Something a little different than the usual sees many different trains, both passenger and freight traveling along the tracks around Ballarat.
All the videos go to the credit of John Wilson, who I'm very fortunate to have had his videos passed on to me.

Awesome video. The auto exchange sequence at 8:54 is probably the best quality in existence for either NSWGR or VR.

Classic footage from a great era, so much has changed since 1985 and it wasn't that long ago! The audio is quite decent for its time, John must have been using good equipment.

@@krdcountrytv Yea, he certainly knew and had a good collection of cameras and gear to choose from. All of his photos/videos are evident of that

You have to wonder what the state government was thinking when they privatised the railways. How many jobs went. Yes l am an exrailway worker, 1979 to 1989, good times back then. Keep on showing these types of videos much appreciated!!!

What was the government thinking when they privatised the railways? Money and short term political goals. They don't think about anything else.

They were thinking how much money in kickbacks they will receive

Thanks. I live in ballarat, its different now. Theres not much freight activity these days. Only Pacific national passing through with grain trains bound for geelong.

Smashing video and great audio, especially the two "S" class on the grain job, surprised to see so many four wheel wagons still operating in 1985 too. Were they locust swarming in the S306 entering the yard scene? Very enjoyable video, thank you.

Great coverage. Do you know what were the other locations apart from Ballarat and Warrenheip?

I love these SAR/ANR CL class locos. I believe these were the locomotives which hauled the Overland in the 1960s and one of them was called 'Lady Norrie'?

Definitely Warrenheip. First time I have seen a helper engine on the back of a train to get up Warrenheip bank.
@TheLoneRailrider

Bill Richardson it was quite often back then. Usually a X class would be used as a banker to help the train up out of Ballarat.

Whoa, thanks for posting! When it comes the 1980's this is the rarest footage I've seen, along with videos from: Don Moyses ru-vid.comvideos Denys Potts ru-vid.comvideos Any more info on the videographer? (Would have been an early adopter of video recording) Any other footage from this era? I have actually seen these clips as part of a VHS tape purchased years ago titled "Svensons... (something)" Do you know more about that by any chance?

Mate, I have boxes of DVD's im exporting onto my pc. There are hours upon hours of my grandfather's videos and I'm uploading it here every week on Friday. So yes i have plenty. As for that video in particular, I'm not honestly all that sure, but even so; the videos i upload aren't for the purpose of making money. I just do it to share the railways to the world through my eyes and my grandfather's.
