Train Simulator | D&RGW 'Tennessee Pass' Line |

Sitting at over 11k feet above sea level was (is) Rio Grande's Tennessee Pass - in this instance for Train Sim Classic, the route is dated late 1940's to early 1950's during the dawn of common diesel locomotive use.
The map here, made by 3rd party developer "Milepost Simulations" covers the line from Buena Vista Colorado to Minturn Colorado at roughly 60 miles.
Included are the gp7, F7 and L131 locomotives and rolling stock...

The D&RGW painted many of the boilers on their steam locomotives green in the later years of steam, so that part of the model (as much as its not textured nicely) is correct for the era that the route is set in.

The D&RGW painted their engines green in the 1920’s but went back to black by the time they started using the “flying grande” lettering which the they had by the 1950’s.

Aw man, the aging game engine really can’t do this area justice. In real life the view is dominated by the Collegiate peaks just to the west, but here they’re just a gray blur…

A new route in 2024? TBH it does not look that much better than an old 'All Aboard' route considering how many years between them and asking $40 for it. That is just my view.

At 45:59, those are called Tell-tales; if a brakeman was on top of the cars, it was a warning of a clearance issue with a tunnel or bridge ahead. Camp Hale was where the 10th Mountain Division trained starting in WWII. Belden was a primary lead-zinc mine with some copper & silver.

As a Coloradoan I'm legally required to tell you it's pronounced "Byoona Vista" not "Bwena Vista"- yes it's pronounced VERY wrong to the Spanish, but that's what the locals call it. Also great review! Will probably pick this up soon, as an avid D&RGW fan.

its a good looking route. a lot of it ended up single track on the west side. I like the 1994/5-1997 era with the AC4400CWs and later UP's C60/44CWs. its a shame the royal gorge aint represented. SP 262 was the last eastbound and westbound train

Texturing has always been MP's biggest problem, IMHO. Overall, though, they are most certainly better than what we see from HIS, and I'd even say better than G-Trax. The sounds are great on the rolling stock, not so much on the locomotives. The GP7 and F7 are no surprise, same old stuff. The 2-8-8-2 use the chuff and idle sounds from the over-decade old IHH steam locos. The whistle is not a Rio Grande whistle, the bell is just kinda passable. Just kinda meh. The physics are OK, but I have most certainly seen better at this point.

And the backhead is mostly from the IHH locos. It's just sad because we could do better and we simply don't, especially for the money.

A better southern end to the route would have been Salida, just a few miles south with a fair-sized yard. As far as the Royal Gorge is concerned, I'd hope they work on their water textures before tackling that one. (BTW the bridge with RG speed lettering is over Cottonwood Creek in Buena Vista. And a county road takes you through the old Colorado Midland tunnels.)

They should extended from Pueblo to Dotsero where Tennessee Pass Subdivision joins the Moffat/Glenwood Springs Subdivision all away to Grand Junction, Salt Lake City, and the rest of west coast destinations.

The only problem I have with the 2-8-8-2 is the wind shield blocks your visibility when looking out of the cab, also the air breaks are like spring action and are impossible to operate with keys.

Its sad how Milepost, a single guy who builds routes has, consistently, with his last 3 routes: -made better routes than developers made of whole teams of route builders -made better assets than that same team -made better stock than someone who only makes stock -made better scenarios than the guy who only makes scenarios Also, looking at it, most of the stock looks new, with the exception of the coal car, all of the gondolas, and the flatcar.

Im so glad i moved on from this game. Run 8 has checked all my boxes dovetail aint getting another dollar from me. Especially dont support that quief that wears kitty ears

I would have bought it immediately but they didn't model the royal gorge and im not a big fan of this era of the route so im gonna wait for it to go on sale.
