Being a train engineer is very stressful. I hear stories all the time of trains striking a person, and it just breaks my heart as to what the family of the person is going through, but most importantly what the engineer is going through. Most people blame the engineer, when it’s not always their fault. Some people don’t pay attention or don’t think, and they either get injured or killed. Almost makes me cry typing this. Remember the three L’s. Look, Listen, Live

I say the same thing. Recently, a Metra UP Northwest train struck a pedestrian in Arlington Heights. The person wasn’t thinking, and walked out in front of the train, and got killed. It puts a lot of weight on the engineer’s shoulders that they have to go through this, but it’s how the job goes. People don’t think, and put their lives at risk. I always say remember the three L’s. Look, Listen, Live. I know it’s operation lifesaver, but it makes sense.

If I became one, I think I’d be good at avoiding this feeling of guilt if I hit a pedestrian. It’s common knowledge to never mess with a train, so it ain’t my fault.

@@oceanthresher6184 you are absolutely right. I would feel a little guilt, but for the most part as you said it’s the pedestrian that’s at fault. Use common sense when around trains
