been debating whether i wanted to go back to northern Michigan or not....moved to Nashville to get away from the cold, ice & snow...body doesn't handle the cold as well as it used to...after watching you guys freeze i think i've decided i'll stay where the winters are mild....so many memories of running the roof in a blizzard...yuk...great job you guys...hats off to you.

Hell of a job, reminds me of york heat exchangers. You have to take the whole damn thing apart. Never fun but you got it in👊💪

Reminds me of doing a hx on Carrier TFE. Had to take all the wiring off of the compressors, condenser fan motors and all heating parts just so you can slide it out of the front. Pretty much have to disassemble the whole thing and always it's on the coldest day.

Never understood the forced air burner and heat exchanger configuration on the Voyager,seems like a inefficient as hell design. Can you give any intel? Lol. Good video.

Working on metal in winter is never fun. I helped construct a substation out on the windy prairie where some days were -25degF actual temp. We didn't have the wind chill concept back then. A lot of out of the truck and back in the truck.

I noticed they knew of a potential weakness so they added a support too the upper heat tubes so apparently with heat cycles it must dip down a weaken a weld or tubes move due to second stage maybe but the support wasn't there on the old heat exchanger

It would have been nice to use the crane to remove the old one & put the new one in place if things were easy.

Very good work, they make it look very easy. Can you give me a link where I can buy a heat exchanger like the one I install? we have a Trane Voyager unit exactly like the one in the video, also with the same problem and we need to buy the replacement part. Thank you very much and again congratulations for that great job.

I don't get it. The crane, man power, and time are the same as putting a new unit on the roof. Somebody didn't persuade the property owner enough towards his own good.
@craighvac1808
@craighvac1808 3 года назад
That Rtu new is probably 10 times the price of the heat exchanger..
@marriagepartnersministry5942
@marriagepartnersministry5942 3 года назад
@@craighvac1808 correct! The client spent all that money and they still have a unit that's at the very end of its useful service life. When a compressor goes out next summer and it costs another 8 grand to change it out the client is going to feel sick and say you mean I spent all that money for nothing (I've heard this more than once in the early days of my career). This client could have spent an additional $9k and had a brand new, efficient, warranty, and 20 years of expected service life. All I'm saying is us experts have to make the realities of old equipment so clear that clients understand that they're about to make a gamble in which the odds are against them. I ask my clients "since the RTU is at the end of its life its not crazy to ask if the compressor goes out this summer would that effect today's decision." Once the client realizes that the 2 repairs will equally or exceed the price of a new unit and they put themselves in tomorrow's shoes then the client will usually overturn every stone to get the new unit.
@craighvac1808
@craighvac1808 3 года назад
@@marriagepartnersministry5942 I can see your point and would probably agree with you in most circumstances. But this unit is from 2007 for one, which is fairly old yes, but still could have lots of life left. Maybe compressors have already been changed? There are a lot of variables as to what the condition of the entire unit is in. This is a 20 ton rtu, no chance the price of the unit would only cost 9k more than this repair and even include a compressor next summer.
