Brilliant! I was cycling around there today, wondering where Ripon station was - cycled past the car wash etc that's now there without realising. I was also noticing the beautiful stonework if the 2 railway bridges on the way to Bishop Monkton. Such a shame!
I could just see the bridge and trains from my bedroom window when there were no leaves on the trees. I'm still angry they shut this line and transport connections to Ripon are still dreadful.
Write to your Tory MP. Accordingly it is classed as a deprived area and will receive ample funding, as opposed to inner city Leeds which is pretty much “ deprived” and will receive nothing. PS I know Ripon very well. Lovely place , but to be classed as deprived by the corrupt Conservatives Government is just plain abhorrent Sorry rant over.
The decision to close this line was one of the worst examples of self-harm carried out as a consequence of the cuts. I recall as a child in the 1970s on our regular car journeys via the A61 to see my grandparents, I would trace the railway line from Killinghall, then Wormald Green, through Ripon and then north past Hutton Conyers. My recollection was that the trackbed lay largely intact for many years, but as soon as the main bridges along the route including the metal bridge over the River Ure were dismantled, I knew even then that any possibility of ever reopening the line was dashed forever.
