The last full year of conductors and non modified Ws. The classic Melbourne was all coming to an end very quick after this video

11:40 - Royal Domain Tower under construction (42 storeys tall), was/is still the tallest building on St. Kilda Road.

Wow, I was doing my school work experience at Preston Workshops that week, the best job was doing workshop to depot transfers, helping to change poles and points ect

By the way, the rainy day/night at the end (36:22 onwards) looks like late 2000 or 2001, not 1997. We see a VX Commodore, Toyota Echo, Hyundai Elantra, and 2nd generation Subaru Impreza - all of these vehicles were released in the year 2000.

My next trip to Melbourne wasn't until 2003. That's a two hour video not uploaded That is a blitz of routes 48 & 109. It's possible some filmy got mixed

Wish I lived to see The Met livery on trams other than the Ws. But at least the liveries are being standardised again. Beats the identity crisis era of the 2000s any day.

Met colours were great . Now you can have any colour as long as it’s white .
