What a lovely and beautiful horse she is! With an excellent temperament also! You are really really good with explaining how and what you are doing. You are my absolute favourite Mustang trainer to follow here on RU-vid! 💕

That is a smart little horse. She’s a keeper. Love that she knows to not step on the lead. Clever pony

I love how you listen to the horse especially a mustang. Some people tend to get super aggressive with mustangs because they get frustrated but you let her have rests, you see what she's sensitive to and your patient with her. You understand that she's young and doesn't know you so you let her get used to the area and yourself and I love that. You can tell Luna is going to improve so much with Camille.

Well done, young lady! I love to watch a confident, compitent trainer working with horses. I always find these very interesting, as I tend to pick up something along the way I can add to my arsenal. My method is different than yours, not necessarily better, just different. It works well for me. I do a lot more before I ever put a lead rope on. But, your way obviously works well, too. The difference might have a lot to do with my age (I am almost 60) and what was in vogue when I started learning how to work with horses nearly 50 years ago. That being said, many of the principles are the same. You establish leadership by making the horse move its feet, not letting the horse move you. You teach on both sides, because that's how a horse learns. You teach respect and personal space in a way that isn't going to scare or hurt your horse. The horse learns to trust you because you are trustworthy to them. I am of the opinion that if you follow a few guiding principles, the finer points of when or how to teach are open for debate. It depends on each horse, where they are at when you start, what are their strengths and trouble spots, and what you plan to train them for. Again, WELL DONE!

I know this is completely different but this process reminds me alot of training shelter dogs into working or sport dogs! You find the animal that meets your personal behavior and health requirements, once you find said animal you start by gaining the entirety of their trust through slow training exercises, then move into basic understanding on personal levels (personality, traits ect.), then onto basic obedience training and so on so fourth. Crazy how similar completely different animals and such can be!

This was super educational!! I'm a little newer to horses and training- I'm just a stable hand and groom, so far, but I want to learn more- and so watching this was so so SO interesting in learning how to read their body language and how to use our own human body language to communicate with them. I was also kind of a relief to see and hear you say that you were nervous when she spooked at 25:39, if that makes sense. I guess it just shows that you're still human, and you have these amazing skills, and so learning those skills isn't impossible for a rookie like me. So yeah! Thank you for making this video! It was really helpful! Watching you work is super fun too :D

You're going to have to be so careful that you don't just push on and on because she learns so easily and is clearly a talented horse. Please do make sure you still give her time to think because if things go too fast for her she might suddenly not be so willing. I bet you're quite pleased you re-drew now....!

Alyssa H I'm sure she knows what she's doing after experiencing multiple different mustangs over the years.
@ithulah
@ithulah 5 лет назад
@@May-sq8ci I'm not saying she doesn't, but when you're the one doing it it can be hard to get perspective. It's so tempting to just continue when everything is going so well! Sometimes it's the fast talented ones that you need to take the time to go slow with.
@May-sq8ci
@May-sq8ci 5 лет назад
Alyssa H actually It is more difficult to get perspective when just watching some videos that are short clips of what she does. When you're the one handling that horse everyday and learn her limits and personality than that person is going to have a way better idea of what that horse is and is not ready for.
@ithulah
@ithulah 5 лет назад
@@May-sq8ci I think you misunderstand me, I'm not saying I know of what the horse is or is not capable. Of course she knows better than me or you or anyone else who watches the videos. It just appears that the horse is pretty clever and the temptation to proceed more quickly with her than with many of her previous mustangs could be strong. Sometimes you have to temper that eagerness in the moment with the knowledge that slower is actually faster. There was no criticism intended, she may well not need it saying but I probably would. Other experienced trainers have admitted to moving too fast with talented horses and having it backfire. Shrugs, it was kindly meant.

Love your timing with the releases of pressure. So many people release too late or for too short of a time. You’re exactly right about taking pressure away as the biggest reward. So many people want to do more but actually end up putting the pressure back on when they “reward” their horses. I completely agree with you on the haltering. Great job!!!

When liberty lunging my mustang he has a rigid look to his face, looks mainly to the outside of ring and will sometimes turn, to go other way, with his butt towards me instead of facing me. He will also look at me with both eyes while lunging as if saying "can I stop now or is this right'? Wondering if I'm lunging right or he's just bored with it???

May I suggest studying Monty Roberts Join Up method... free to study here on RU-vid & he has more in depth lessons for sale. Anyway, if you join up with ur horse first, u will have their focus which means no more hips in ur face! Also, possibly, try more often to reward the face being toward u (absence of pressure). Ie: reward them for smaller increments of improvement. Horse should start to better understand ur goal of lunging & not feel the exercise is so pointless once the focus is no longer on what's outside the pen. Warwick Schiller is another fabulous trainer & his principals of training episodes are free on RU-vid too. He's currently on season 3 & has loads of great horse handling/training videos. Best of luck to u & ur horse! 😁

I love your training, it is very Monty Roberts style, and I loves him. That said, this is one way to train, and treat training is another, and just as effective. When you look at Zebra rehab training, well, you can't use pressure on pressure off training, you have to do behaviour marker training aka clicker training, aka treat training. Zebra fight lions to survive, lions primary food source is the zebra. Zebra are not as fast as gazelle, and they have had to learn to fight to survive. the lion doesn't always win. Zebra can be savage. Those gorgeous stripey coats help confuse predators but they also stupid rich parents to buy them for their daughters. Often very young, unicorn loving daughters. These Zebra often end up with temperaments that will cause them to charge any who enter their space with an intent to kill. If the zebra are lucky enough to a rehab and not a canned hunt farm, the trainer cannot get in the paddock with the zebra. The trainer starts from the other side of the fence with a hungry zebra. They will have to work to eat. Of course clickers are not actually used as behaviour markers, a word will be chosen as the marking cue, however the method will be exactly the same. Most wild animals are trained with clicker training, whales, dolphins, animals to wild to have a trainer near them are marked from outside pens and used in movies. For the toughest animals to train, behaviour marking followed by food delivery is the most effective method. These mustangs are not wild in the way a zebra is wild. I don't mean to say this to in any way denigrate what you are doing, I love it, but I also don't want you to dismiss to viewers treat training, because if you are not correctly trained in the method, you likely don't have a clear understanding of what it is about and the amazing results that come from it. You cannot put pressure on a wild killer whale to do tricks, but you can clicker train. And if you can train a wild whale, a vicious zebra, a wild bear, and in fact bears, for movies, leopards, cheetah, lions, all trained with clicker training, dismissing it for horses serves no one, because truly vicious horses, it may be the only way, as it with zebra. Cheers, and I do love what you are doing with Mustangs. I have seen Monty a few times and love him, and think there is room for more than one style of training, because horses are individuals, if your tool box for training methods is full, your horse stands a better chance, cheers #arttoride for classical foundation training, Will Faeber can't be beat!

When starting a relationship with a horse, in your initial greetings what if you made an effort to breath into their nostrils at say .... from 23:18 thru about 23:34 .... especially at 23:30. I used to breath into my horses nostrils every morning when I entered the barn and although I didn't inhail HIS breaths into me, he did inhale my breaths into him. I believe we/they exchange pheromones when horses do this with each other, so why wouldn't we exchange pheromones as well. Unfortunately I can't interpret his "scent", but fortunately (for me) he can interpet my scent. I kinda wonder if this makes any sense to other people.
