A minor delay?! This is the Brighton mainline; it should be at least 1 hour delayed! ;)

Even that's too soft! Don't you mean cancelled :P Or maybe a week late!

Not just that, one of the least busy trains for a while, did you notice how many passengers got on at the varies stations! not many considering that it was the rush hour, perhaps it was a Sunday morning.
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 8 лет назад
Considering I have to travel with Southern daily during term time at uni, I concur. I'm only travelling the less busy East Coastway but the service is horrendous. Even worse on the Brighton Main Line itself!

Yeah lol I go on that train every day! Not that good of service.

I liked the Apology for 'Severe Lag We Might Encounter', any excuse for a late running train ;) Hope it isn't the wrong type of Lag! Great video as always, the cab sounds are very authentic and makes a lot of difference to the experience. When setting off on a journey you should carry out a running brake test (i.e. reduce the speed of the train by at least 5mph) before stopping at the first station, on a 442 it should be a running brake test with the Auto brake, you can then switch back to EP for the actual stop. This obviously tests the brakes as well as giving the driver a feel for the brakes which could vary especially in the old days when they used brake blocks. Thats not a criticism just thought I'd mention it.
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 8 лет назад
Haha, yes, it was the wrong kind of lag ;) Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. I really enjoyed driving this train, and the sounds are much more realistic with the AP sound pack installed. I should indeed have done a brake test, I've been on enough trains where they do that! I just forgot to do it in this video. I didn't realise that you would normally do it with the auto brake though. Thanks for the tip, I will try and bare it in mind for any future Class 442 videos :)

One thing missing in TS with the 3rd rail electric trains is the bright arcing that you get as contact with the 3rd rail is broken and remade.
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 8 лет назад
Agreed, with even more arcing in the rain. Would look very cool!
@akarouge
@akarouge 6 лет назад
Purely because the third rail is cosmetic in the game, only track rules matter.

Sir, that train is not parked! Thank you for this excellent video. Very much enjoyed watching it. And the lag you anticipated wasn't anywhere near as bad as I expected. I think you got the balance just right.
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 8 лет назад
Thanks, glad you enjoyed this video. I agree, the lag wasn't quite as bas as I expected either. I wish you could run this game lag free, but alas that's not currently possible.

Brilliant instruction, but just one minor thing... With these units - and infact all Southern Region units from '51 stock up to this '88 stock, as soon as the train has started moving, you can open the power handle ( more correctly called the 'Master Controller' ) all the way to Notch 4 (Weak Field). The official driving instructions state that the fastest rate of acceleration can be obtained by opening the power controller all the way to Notch 4.

Great video as always Pete. I've traveled on this line a fair bit between Redhill and Gatwick on the service from Reading as I've flown from there on a number of occasions. That's a really nice run and it would be great to see it as a future route or even extension to this or the Portsmouth Direct line. Just out of interest, how long does it take you to set up a scenario with this many AI trains in? I've created a few in the past with about 20 or so and that took me ages. Maybe you could do a video showing how you create yours?
@BanditsVCops
@BanditsVCops 8 лет назад
There is an extension to the PDL to include the BML, West Coastway and Arun Valley and also the SWML to Waterloo, check out UK Route Designs on Facebook

@PTGRail 8 лет назад
Thanks Will. I really enjoy driving this route, it's definitely my favourite in Train Simulator. I'd love to see the route down to Portsmouth from this line via Horsham and Arundel at some point in the future. This scenario took me around 8-hours of work to put together. Thankfully it worked the first time when I tested it, or else it could have taken many more hours than that! I do plan on making a scenario creation tutorial in the future, I just haven't got round to it yet :)

It's classed as a Southern service the 07:32, but uses Express stock.

Indeed, as BanditsVCops said, this is a Southern service but it's operated using Class 442s. Hence the skipping of Gatwick Airport.

I can't believe that the community is doing the work of creating networks out of the available DLC that DTG ought to have been setting as their goal from the start.

@BanditsVCops 8 лет назад
Danny who merged London-Brighton and South London Network is a DTG Employee.
@BollocksUtwat

BanditsVCops I assume he's still doing it on his own time though and that it gets no official support.
@robertpowell8309
@robertpowell8309 8 лет назад
Because the game isn't designed for large routes with lots of scenery - see performance issues on the recently released JT western mainlines (at launch - the patches have significantly improved performance) and the fact a Bedford to Brighton run on Danny's merged routes can and will crash because of the TS2016 memory limit
@BollocksUtwat
@BollocksUtwat 8 лет назад
Robert Powell But that speaks to the fact that they never bothered to try and make the game capable of handling this. Their priorities were elsewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if the next iteration wasn't any better in this regard.
@robertpowell8309
@robertpowell8309 8 лет назад
32bit limitations my friend - can't use more than about 3.6 gigs of memory before the game ups and dumps. - TS2017 is going to be on UE4, thus 64 bit - I will be very disappointed if the routes aren't either a) longer or b) far more detailed or c) a combination of the two ;)

How come when you depart a station, the red lights on the dash go off, and when you stop, they go on?
@ClagManUK
@ClagManUK 8 лет назад
It's the DRA switch which drivers use at station in case of a red signal etc.
@Bvetube101
@Bvetube101 8 лет назад
I'd believe it's and interlock which switches on and off when the train hits a certain speed and therefore acts most likely as a safety device for door operation, I could be wrong

You mean the Shard as the trains enters London Bridge, the capital's first railway station, now fit for the 21st century as an almost renovated terminal. 1836 it was originally opened. Useful to connect other destinations like Charing Cross for the West End and Cannon Street for the City as well as Brighton and London Victoria. Frequent Thameslink trains run along the route to London Bridge and beyond towards Bedford and I believe there are new links to Cambridge and Peterborough as well as Sevenoaks and Ashford I think.
