In August of 1993, I spent a week railfanning in and around Chicago with Todd Feldpausch.

In the afternoon on the second day we headed to the former Rock Island tracks south of Chicago.
1. A southbound Metra train stops at 99th st on the suburban branch in the Beverly Hills neighborhood of Chicago.
2. A pair of southbound Metra trains stopping at the 107th st station on the suburban branch.
In the suburb of Blue Island, the Rock Island suburban branch rejoins the main line near the depot, and the end of the IC branch can be seen a block away.
3. A pair of commuter trains sit at the Rock Island station, as a Metra Electric train arrives at the old IC station.
4. A Metra train heads south on the RI and under the Western Ave bridge.
5. A pair of Metra commuters head north as a third arrives southbound.
6. A pair of Metra trains back north past the station and into the nearby storage yard.
7. A pair of Metras arrive at the Blue Island station.
8. As the mainline train continues south, a Metra switcher heads past.
9. After crossing over to the next track, the switcher heads over to the IC yard.
10. The switcher crew picks up a pair of the ICG highliners and heads north up the Rock Island.
11. A southbound Metra stops at Prairie st, the station along side the former Rock Island yard.
South of the River is busy Blue Island Junction where several freight lines cross, with the former Rock Island tracks passing overhead on a bridge.
12. A northbound CNW freight passes the crossing gate tower at Broadway st.
13. A southbound Metra on the Rock Island.
14. Another CNW train heads north meeting an Indiana Harbor Belt southbound.
15. A Soo Line freight heads south.
16. A northbound Metra passes on the Rock Island bridge.
17. A set of CSX power heads south.
18. A northbound CSX freight passes.
We ended the day catching a few L and commuter trains on our way back to the Northwest suburbs.
19. A northbound CTA train on the Dan Ryan Expressway near 61st st.
20. A southbound Metra on the CNW near Irving Park.
21. A northbound CTA on the Kennedy expressway.
