Upload 2 of the year goes back to August when I went on a family holiday to the Scarborough area. Here are some of the highlights from the 5 main days i had available for spotting, while fulfilling family activities. I wanted to visit a much of the area as I could.
Obviously this is far from my normal hunting ground of Bath/Bristol and it made a startling change to stand on a station with sheep grazing right next to you (at Nafferton).
The amazing class 68s operated by Trans Pennine Express services feature on what was at the time driver/route learning with the new Mark 5A coaches which have been slowly delivered over 2019.This was a heavily delayed introduction for theses services, not starting until September 2019, a few weeks later.
A few of these workings are seen at Scarborough, which in itself is a beautiful area to walk around, with plenty of shops near the station.
It is a short walk to a nearby Victorian Cliff Tramway which takes you from the main high street to the seaside itself in 2 wonderfully restored carriages - Definitely worth a ride.
The other major company operating in the area is Northern and on a shortish visit to the main Terminus station of Hull, plenty of their units can be seen going in and out along with Hull Trains express services to London Kings Cross. At the time, GWR were supplying a short formed HST to cover the unavailability of units for Hull trains - This has now ceased due to the introduction of new units.
Finally, the main attraction at Scarborough was the weekly Scarborough Spa express railtour, which is diesel hauled from Carnforth - York and then to Scarborough by a steam engine. On this occasion, it was 35018 "British India Line" which has returned to the UK following an extensive overhaul and testing regime. It had alluded me for several months after its return spending much time in the North until my visit.
