@@Jackmc2007 Yeah I heard about that - redoing the traction for 100mph or something right? Personally I really like the 458s. I’d have kept them as they are. The fleet size is being cut too :(
yep. Should just be 458501 - 531 staying. The ex460 coach will be removed. 532 - 536 are fully rebuilt 460s so they won’t be able to be converted to 100mph operation. Hopefully they will be moved somewhere else though
442's used to operate all the time down here when they first started back in 1988 in NSE days. It was a few years after that they were moved to the Waterloo - Portsmouth line by SWT and we got the slamdoor stock.
@@Jackmc2007 I thought it was 6 that got converted from 460s? I read somewhere they are only retaining 28 - which is odd as the original fleet was 30 units. So this would leave 8 units (and a further 28 coaches removed to turn them back to 4 car). Problem is(or at least as I see it) that leaves just 8 trains - not enough to form a fleet for another operator (unless they have the other 4 cab units from the 460s in storage I guess) but either way - the future is grim for the 8 units SWR aren’t keeping on.
