Training M172 - M11.2 Linking Variables to Vijeo Designer from EcoStruxure Machine Expert HVAC
We can connect the Modicon M172 with Harmony HMIs programmed in Vijeo Designer or EcoStruxure Operator Terminal Expert. In this module we are going to focus only in the configuration for Vijeo Designer.
We are going to see what we need to configure on Vijeo Designer to communicate with the Modicon M172 via Modbus Serial or Modbus Tcp and how to link the variables from the PLC to the HMI.
The software EcoStruxure Machine Expert HVAC (former SoMachine HVAC) is Free, the customer needs to have an account in our License Portal in order to register it:

Very informative video. Got a Qn though. A StartPB on my HMISTU855 when linking its variable to Workbench, is it an input or output in workbench global variables? Or rather, may you please clarify the differences between: RTU_BIN_READ &. RTU_BIN_READ_OUTPUT

Hi Alo_M! I am a little bit confused with your comment. In the PLC you have all your in the status , eeprom and bios. those have a address %MW so you can use the modbus functions to read or write holding registers.

Hi there! Depend on the protocol use but if you are using ethernet then enable the block on the bios parameter and perform a full download. Remember that you can access to eeprom and status variable (also bios)

Hi thanks for the video. Unfortunately there is a problem, I have an M172.42 controller as well as an HMIGXU5512 panel. it is not possible to establish a connection either in the simulation ( ping to the controller goes ) or live , although I do exactly according to your example . I think the problem is in the settings of the 172 controller . Could you share a demo project . Thanks

Hi there! I believe the problem could be related to the ethernet port number. By default in the Modicon M172 the TCP/Ip Port number is disable (65535) so you will need to change that number to 502 (or the one defined on VJD Basic) to be able to connect to Vijeo Designer. Once you change this variable you will need to make a power cycle of the PLC. If you go to Commissioning tab then in the commissioning explorer you can find below your plc the "BIOS parameters" > "All parameter" > the folder "Ethernet" > then the variable "Port_ETH_PI" should be in there. On the Vijeo Designer I used the IEC61131 syntax + 1-based.
