Training young Sighthounds 

I wouldn't bother getting a grey hound as they're as thick as two short planks of wood, fast but ridiculously stupid. That stupid they've been known to kill themselves whilst out by running into trees n things. Best bet Us a lurcher, such was the stupidity of grey hounds they bred some collie, bull and other breeds into them to make the lurcher, very similar dig but more intelligent

We are finding this with our Foster lurcher too, I'm wondering how we progress off treats because as soon as no treats are presented he will then ignore after following even after praise 🙈

Try to reward her instantly when she catches scent or sight. After a while she'll make the connection to give you attention, when she detects anything. So you'll have enough time to take her attention away from the game, call her to you or put her on leash. Basically you're teaching her to point out instead to run after the game.

the dog is waiting for your approval/signal. The focus is all on you, which is kinda essential training for all dogs, but most importantly sighthounds (i assume)

I think it's because you need the dog focused on you. If he is looking at you, that means the dog isn't going to be distracted etc

+oleander3388 You don't want to try to train more than two or three skills a day. And keep the training sessions spread out and short. Under fifteen minutes, ideally, but even shorter if the dog loses interest. You can't to keep them interesting and fun. And for some skills (like sit), you can expect your dog to at least get the basics down in the first session or the second. But it still takes several sessions and repeated practice to really get it down. And some skills (recall and stay) often take a little longer, as they require more self-restraint on the dog's part. Also, a good tip is to never repeat the command more than once. Don't start giving the command and expecting the dog to respond to soon. Make sure the dog is about to do the behavior before giving the command. You may accidentally end up teaching your dog to wait until you say it multiple times or even to not pay attention to the command at all. Keep it happy. Keep it fun. If you get frustrated, take a break. Also, keep in mind that sighthounds should NEVER be trusted in an un-enclosed area off-leash. No matter how good you think their recall is. The urge to chase small animals (and sometimes larger animals/people/blowing trash) has been bred into them over hundreds of years. If you're out at a large park, I recommend a fifty foot lead. They're also handy for training if you don't have an enclosed area to do it in. =)

the smaller collar is just for identification the bigger one is here to attach the leash for walks.

Yes, to shape the behavior and later on sparse the time the dog gets the treat, eventually only the praise, eventually nothing. Also, some "tricks" in this video is more about desensibilization towards an action (eg. grab collar, sudden stop) than doing some trick.

@@alexandrenerym couldn't be arsed with it all me. My dogs behave perfectly well without me stuffing a load of behavioural brides at them.
