We spoke a little on IG. I’ve been following this exactly. Introduced the toe knot last night and this morning on our way to the garage, he picked up the bumper and sat down next to our fresh built table from 4 days ago!

It’s interesting in the other videos he is always trying to grab the bumpers from you add the toe hitch and “no no no”. I understand it’s something new and needs conditioning it just goes to show can’t walk and chew gum at the same time lol. By the way thanks for making my husband think I’m a dog whisperer, he is shocked at how far our puppy has come in 2 weeks!

Hi guys, love the remake of your old vids. Did I miss when you Introduce the actual verbal “fetch” command? Edit: also, I know some trainers don’t allow bumper and retrieval training (fun) during force Fetch. What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks! Glad your enjoying them. We start introducing the cue once we are seeing a consistent behavior. And we don’t do any retrieving work at all until the trained retrieve process is over.

@bryanturner683

Honestly you should watch the Trained retrieve videos by Tri Tronics trained retrieve videos done by Jim Dobbs. You are making this far more difficult and by not using the ear pinch for hold you miss out on an opportunity to help the dog understand pressure conditioning. The ear pressure makes it easier for the dog to transition to the toe hitch. You said you didnt like ear pressure because the dog wants turn toward the pressure. But then you apply toe pressure and dont give the dog the ability to move towards it. Dobbs explains this very well.

Is this something that should be used on every dog or is it mostly a corrective method for dogs that are slacking? Also, could you elaborate on why you do not like to use an e-collar for this?

this is very lazy and outdated archaic "training", 50 years at least, if a "professional" try to pull this and try to convinced that this is an appropriated way of teaching a retrieve, it is an immediate red flag, and i would be looking for a real professional right a way. My 11 month old lab has been a breeze to train in every aspect of gun dog training thus far. However once we got to the "Fetch" part of force fetch conditioning things took a turn for the worst. He freezes and turns his head away most sessions and doesn't act interested at all. The times he does open his mouth and take the object it is VERY slow and dramatized. He doesn't seem to understand the pressure on and off once the object is in his mouth. He comes from a very good breeder with natural instincts. Should I continue with just what is shown in this video until he gets it? Are there other measures I can take? We have been stuck at this point for 2 weeks, 2-3 sessions a day.
@amber-leeking1708
@amber-leeking1708 2 года назад
Your dog is being dramatic because he's afraid of encountering pain. You need to follow a better trainer that doesn't cause dogs pain in the name of "training." There are better ways to get what you want.

I've had GSPs for 20yrs. Trained all my dogs to fetch on fingersnap command, and whistle and verbal. They hold an object because I hold it at them.. remember this breed wants to work, otherwise it's forced. This just looks bizarre and TBH cruel.

Funny my labs do the same thing. I taught them through playing and after a while they just did it because it what they were bread to do and it was fun for them. Maybe this shortens the teaching cycle so from a business point of view I can see how it would work. I will be honest and say that it did take a lot of playing to get them to the point where they are now. I also understand that not everyone can dedicate the time that it takes to build the trust and bond with a dog. What many people want is a hunting dog to be used like a tool vs a partnership. I hunt to watch my dog perform I can care less if I bring food home.
@coreysumner3672
@coreysumner3672 Год назад
Every dog requires different types of training. Some dogs will fetch or retrieve. The reason force fetch is used is because some dogs just won’t hold it. When you’re hunting birds, you want that bird retrieved, dog heeled, and then you take the bird. When you run hunt tests, field trials, etc…. You need that dog to do exactly what you brought it there for

I feel like your method with the hitch is totally uncomfortable for the dog. You can see it is pulling on it and trying to get it off. I just don't think that is a good way to teach your dog to fetch. They need to enjoy it. This dog doesn't seem to do just that. Also pushing the dog with every chance you get doesn't help either. Especially when you don't use words or tell it to sit. I don't care if I'm going to get hate for this comment I just want to get my opinion on this vid.
