Nicely constructed and lovely to see your son with you. I didn’t see a pack on you or son to the stone ruins, when you do side trips do you not take kit to sustain your party if something goes wrong? If you watch my latest release, you’ll see how important having all the appropriate gear on you is for even side trips, it can be a life saver. 🙏
Hi Dave, yep always take emergency supplies. For nice short trips like stone huts where we had a whole day of fine weather ahead and it was just 45 mins each way, I took a basic set up of plb, first aid kit, emergency blanket, fire lighters and some muesli bars. I make little plastic resealable bag pocket packs of what I need for the trip so it all fits in pockets. Swanni pockets are ideal I find! If it was a longer or more involved trip or if there was no obvious water around, I’d take a small pack about the size of a school bag. Kev and I have been caught out badly once with poor equipment/planning before so tend to take no chances these days. Nice work on your new vid. Waterfall looked amazing 🤩
@@samandkevsoutdooradventures fantastic, look, I’m personally trying to get the message of carrying the gear you mentioned on all day hikes & therefore I take the opportunity as an influencer to inform my viewers just that. You guys are doing so well, pity I didn’t think to reach out to you when in Nelson recently 👍
Hi. Id like to bike the trail to Devils Creek Hut from the carpark at the end of the Wakamarina Road, what condition was the track in? How long do you think this would take without the Doom Track detour? Thanks. Looks like an awesome spot.
The main track (excluding the Doom track) was relatively wide and smoothish for the most part. Depends on ability and pace but I’d say it would take approx 1 hr to reach the hut. It’s a bit of a guess and there may be the odd section where you need to walk to cross a side stream or steeper area but on the whole it wasn’t too crazy or anything like that. Hopefully the track is nice and dry after the recent rain too. Hope you have a safe and enjoyable ride!
