Train Sim World 2 - Route Learning: Aachen to Köln High Speed Run (BR406/ICE 3M) 

Hi there, some information on the abandoned platforms (17:30 in the video). They are the remains of Nothberg Station, which has been out of use since 2009. However, 5 years prior to that, a new station opened on the parallel running railway line a little to the north of the mainline, which carries half-hourly local trains. The resons for the closure were low passenger figures (enough for the new local services but not for regional trains on the mainline) and improved capacity on the mainline. The local line splits off of the mainline at Stolberg and rejoins it at Langerwehe. This local train line, the RB20 or "euregiobahn", is in of itself quite interesting: The trains run around Aachen and its neighbouring towns in weird bow-like shape, with the two ends meeting at Stolberg. There were plans to fit these mainline trains with tram equipment (like indicators and rear view mirrors) and let them run directly into the city centre of Aachen. Not tram trains running on railway lines like in other towns, but proper heavy rail trains running in the streets. The plans are now abandoned, but there is always talk of revisiting the plans.

I really enjoy watching your videos. They are so informative and interesting to watch. Thank you! Just some information about lzb end and afb. When lzb ends, the afb is automatically disabled and you will be unable to use the throttle. This prevents you from speeding away as you described. After lzb end, you need to reset afb. To do this, cut the throttle to zero, turn off afb, move the afb handle to zero, move the afb handle to your desired speed, reactivate afb. All should work again. It can be quite fiddly when dealing with approaching speed reductions!

It'd definitely be quite uncomfortable to leave the power controller in maximum power whilst following red signals under LZB, so a better driving practice would be either to idle the power or apply a little bit of power to keep the train ticking along instead of having jolts of acceleration every time the signal clears. Awesome video, great to see you back!

Excellent video, much appreciated! Just a note on SIFA: It's considered better form to reset SIFA when the white indicator light comes on, rather than to wait for the auditory alarm, which is only intended as a fallback. It's also possible (and, as far as I know, permitted) to preempt the visual alert altogether by resetting SIFA every 30 seconds on so unprompted.

Thanks PTG, I upgraded to TSW2 during the Steam Summer Sale and received Köln-Aachen. Being familiar with similar systems, I dived right in and love the automation, but it's good to be a passenger on your drives and to get the LZB activation and control points clear in my mind 🙂👍

@PTGRail, Nicht Einsteigen means Do Not Board. So in a more common way in Brittain it would be Out of Service. If you'd like more German to English or even Dutch to English translations, plz let me know as I'm happy to help. I am glad to see you're back making quality content. I must say that your videos are what got me into train simulation in the first place, and most everything I know about UK and German railroads came from your videos. So big thanks for that, and I hope your "short" foray back into RU-vid is not going to be that short after all.

I took a ride with that train when I was a child and it hit 306 kp/h (190 mp/h) on Köln Frankfurt High Speed line

I know what we should define tilt do. Bakerloo line because it will help me learn the full route end to end

Great to see you back! 😊 I noticed you have the same thing as me when going to Köln in the ICE, where the LZB keeps speeding up and slowing down the train as red lights come and go in front. I’ve done dozens of routes in this train in this game, but I seem to get that every time.

Another fine video, Peter. From my O-level German back in the 1960's, the two dots over the letter O (called an umlaut) turns the O into sounding like the English word 'err'. That makes the pronunciation of Koln as Kerrln.

Great video once again. It did feel smother watching this. The higher the quality the better the result after RU-vid compression algorithm .

P.S. when approaching an LZB restriction, you'd generally cut the power in order to avoid accelerating and decelerating in rapid succession, as this wastes traction power. It is also not permitted to approach an LZB halt/danger signal without manually breaking yourself.
