This video was recorded at 75+ mph, literally! But the train was still smooth enough that there isn't much shaking in the video. Number one, this train is amazing, even though they can't yet push it to the 110 mph which it will reach in about 3 years.
There is one restroom per car on a Talgo Series 8, and this definitely was ADA-accessible with lots of available space. The toilet is very powerful and goes through a rinse, vacuum and refill process over just a few seconds. Obviously it's quite different from a standard tank or flushometer-based toilet but it still is interesting to watch. There is a slow-motion replay at the very end of the vacuum action pulling down the water and toilet tissue used for this demo.
If anyone has an idea as to the manufacturer of the restroom unit and toilet, let us know. We think it's an 'EVAC TRAIN' but we're not 100% sure.

I'm guessing this might be the newer Amtrak trains? Because from other videos I've seen of Amtrak toilets, they seem to flush exactly like plane toilets.

Yes. This is a train made by Talgo. Series 8, which just went into service literally one month ago. It was really awesome to be onboard a brand-new train!

Toilet Explorer European train toilets have been like this for a while now, so I'm guessing that Amtrak is finally catching up?

Yes, certain Amtrak segments have much newer trains. These trains are made by the American division of Talgo, a railroad company from Spain. This particular trainset that I was on, the Mt. Bachelor, just entered service in early January 2014. So, yes, literally brand-new :)

hey guys i got some doudt on this particular topic. The waste that vacuum sucks where do they store that waste i mean wher they dispose off all the wastes collected?? if anyone has any idea regarding this please do reply me :) will be very grateful

In general, the waste is pulled into a holding tank under the railcar and then the maintenance crew empties it periodically at various terminals / stops along its route. A process very similar to most modern passenger jets.

that looks like a airplane toilet
@CapturingToilets
@CapturingToilets 8 лет назад
Yes, they're very similar. Most modern trains are now using vacuum toilets, which most planes adopted over the past 15 years or so.

On trains, the holding tank is directly under the toilet, so the vacuum flush doesn't last as long as on a plane where the holding tanks are all the way at the rear of the plane.

I remembered hearing somewhere that train and plane toilets are usually made by the same company who makes the trains/planes to avoid issues with part compatibility and whatnot. Not sure if this is the case though.

Sometimes I think, perhaps yes. But I'm not sure in this particular case.
