All aspiring trainers understand Tom Rose’s lifelong love for dogs - they are a vocation, a calling, a passion. The school he founded is the culmination of that passion, and their students and graduates share his dedication.
Over the past four decades, TRS graduated a major percentage of the foremost trainers in the world. Employers snap up at their alumni. Those who start their own businesses succeed consistently.
One very successful graduate put it this way, “There is no other school with the experience and instructional track record of TRS. There is no other school that teaches many different training techniques, then encourages the student to choose the methods most comfortable for them."
Tom authored three major dog-training books. He won training competitions time after time with dogs he raised and trained. He pioneered and developed the celebrated Puppy Imprinting Program. He coined the phrase "imprinting" as it applies to dogs. He is the first to import the Belgian Malinois breed to the United States.
Graduation from TRS depends upon successfully accomplishing industry-recognized objectives and requirements. The Tom Rose School curriculum is proven effective in meeting and exceeding those requirements.
Lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on experience guide you to accomplish objectives that would take a talented trainer ten years to learn on their own. We have hundreds of graduates to prove how effective our programs are. They operate successful companies around the world, are top-level employees, they operate/teach at other schools and win championship competitions worldwide.
When you compare TRS requirements for graduation, the qualifications and experience of the instructors, and the time established in the industry it is clear why TRS is the only choice. It’s simple: if you want to be the best, learn from the best. If you have the desire, the passion, if you believe you have what it takes, apply today.

I’m amazed at how well these dogs behaved with their age. Really shows how training makes all the difference. I didn’t even think they could do that well until they got older bc younger dogs have so much energy.

My 9 month, border collie mix, could pass everything but calmly being pet. He'll sit/stay, but it's all over once the petting is initiated. He gets so excited, he'll try to push into people and then roll over. Anyone who comes down to his level, he jumps/climbs on. I've never had a pup like people so much.

That point about pattern training, was really nice. I didn't realize there was a term for it, but I change it up on mine every time. Works great. It keeps them on task, not in a routine, no matter the command.

Hey, Nate! After going through many trainers, books, videos and techniques, i can finally say i've found what i was looking for in terms of an exemple to follow. What made me follow you in the first place was the fact that you ditched the dominance thing from the start and instead you chose to rather see obedience as a teamwork. I will bring home an American Akita pup in 3 months and i will gladly follow all your directions in trying to raise my bear pup. Thank you, brother, for everything! God bless you and your family. Hey Nate! Another great video. I've already been doing a few of these with my dog Creger. We have a neighborhood pond where people are always fishing. When Creger and I go on our walks we always greet people and he does excellent on his sit/stay. Also this last 4th he was outside with me all day and couldn't care less about the noise. He's only 4 months.

Though I've been training multiple large breeds over the past four decades, I still believe whole-heartedly in group-obedience classes, and that is what I am truly missing here in Korea. I understand they have them; however, considering they have just begun treating dogs as "pets" (and not "tools" or food in this country) within the past 10 to 15 years, I have no faith in Korean trainers since they have limited experience and many utilize mostly strong-arm training styles as we Americans did 30/40 years ago. Regardless, they are all closed down currently due to the virus. Therefore, I am tasked with training my Doberman on my own and with little assistance with many things you've done in this video which I find would be very helpful in eliminating many of my boy's misbehaviors or faults. One major issue with Guinness is his desire to meet and greet every other puppy we come across. He not aggressive, just very friendly. I've taught him to love every living creature, including humans...Hahaha! Great job, well done!

Man, I wish this video came along a few months ago! My GSD became protective a few months ago, and its been challenging to work through. He could pass trick dog no problem, but good citizen, not a chance! He's a little over a year now, so it's gonna take a lot more work breaking these "habits" he's been creating. I refuse to trezadone him up every time he needs to go to the vet, so this video will be of great help to work through this stage... Thank you!

Awesome thank you for the refresh for me, I have taken one dog through the good citizen training, she was easy, I’m going to have my work cut out for me with Cookie, she is very fearful still. I’m sure because I have been going very slow with her because of fearfulness. I hope this is not going to hinder her. I’m trying not to scare her so much . She is doing better with the leash training , except when she does get scared she fights to run back to a safe spot or to hide. 😢 I just stand still till she calms and then we go quietly back to her safe spot. I can get her to go on leash to go potty to back yard. If the outside ac fan comes on she will just look now and still does her business 😊, but when she is done she will start to run back to the door. I have to stop, and when she calms we start back to the door. She is doing well with that. If the grass is wet we stop inside the door and I dry her feet and I take her leash off and release her with break command and she goes back to her spot. She’s doing a lot better. It’s taken a week with this and she is growing so tall now. She is a labradoodle /Shepard mix and she is going to be a tall medium dog😮 black with white markings , also her coat looks like she has a white frosting , very unique than I have seen .😊

Hi Nate, I watched lesson 7 on confidence & wrote you a comment. One of the things that I mentioned in my comment was that my dog will become aTherapy Dog, once I get her & she advances in training. This vedio helped me a lot because some of the tests for my dog to receive the certification as a therapy dog you covered in thus vecio! 😎However, I still have the question about rewarding my dog without treats. I am a bit nervous about that since the ministry which will be profoming the test will not offer a pass score if they know/can tell that your dog has been treated by a reward concept. Luckily I have time to figure this out! Hopefully this pandemic will end SOON! I can't wait to get my GSD [mine will be a puppy] Another excellent vedio! I have learned a lot from you & am considering receiving training lessons with you via zoom. I am not sure if doing it tith way would be satisfying for me through, I like personal contact. Take care, Michele
@NateSchoemer
@NateSchoemer 2 года назад
Thanks! Yes, here is the response I wrote to your other questions "I don't have a video on therapy dog training, but you can learn how to train a therapy dog by going through my basic and advanced obedience series in order. I would also suggest training with treats as a reward. They can't watch you while you train, they can only test the training. No dog testing that I'm aware of allows rewards or corrections during the test. Just because you train with treats, doesn't mean your dog will always need treats or toys to perform. This is also why we use all four quadrants of operant conditioning. Check out this video to learn how to cut back on rewards: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a2OBoptftYs.html "

Another way I once trained a dog to alarm bark. I walked past the fence and had the dog be quiet. Once I touched the fence; I said bark. Thus, letting the dog know that walking by was okay. Approaching or touching the fence gave the dog permission to bark. Having two mutts is a little more difficult.

I just did this with my SDiT, Shasta. Our trainer uses the CGC to test his "Advanced Obedience" students. I'm proud to say Shasta passed, but she gave me a heart attack with "Leave It" and distractions. She LOVES food chews, and she almost failed when our trainer threw a rawhide ring on the floor! Shasta grabbed it, but then immediately gave it to me! Our trainer passed her for her prompt response.

When I pet someone's dog I always pet from the side, not on top of the head because reaching over top is threatening to a dog. It seams all CGC training and testing shows reaching over top. When someone wants to greet my dog, I ask them to pet from the side.

Hello Nate, What do you think about a prong collar for training and correction ?
@NateSchoemer
@NateSchoemer 2 года назад
Hi Ahmad! If I'm going to use correction (positive punishment) on a dog I'm training, I'll use either a martingale collar, prong collar, or a remote training collar. Just depends on the dogs correction level and if I'm training them to be off-leash trained or not. :)

Hey Nate! I am interested in moving more into AKC cgc and obedience work . I notice that the guy on the left with the Mal has a E Collar which they dont allow for obedience tests ( not sure about for CGC) can you give some info on how he will be able to test without the e collar ? I am all for e collar use where appropriate so it's not a hatred for e collars, and I am very much broadening my handling skills at this time. Thanks for becoming a channel member and supporting my work. Also, I apologize for the delayed response, as I took a few weeks off for the holidays. He's using the e-collar for training, but he won't be able to use it during any testing. This applies to the CGC and all other test requirements he has to complete at the school. Nate, I know most CGC tests won't have fireworks - that's just wrong, but what should the students have done - rather than correct which instills the fact that the dog was correct for being afraid. Also, in a class situation, I have one student whose dog will do helicopters at just the site of another dog and forget it if the dog is too close. Only 3 people/dogs in the class. Going to try ring gates so each dog has their own section to work, any other suggestions? The owner is using treats and even a clicker already. She also uses the gentle leader as the dog is a large Husky/Australian shepherd mix and the owner is in her 70s, but has done freestyle and obedience trials with other Huskies in the past. Have tried distracting and even removal or at least out of site until the dog is calm before coming back in to the class where all the fun is.

Most of the students only have the puppies wear them, so they are comfortable with the collars on, and only use it to correct dangerous or destructive behaviors. Actually, as a skeptical mal owner myself (that’s a better term than “fear”), I do not agree with getting low and in their face. Don’t force it. If a dog is iffy on people approaching, let them go on their terms and sniff the person. One step at a time. Then work up to what the first guy did. But one of the worst things is getting low and looking them straight in the eyes.

What are those different commands for the focused heel, heel and the last one
@NateSchoemer

I like to use three commands for heel. Keep in mind, you can use whatever words you like, as long as you're consistent. Heel - Focus heel With me - Walk next to me in heel position, but eye contact is not required. Let's go - Walk anywhere around me as long as there is no pulling on the leash. Cheers! She found the place where she supposed to go on her own in the morning but should I go downstairs and direct her? I didn’t use crate. just used an area where she can drink, sleep and reach the potty place. Gave her a chew toy too. What should I do? I’m a first time owner

one thing I noticed with most training videos, why do the handlers put the treat by their mouth before rewarding?
@NateSchoemer
@NateSchoemer 2 года назад
Because they think that it teaches the dog to look at their face. I personally think it’s a silly practice that is unnecessary. If we teach the dog that looking at our face predicts the marker, and the marker predicts the reward, then it doesn’t matter if you hand it to them by your side or a direct line from your face. Since they have to look at your face to cause the marker to happen. Check out my video on getting more focus from your dog to see what I mean. Cheers!

Can I ask why the prongs are so low? Also, why on such young puppies? Shouldn’t the puppies be on something as simple as a slip? I understand they will need correcting, but I was taught a puppy shouldn’t be introduced to a prong until at least 7-8 months of age. I feel a slip lead would be just as affective in such young dogs.

Did you try the jar full of coins? Normally dogs don't like loud noises. So if it associates the loud noise every time it bites, it will not do it anymore.
@bdogg20101
@bdogg20101 3 года назад
I personally use the pet corrector. All it is a can with compressed air. It's the same idea as the jar of coins. It makes a loud noise. And then the dog will eventually make the connection that they should not bite you. And if they do, then they will get a correction. Main thing is that you use your verbal correction (like the word no) before your physical correction (which is the sound of the air from the can).
@NateSchoemer
