I reckon they could have A Portrush - Lisburn service, Increasing frequency between coleraine and antrim. Also would be a handy interchange from the PD line to the Derry line without passing through belfast. Also if enterprises stopped at lisburn on all days not just sunday then that could be really beneficial for the line. However i dont know where they will get the rolling stock for the line though.
If it gets reopned you need stormont to be up and running and then that's the money situation sorted out then we need translink to order in around 5 to 10 new trains and that isn't that hard to do beacuse the track was recently relayed and the local community's can work together along with translink to fix the train stations up
Odhran is right Billy the cost of rebuilding the stations , Relaying 18 miles of track & reinstating signalling on the branch is likely to be too high. Sadly the chances of the line reopening any time in say the next 5 to 10 years is basically 0 out of 10 and as well as all the track , signalling & rebuilding work NIR would also need some more trains that would be able to cover the branch service as NIR are currently getting maximum use of their 43 Caf DMU's
Any money translink get for the railway will likely be used to order in more rolling stock and to help keep existing services running. Plus any plans to reopen the Antrim branch would need to go through government and that's were any money for the required work on the branch will come from.
The people that run our railways here in Northern Ireland just haven't a clue just like the ones that sit in our government haven't a brain between them.
