Starting to plan my next trip, if you would like to help make this happen, you can support at patreon.com/monkeystealspeach . Aside from that, have you checked out my latest tutorial yet? If you want to learn the classic Mantis Fist form White Ape Steals Peach, you can check it out at vimeo.com/ondemand/toutao

Very cool video! My sensei in Seido Karate (as well as internal Gong Fu) is a 4th degree black belt under Shuseki Shihan William Oliver whom I never met... Always wanted to meet others from GM Oyama's heritage... It is always interesting to see the splitting of a heritage and how they branched out... Would love to learn more about Shidokan.. One interesting aspect is the breathing I heard.. similar to Seido and would love to learn more about their breathing techniques compared to Seido and Kyokushin... Thanks for all these great videos!

Soeno's style looks like it oscillates between hard and soft, like Shaolin. (Just read that Soeno's first Karate teacher was a Mas Oyama (born Choi Yeong-eui) and his art began with an 18 lohan fist / southern Chinese Kempo taught by a Mr Yi in South Korea)
@EzeHSK
@EzeHSK Год назад
Actually Mas Oyama studied Goju Ryu, that's where the hard/soft thing comes from in Kyokushin and probably Shidokan
@jassimarsingh6505
@jassimarsingh6505 Год назад
@@EzeHSK all karate originated from southern shaolin kung fu
@EzeHSK
@EzeHSK Год назад
@@jassimarsingh6505 That's a bit of an overstatement. Oknawan Karate is strongly related to Southern Chinese kung fu (there's even a series about it in this same channel). But it's become its own thing with time. Even their training methods are not exactly the same. So saying Kyokushin's softness comes from Chinese influence is like saying something in French comes from the Greek language ignoring that Latin is in the middle.

Is there a source that I can see because it is very interesting to know Mas Oyama studied Kempo.

I find it crazy that this eclectic branch of full contact Karate is not well known in MMA fanbase. This is like Kyokushin Karate on steroids imo. Just watch their "Triathlon of Martial Arts" tournaments for examples.

Just a fun tidbit about Mr. Soeno - he was one of the main inspirations for the character Ryu from Street Fighter. His appearance in earlier entries is nearly identical to pictures of Soeno in his younger years around the 70s and 80s, into the 90s.
@MonkeyStealsPeach
@MonkeyStealsPeach Год назад
Is that for real? If it is then that’s awesome
@ThePsychoguy
@ThePsychoguy Год назад
@@MonkeyStealsPeach Yes it’s completely for real. Look at photos of Mr. Soeno from his younger competitive years, compare to Ryu’s character selection pic in SF2 The World Warrior. He and Oyama together were the base for his character - Oyama for his eccentric personality, and Soeno for his actual martial arts history. The first SF game was Ryu challenging the world until he eventually fought Sagat in Thailand. This was a direct nod to Soeno’s campaign to fight the Thais back in the 70s (Takashi Nishiyama, the creator of SF and several other fighting game franchises, was an avid martial artist who often used real history and fighters as inspiration).

Samurai rules 🤣 what a clown pardon my french😅 The Koryu aka bujutsu still alive even after government try to erase old traditions and samurai class. Daito Ryu, Jiu-jitsu and Kobudo still alive. Its a shame that fake styles aka combat sport what people see as martial arts in modern world.

That "clown" is a descendant of Samurai and he fought against Muay Thai fighters in Thailand since 1970s. You think Shidokan is a fake style? Go to online search and look for a news article called Stage 4 Cancer Surviving Restaurateur Uses Martial Arts Agaisnt Thief Who Stole Patron's I Phone. There is the proof.

It’s called evolving martial arts..the dumbest thing u can do in martial arts is stay”traditional “😂😂
@blockmasterscott
@blockmasterscott Год назад
@@AyeJordan7 Very true. My Choy Li Fut master is traditional as you can be, and even he has tweaked the training to fit modern times, for example, he now incorporates ground fighting in the training. And he uses gloves, head gear and chest padding for sparring. And when you think about it, fighting styles have always evolved to fit the times. For example, Gichin Funakoshi tweaked Okinawan Karate to fit in mainland Japanese universities in the the 1920s. It's nothing new.
@AyeJordan7
@AyeJordan7 Год назад
@@blockmasterscott yes but it’s important to also pressure test when u turn to,Gichin Funakashi did turn karate but he also damaged it,.bc before that karate had a lot of grappling which was called tegumi,and Toutie ,full contact sparring called Bogu sparring,karate was more complete back then,plus back then the realistic application of kata came first,then they taught u the kata,it’s important that if we modernize any art we need to make sure it’ll work and it’s effective.what he did destroyed karate,the effective training methods,and realistic grappling applications,this is why another karate master Kenwa Mabuni said”the karate that has spread to Tokyo is incomplete,those that think grappling is only apart of judo and jiu jitsu and not in karate have failed to grasp the complete art”.
