Hello, I am from Qld and I am having the exact same problem with Falcons, goshawks and harriers ATM with both my race birds and chickens sadly but luckily I've been there to scare them off but sadly they have gotten a few of my birds and I cannot get rid of them because they r native and protected so I don't know how we r gonna deal with them aye. But yeah the crested pigeon died because they have small hearts and get to frightened and then have a heart attack and die sadly we tried rescuing heaps and they end up all dieing so we just let nature take it's course. Cheers Kyle 🙂🙃
A salt gun my friend uses a high powered one shots like 50 meters it doesn’t hurt them just scares them when It hits them so you don’t get in trouble 😊 it is funny when you get a head shot it’s like a point system head shot is 50 Bodie is 25 first to 100 wins
The interference of the falcon's hunt, was not a display of wisdom. The falcon is doing what birds of prey does in nature. The wild dove flesh was wasted because of your rescue attempt: it's life a wasted sacrifice, because of your inconsiderate intrusion. The falcon is actually an aid to you. How are falcons your help? They will remove the weaker and mentally dull or slow birds, from your loft. This will leave you with best of best of your flock, to breed and develop. Let nature have it's way, you will be the benefactor.
When the balance of nature is one sided and we have too much hawks/ falcons then all other birds will suffer and before we know it song birds will get fewer and fewer. It's common sense really
Hey I've got a question, so, I have 2 female pigeons and one male that I have as pets, and the male fertilized the eggs and I've been watching them grow for 18 days now and yesterday, one started to hatch. This is my hens first time having babies. Yesterday when I noticed it was hatching, the baby was moving its head around in the egg. I put it back and this morning I checked and the mom had moved the hatching egg out of the nest, and started sitting on the infertile egg. She laid 2, and only one got fertilized. So the baby was cold and is no longer moving around. I'm afraid it's dead..I took the infertile egg out so she will focus on this egg. Now she's sitting on it and it's warm, but baby still isn't moving. Do you think it will wake back up, or is it likely dead ? 😢😢
Hard to tell try keep it warm hopefully that one can make it, are they new to raising chicks? Might take them a few turns to figure out what they need to be doing
@@ManeyPigeonsyes, me and my birds are new to this. Unfortunately, that Chick ended up passing away before it could even hatch out of the egg. I believe there was something wrong with it..but, good news, my other hen has hatched out her first baby and he seems to be doing really well and is very energetic and happy ! Her second should hatch soon too. It was a very nice surprise this morning, especially after yesterday's heartbreak. Thank you for your response ❤
If the falcons are consistent on your tosses , change the direction, the birds will still learn, gain fitness and importantly confidence. I think line of flight tossing is a myth ??? Maybe
lets face it this is not going to stop raceing pigeons are just to slow to deal with birds of pray. all your doing is breeding hawk food and sooner or later all your birds will be dead. so what can you do ? one get rid of your birds or two get rid of your racing pigeons and keep another breed that can handel birds of pray better
I feel your pain with falcons. I’ve had a Cooper’s Hawk nearly decimate my small flock of 12 birds over the winter months. Had only 3 males left. Was really irritating but I can’t bring myself to eliminate the hawk either cause I love all birds. Just got a bunch of new young birds added to my loft and am waiting a month before letting them fly. Hope that coaxes the Hawk to find somewhere else.
Hi Kurt, it’s always a tough battles with hawks! I feel your pain! Just wanted to share- I have seen flyers hang shiny objects like CDs or disco balls around their loft (something that reflects light) or use air inflatable dancing tubes to keep hawks away from their loft and has had success. It maybe worth a try 😁
HI, Kurt! I've just learned that in Australia the peregrine falcon is a resident bird of prey. It is actually a subspecies called Falco peregrinus macropus. On the other hand, here in South America we have the Falco peregrinus tundrius, which is a migrating bird from Alaska, and I've noticed that this subspecies arrives here in Brazil by the end of October/beginning of November and remains here until mid April. They never nest here; they just rest, moult and feed mainly on urban pigeons before they go back to the North hemesphere to breed .In short, we have the presence of the peregrine falcon in Brazil for half a year only. What a pity it isn't the same in your country. That would give your pigeons some time to rest and recover from being chased on a daily basis.
Are you sure it is Falcons getting them on the way home there was someone a few years back thought it was Falcons but the birds were flying low coming home and they were hitting into power lines I have even heard of pigeons hitting into fences flying low through the paddock it is always the back pigeons the front ones go up the back ones are too slow to act
The 2 injured ones have been to that spot many times as thry are the older ones so i am assuming the only reason they are injured is direct contact with the falcon or trying to get away from one
Hi Kurt I can only imagine how your feeling and it’s not good, it’s so draining on you, after all the hard work your doing to try get them into shape but I have to say there is some well bred racing pigeon’s in the loft, hopefully we’ll see you in a couple of days with an update👍, 🇮🇪DUBLIN🇮🇪
@@ManeyPigeons I know Kurt honestly, I feel your pain when it comes to the birds getting hit like that, plus you’re there everyday with the birds, see you in the next1 for an update, 🇮🇪DUBLIN🇮🇪
