Seeing the sprinters like the 150s, 153s, 155s, 156s and 158s remind me of being up north and I love bring up there I also like the sounds of all of them as well.
I've changed there back in February 2022 from Stevenage to get to Nottingham during the storm. I like this station lots of good links to Lincoln the seasides and the East Midlands and the North West and East.
Our 158s are the best in service (although GWR and SWR may come close), lots of leg room, big comfortable seats and USB power sockets for charging a mobile device. While they do lack wifi and plug sockets I hope that'll be fixed with an eventual refurbishment like the 170s are having. Great video.
I remember back in the 50s Trainspotting at Grantham and Mallard often sitting at top of the station also going to Peterboro on the straight from here with cinders burning your eyes as you hung out of the door at close too 100mph.....
Grantham hasn’t changed much. Plus people say that Grantham is in Nottinghamshire whilst it’s not. Grantham is literally in Lincolnshire but not too far from Nottingham. And will platform 3 be used again for East Midlands Railway to operate the local service to Nottingham and Lincoln.
hi great vid as per usual...first time in a while i have comment on your vid....question for you ....why does a 5 car azuma stop at the far end of the platform when the exit is the other end ...as passengers were walking down the platform to exit...surely they can stop the part of the platform where the exit is ...mmm
Thanks very much, LNER was definitely the flavour of the day that's for sure haha, I don't think the bay platform is in use anymore. That might change when trains start running back to their pre pandemic timetable, but time will tell.
Thanks very much I'm glad you enjoyed watching this. Grantham is a great station to come to that's for sure. Seeing the 225 set was certainly the highlight for me :)
I did find it slightly odd that they stopped that service right at the top end of the platform when it would have made much more sense to have had it stop in the middle of the platform
That was fun! And the big payoff for me was at 23:23: the 225 set, looking as magisterial as ever. (Though one might also say that about Grand Central's livery.) Thanks as always, good sir.
why do EMR only put a 158 on the Norwich - Liverpool run? they used to put a HST on for Norwich to London yet the trip to Lime street via major cities like Nottingham, Sheffield,Manchester is much longer, isn't there a bar or dining car facility on board. is this a big North South divide again or do they put better trains on to impress London. makes me not want to do EMR.
I don't think it's in use at the moment because of the frequency of services as things currently stand. I think once the trains start running to their pre pandemic timetable you could start seeing trains going to and from Skegness using that platform to give way to the Liverpool/Norwich services
It's not the easiest thing to do when you've got several different things going off at the same time at certain stations haha, I'm glad you enjoyed watching this
Great video mate. Grantham is a good station yeah no freight train show up which is sad to see. I thought you're doing trains at London Kings Cross on the ECML.
thanks very much, I'm glad you enjoyed watching this. Grantham is a great station to go to. This section of the ECML does have very little freight at the best of times unfortunately. The London Kings Cross film was a rush hour film which I do separately from my normal films
Go to 10:19 and turn on captions, it will say East Spuds Railway 🤣 Edit: also at 11:48 the captions says Liverpool Live Streams instead of Liverpool Lime Street
