching these videos, since so many places are familiar to her. Most of the Norwegians who came to Kindred to farm were from Hallingdal, and there is still a Gol Lutheran Church a few miles outside of town.
Always so amazing when you are walking to your engine - not a soul in sight.....looks so unprotected like anyone could just hop in an take off but i no that is not the case - I am still in awe of your videos - I am from Wisconsin USA and only have Amtrak to compare too Thank you so much
Thank you so much :D Yep, but they would not get anywhere without knowing how to operate it :D And besides :D Derailers are in place in areas meant for parking trains :D
for the people that do not like watching videos with tunnels, don't watch, your are not being forced to watch, there is the door if you do not like them, always a pleasure to watch from the hot seat at front, more please ;-)
I never tire of this snowy movie; it is new every time. When it is 95 degrees outside in New Orleans, I come inside to take this ride from Bergen to Al to get my mind right !
I like the tunnels. The different types of construction used to build the tunnels fascinates me .... makes you think the workers did whatever they had to do to get the tunnel thru ! Then there's the various lights and signs inside the tunnels, and no lights in some. And in the Winter scenes, there is the occasional open place where the snow gets in. And I'm always looking to "see the light at the end of the tunnel" ! It's all a part of the trip, the same trip the Driver sees. The slider is always there for those who need it. I won't need it, since I'll probably be asleep before the 5th tunnel anyway........
Thank you very much for another fantastic video. Hopefully your bosses realise these are the best free tourist adverts they could ever wish for. All the best from Ireland.
Seriously. I'll bet because of you, more non-Norwegians think about Norway these days than since, I'll guess the Lillehammer Olympics. Everyone who has watched this channel for only a short while wants to ride this line. You should receive a percentage of the gross amount of post-covid Norwegian tourism income for at least five years, adjusted for inflation if necessary. Almost every inquisitive person has visited this site in the past month. And we're dying to visit Geilo.
I admire your skill level and train handling with all the grades and curves you get tested every time you go to work. The miles of snow sheds and tunnels is amazing. Thanks for a great trip
I cannot stoop watching these videos! Thanks for showing the pre-departure process too. Love the early morning images in the yard with workers and their flashlights, the low dwarf signals and the glow of the city...and of course the run up the “hill” too...splendid.
Cow Girl, Your cab rides are my boyhood dream come true. They are SPECTACULAR! I'm 84 and haven't been to Norway since 1960 when a buddy and I toured extensively in an old VW. I'm in the Dallas area and could use some of your cool air about now. Please leave your informative placards on screen for a lot longer as they add a whole lot to the trip. Thanks.
Agree...the placards are helpful so one can follow the route of the train on Google Earth! And often time they're gone before I can load the names into the google earth search box.
Thanks for showing the glimpses of startup process, so it is certainly more than ignition key.. :) Your videos are both beautiful and informative, kudos!!
Thanks for the Start - Up ...It's a bit different to what I saw when I worked on UK railways. It's always interesting to see how other people solve the same problems
Glad to see the progression from beautiful scenery to the work and responsibility of running the train. All the videos have kept me glued to either my computer or the television. I will be travelling to Norway in the next year or two. Will take the train across to Bergen and then the "postal" ship, through the fjords up to the north.
If that were the case I wouldn't be with a better train driver. I have travelled on several continents and many countries by train. Along with ocean liners it is the best form of travel. nowadays.
Hi railcowgirl...my dad " Le'Bron Prater " was a jazz pianist in Holland..Norway..Ive Been trying to find his music...if you see anything plz let me know...peace🙏🏾🎹🔉🎶
It may sound silly, but I find it hard not to imagining I am piloting a space ship exploring Hoth. I love your posts. The info graphics are wonderful and the scenery is spectacular. Thank you.
Hello from Oz.. so love awakening to find you've created another journey. You truly are causing me to fall in love with Norway. Keep them coming pls HCG :>
"Nice all the way" she says! Goodness, I had to put on another sweater and turn up the heat here! I look out my window and see snow, I look at another fantastic HCG video and see more snow! Can't wait for summer, actually, when I can open my window, feed our birds, try charming a feral cat and grin a lot! HinduCowGirl? You did it again! Awesome!!!
Thank you again HinduCowGirl! Just started watching. Love all the extras you put in your videos, the walk up to the train, entering the cab, checking the dials etc. It really adds to the whole experience. When I was little the driver of our local Aberfeldy - Ballinluig train, known as the Coffee Pot, invited me and my grandad up on to the footplate, but I was too scared of all the hissy steam and fiery boiler. (I saw the very last train there off in 1965, a Deltic diesel)
Thank you, again. You take me places I'll never see, but would love to, and take my blood pressure down better than my medications do. Looking forward to the next one!
Wow! You sure have to get up early to get to work! Thanks for the great video! I never get tired seeing these videos covering the same area. Every video is different. The weather gives me a different feeling when watching these videos, making each one new and fresh. With all that ice and snow, I hope your locomotive has a good heater! I almost wanted to put on my down jacket! (LOL) I like the ice "flows" on the mountain at your stop at Bolstadøyri. It really looks cool! I am retired and have problems sleeping at night. Watching your super videos is a great time to pass the time! Thanks again!
Thank you for all the hours of delightful railway films you have recorded , you show details that would be missed by most film makers. Keep up the fine work .Best Wishes.
So I said to this train driver ‘I want to go to Qslo’ He said ‘Then you need nothing but the best, HinduCowGirl!’ Bravo!! Just another video masterpiece. 😘
The Herd sounds a great big cacophanous MOOOOOOO!!! Rejoicing in another Bergen Line cab ride new, We're in the loco watching the snowfall twirl, It's driven by our beloved HinduCowGirl!!!! Ta muchly for another great run, dear lady. I can go Saturday shopping now😃
I have been running with this lady many times along this line. She as the driver and me as a conductor back in the train. And she is preeettyy good. Is not many that can handle a train that nice than HinduCowGirl ❤
What a great video. Very interesting and informative startup. Would really like to see more of the engine. I see below in the comments that there is some disagreement with regard tunnels. I have to say I do enjoy the tunnels, so I hope you don't get rid of them. However, maybe if you make a few videos without the tunnels, this may keep those who don't like them happy. But to be truly honest. I fail to see why anyone would be complaining about anything you have filmed. You are doing it to entertain people who have now become your fans and it was the whole trip, tunnels included, that got you all these fans in the first place. I am happy to watch tunnels, windscreen wipers, and snow black-outs as you plow through the snow. Your videos are so clear and very informative, plus they are mesmerizing. Keep doing what you do @HinduCowGirl. Don't change a thing and thank you for giving us the privilege of being inside your office which is somewhere no one ever gets to see.
I think people complain too much. It is not difficult to move the playback slider along by a few mins if it's really causing people so many problems. If HCG can be bothered, it is quite trivial to do this in the video editing software anyway - you just insert a 'skip to ... ' button on the video and when clicked it will jump whatever point has been set, but I can imagine this would be time-consuming to do for every tunnel!
The videos are perfect as they are. And as you have pointed out, anyone can just move the slider forward. I would not like to see HCG overburdened with trying to satisfy all these requests. She has graciously decided to film her journeys, then share her videos with us. I am very happy with this and am always looking for the next instalment, knowing it will be as good as the last, no matter how many tunnels are in the video.
Hear, hear Shrek! Definitely tunnels and all. As others pointed out, it's very easy to move the playback slider if one doesn't wish to go through the tunnel real time. The massive engineering accomplishments through those mountains is almost as mesmerizing as the scenery itself.
Love the videos. Don't see if it's been suggested before, but I would love to see a picture or short video of the train you are driving to have a real appreciation of the whole experience. thanks...
Veľmi prekrasne natočené video 😉😉😉😉😉. Obdivujem krásnu prírodu Nórska , kde je veľa tunelov a mostov a samozrejme prekrásne trate 😉😉😉😉😉. Pochvala veľká a palec hore 😉😉😉😉. Perfektné super 😃😃😃😃😃😃.
Another great adventure with you. I love your attention to detail and the inspection and startup sequence you gave. Keep up the great videos. ps: can't figure out the donation page stuff but will get there eventually :0)
Ah! I think I might know why! :D Type in your nick, then amount, then push "Cowfund" in the bottom. and then you'll be taken to where you can choose paypal og card. :D I thin I will change the name "click here to fund the cow" haha! And THANK YOU 🙏!
All aboard the "Polar Express!" I remember winters like this in America, in the 1990s & 70s. Loving all the snow, and the train trip was awesome! I was so relaxed. Last night I fell asleep listening to the hum of the train. So I finished watching it this afternoon envisioning myself on this trip. Bravo!!
Quem pilota essas máquinas tem que ter muita mas muita coragem quando entra nesses túnel chega da falta de ar thankyou vcs são maravilhosos excepcional
I love those Stadler Flirt EMUs Network Rail has ordered a large Quantity of them for both Greater Anglia services and for Transpennine routes ours will be bi-mode units
You know what I find the hardest thing about watching your videos? Staying awake! For some reason these mesmerizing videos just put me to sleep. Hehehe. I have always loved train rides and I guess the constant hum from the loco and the winding through all the beautiful country, is too much for my brain to stay focussed. I just think they are the Bee's knees!
what a superb video. thank you. i have one question. i wanted to see the exact point, after crossing myrdal station, where the line to Flam goes to the left. it should have been around the 1:59:00 mark, but i miss it. perhaps because of the snow!
That section were the river is on the left, reminds me of the New York Central water rout from NYC To Albany NY. Palasades across the river. Back in the day it was a 4 main line track.4 track main line.
Well as always you have amazed me with another beautiful video. Sure glad I've been watching your other ones over and over. I done watched all the videos on youtube on Norway. I am addicted with this country. My dream place to visit. Nope won't get too. But my dreams coming true watching you in all your travels. May I ask which one of these beautiful cities do you live in? If so what do you like doing to pass the time when off from driving trains? Just wandering. Well looking forward to more of your videos keep them coming. Safe travels ahead. God bless.
Thanks a lot! Yes, there are many long tunnels on the Bergen line. I have a few videos in the information runs playlist where I have added the tunnels names and length, you can find them here: ru-vid.com/group/PLqVXtaI0Orw7ageOY4IQCpTQwYRmqryZI&si=eDFp3hm5vPOWMpz5 And also on my website I have a list of the tunnels on the Bergen line: www.railcowgirl.com/tunnels-bergen-line/
Yet another great video HCG, many thanks. After leaving Geilo, I noticed up on the hill/mountain-side a broad swathe cut through the trees. I looked on Google maps and it shows on the satelitte view as extending several km's yet the map itself shows nothing. Can you say what it is please?
Tak for en utrolig flot tur - det var helse for sjælen på en kedelig sygedag. - nu står turen fra Oslo til Bergen højest på ønskelisten over togture i fremtiden. Thanks for an incredible ride - that was wery healthy for the soul on a sickday at home. - now is the ride from Oslo to Bergen nr 1 at the list of trainrides i must see. Et side spørgsmål: Ligger Geilo i Setesdalen? a sidequestion: Lies Geilo in the Setesdal area?
One of the most beautiful videos with winter landscapes ever! Thanks for sharing it! A couple of questions please: How long did it take you to upload it? Video size gb? Software? Thank you.
