Training The World Famous Singing Amazon Parrot |  

Kudos to Frank and Gina for being open to new ideas after all these years. It’s always great to learn new ways to communicate with dear friends.

I've trained horses, dogs, birds, and snakes and have discovered that the hardest part about training animals is training the people.

Great to see how much Frank and Gina want Tico to be a healthy and happy birdie. They certainly picked the right team to get them on their way. Thanks for taking us along.

Tico has just entered BirdTricks boot camp. Frank seems to be buying into the program, of proper diet & rest. I smell sweet, sweet success. I'll bet Tico will be free flying within 6 mos.

Id never heard of Tico before and I'm blown away. This bird is seriously a musician. It's like he knows what genre/mood is going on and sings in that "language". Really neat story and people. I think Gina is such a kind soul and I'd wanna be around her more than anyone, too. 😄💕

This is great. I've been watching and listening to Tico and the Man, Frank for many months now and I went through this training and diet change with Louie, my Macaw. The transition was not instant and Louie would toss the new food everywhere while he was having a tantrum. I almost gave up but I am glad I stuck with it. About a month into it, he started loving so many fresh foods, veggies fruit, grains,, occasional scrambled egg and pasta, and he is much happier and less aggressive. He used to bite me and make me bleed but after training and a new diet, and his own sleep room, he stopped biting me hard. Louie used to cling to me, like Tico does with Gina, but now he is more well-balanced and confident and trusting & respecting the entire family. Keep up with the training, diet & sleep because it will give everyone in the family a positive result. and he will be singing his heart out and enjoying life even more!

I just realised how difficult it may be for people to learn how to behave around birds as to not scare them. I've had budgies and an African Grey around me since I was born. I must have picked up what stresses them early in my life and don't have to think consciously about how to move in their presence without scaring them. Not that I don't do sometimes- I'm rather clumsy, so I sometimes drop things and get criticised harshly for that by the birds. 😂 Anyway, I knew Tico and Frank's channel before, so adorable, and was surprised to see them here. And I'm delighted to see that Frank was committed to do this for Tico's sake. It takes something to admit "alright, we've got some things to improve here", even more so when you've got a successful youtube channel running already. 🙂👍

Such a blast watching the videos of these two wonderful families together. Glad the Womachs could make the trip, just wish you were staying longer so we could watch the continued progress. I really learned a lot in this video! Important to keep aware in the moment and keep refining observations, even when you think you "already know" what is happening - and by "you", I mean " me"! The Tico and The Man videos clearly show the joy, love and respect in their extended family. They lift spirits around the world, giving of themselves as do BirdTricks. Hope Frank and Gina give us training updates, and maybe there could be a yearly BirdTricks boat ride and check-in! It’s uncanny. Now we know that T&TM can perform outside the home on cue, only if Gina is within his line of sight! Gina, take care of yourself and don’t go away, because you are the key to this musical phenomenon! You may usually be out of sight behind the camera, but everything comes to a crashing halt without you!

I’ve learned so much to here. I’ve had a grey over 20 years and you have changed her life. I have just inherited another 26 years old, very traumatic for her coming here! Owner passed away sadly. Family thought they’d cope, but they ended up unable to cope and her behaviour was very bad attacking people. With your vids and wisdom I’m gaining positive ground. She’s completely in love Witt my husband literally over the top. He’s not a parrot man so he needs training. Caught him sharing coffee with her! I know bad man. But I now have hope. I let both birds out together, they don’t get close wary because obviously they’ve not seen another parrot. But it’s so interesting seeing new one becoming happy.

That was really interesting. You take care of Tico as any good parent would. I think he knows that you care about him. By now, he has an extended family all over the world who care also.

I really enjoyed this so much. I have pet birds, and have watched the Bird tricks family for years before Tico came on you tube. I love to see how Tico interacted with everyone, especially Gina. Where she is filming it makes sense he is constantly playing up to her. I really love seeing Tico behind the scenes, and this along with bird tricks was a awesome video.

He is an incredible bird. Just like I have a dog everyone says should be a service dog. Something they are just born with and it’s a very rare characteristic

I find it sad that some people think Frank's main interest is money ... I have yet to find another channel besides "Tico and the Man" where people post zero negative comments, so why the animosity?

This is so cool! I adore Tico, and it seems like these suggestions and techniques will make him healthier, calmer, more focused and more disciplined. He is a smart lil creature. I am a dog trainer (30 years) and I know positive reinforcement very well. I make training fun. I can train without a treat because they get excited when I say “do you want to practice?” All my 8 birds turn around, most wave, they all give a paw, half go big wings. My first 5 were rescued from horrible circumstances and have baggage. The most resistant is my Quaker, but he is making small progresses.

It's so great to see so much love and companionship with a friend and his people. I love watching Tico. He really brightens my day! Tico, just keep bringing smiles to the world.

I follow Frank and Tico all the time. Big job isn’t it? It’s worth it. Tico is a beautiful bird. Quite a character. Best wishes to all.

I had an Amazon who had bonded with me, but he was certainly unpredictable! He also loved children that would come to visit, but when the children had to leave, he would be angry with me and refused to step up on my hand or go to his cage. I would usually get nailed at times like this. He never ever hurt the children. But when Amazon's do that tail fanning and eye pinning, watch out. I used to buy a product called Crazy Corn, it came in 4 varieties that you would cook and serve, and could also be frozen and thawed. Oatmeal with fresh fruit was a treat. He could say about 75 different words and phrases, sing, and whistle some songs.

Tico!!!!! ♥️ so interesting to see the training in action. My parrotlet Tuco is very upset with me during the day and won’t let me near him. Then, as soon as nightfall hits, he lets me hug and kiss and rub his head for as long as I want! Go figure??? 🤷🏻‍♀️🦜

I have a 23 yr old African Grey parrot. We make sure he gets 12+ hours of sleep. We feed him a balanced diet, if I deviate he plucks and screams. We taught him our own contact calls so he can communicate with us as a bird and not just with human language. He's a sweet bird and blows me kisses when I tell him I love him. Greys are alot different than Amazons.

I don’t think he likes the click noise! Neither do I! Try a different softer sound please! He is a musician with highly sensitive hearing guys! js perhaps a soft tuned noise is better. I’m a musician/vocalist from a musical family and a successful Clinician so I get the behavioral management but you must also recognize the hearing sensitivities of our Star boy! Thanks.

Frank and Gina are very cool people and it was nice to see that Frank is ready, willing, and able, to make the right changes to make life better for Tico and the entire family. Animals are amazing, when given the right amount of love and training they're never too old to be trained. Tico seems to want to learn and its a new thing for him but he is obviously very smart. Loved seeing this. Clicker training is awesome too, I have used this method on my two older dogs when they were young.

His eyes were pinning when Gina did it. You should teach him "touch" with the stick. I taught my bird to touch my finger with his claw when I said touch....and didn't give him anything but praise.

Tico seems to be a natural talent that imho doesn't really need training to develop. Over time his repertoire has steadily expanded.
