A very enjoyable hours session spent at Raynes Park railway station on the South Western Mainline where we see plenty of services from South Western Railway.
Raynes Park was opened by the London and South Western Railway in 1871 so it was one of the later stations to have been opened by the company. Raynes Park has a fantastic layout and serves as a junction station serving the South Western Mainline and the Motspur Branch line which sees trains running to Chessington South, Guildford and Dorking. I love the layout of this station it just naturally lends itself to some amazing views.
One of the best and most notable features of this station is the long footbridge connecting the two platforms, the footbridge is angled because of the way that the platforms have been built, an offset feature if you will, there was once a LSWR signal box located at the far South end of the platform but this was eventually closed down and replaced by a more modern counterpart. Between platforms 3 and 4 there a small notch which at one stage gave access to a decent sized goods yard, although the Epsom line couldn't access the yard. Any existence of the yard has long since gone and is now completely covered by various manufacturing firms.
Last year the station handled roughly 4.1 million passengers.
