I think I can say that I've never seen a journalistic style such as Hailey's before and it's so lovely to see. It's fantastic to see a journalist that is so respectful and also loving towards the people she interviews. The world definitely needs more Haileys!
I am so enthralled and seriously awed and impressed by Hailey's journalistic skill!!!The world and this time needs more real journalist like Ms Hailey, I will gladly pay to support this woman's work, insight and beautiful heart.
I'm trans in the USA. I'm a USAF veteran with education and struggle to find work. Interestingly, is that the same men who vote against ppl like me are the same ones who offer money to sleep with them. I wish equality for trans ppl everywhere. ❤
I feel like really gives a good overview of the situation, and really how difficult it can be for people stuck in the beauty industry, especially trans women. I pray that all these women will grow to be more accepted under the law and society. In the US these struggles are also commonplace. I hope somewhere will lead the way for trans rights socially and legally
My wife is a Thai trans woman. We've been waiting over a decade to legally marry in Thailand. We are legally married in the US. It's a slow process and the Thai government is really dysfunctional so all manner of needed reforms just aren't happening. Here's to hoping in a few years things will improve. Know hope.
Not necessarily stuck in the beauty industry. It’s big in Thailand and many other Asian countries where trans women have no choice to resort to sex trade. For them to have a career in beauty modeling or anything for that matter would be better than that. Unfortunately they are still not treated fairly and the same.
@@exnihilo415 I don’t know if this is the right place to a dress this subject, but I would like to culture myself about trans people in Thailand and Philippines. Why they have so many trans. Is it a survival thing, escaping poverty; it’s a high born rate or something else? I apologizes for my writing, English is not my first language.
❤ host / producer Hailey Gates is so enjoyable to watch. She is intelligent, witty, adventurous, and respectable as she navigates scenarios and cultural encounters, and her journalistic point of investigation and inquiry is revealing and informative (as i have seen in other shows as well). Also, she is a full on cutie with beautiful striking features :)
A truly lovely and quite touching video; *Hailey* is absolutely marvellous and all these trans women are as well : so very brilliantly well done, **Hailey* and *Refinery29** 💖✨💖✨💖
This is such a touching video, I literally cried ❤ And subscribed. This is an amazing example of reporting. Such great handling of a sensitive situation! Truly professional
Thank you for the interesting content for letting the world understanding the Thai Transgender. I miss the 2016 moment when our beloved King Rama the 9th died. Great editing and nice Thai music.
Son mujeres tan lindas.. lástima que la sociedad se crea Juez divino para decir quién es válida y quién no. La naturaleza es virtuosa y diversa. Soy prueba de ello. Saludos desde México.
Its so weird to see a whole country genuinely mourning to the point that everything is black to convey grief. No one seems to be complaining! I don't mean it as bad way, but its just different how there are countries that genuinely respect their government leaders you never really see that often.
The ending was the best... "So you pray for the bad things to like, you throw it away.." and then the interviewer says, "Like Trump!" 😂 Here it is now 2024 and we still are trying to throw him away! Lol
Yeah, it's rustic but he's a very good surgeon and his prices are low allowing many poor trans women to transition beautifully. My Thai trans wife had her breasts done there.
@@exnihilo415yes, things look different but that doesn't mean it's not good treatment. A very different mentality in western countries than the rest of the world, like solitary rooms in recovery instead of being all together. I'm glad to hear of a personal story about this office.
@@SpectrumOfChange Honestly, Dr. Thep at Poly Clinic is quite an outlier in Thailand. Almost all the other transgender clinics in Thailand are at western standard in terms of rooms and private accommodations with higher prices to match, of course. Kamol Cosmetic Hospital, Suporn, etc. The reason my girl went to Dr. Thep is that he's just really amazing at breast surgery. You want to get it right the first time and breasts are notoriously difficult to correct later on to make them even. I have literally known girls who had work done in Beverly Hills and then revisions and it still wasn't right. She went to Dr. Thep and he sorted it out. He's just an amazing surgeon.
Oh yes, so do i ; she is absolutely marvellous and i truly do adore her: her sensitivity, sincerity, compassion, kindness, loveliness, intelligence and wisdom 💖....
This is so unique. The people of Thailand genuinely mourning a leader not forced having their own emotions and memories through the generations, it’s an exchange of respect. We should take notes.
Wellllllll we kinda have a pretty good PR team for the monarchy. The royals here are just as ba everywhere and our corruption is pretty bad too. It's all smoke and mirrors.
Haily trying to walk like a boy had me laughing so hard . She's so goofy and i love it . Btw i just found your channel and already wstched like 3 or for episodes 😅
The grooming begins young for some to convert/ change genders in hopes to bring money to their family, and thus trauma and other crimes are committed towards them from childhood due to greed and lack of morals and values of human respect
What stuck out to me the most is 33:07 when the doctor or what ever he is said" We don't like the patience taking of their shoes 🥺👀 I mean wtf, why? And his answer was a load of rubbish!!! Please be careful,if you are getting surgery ,so many botched people with horrific stories. Bangkok has some of the most beautiful gorgeous Lady boys,in my opinion.❤
Well done. Thailand is a very inward corrupted place. You got close as you can. I am former Singha beer importer in Japan and had to go through many culture shocks. You have to speak Thai and have footing there to understand the inner circles of the country.
🤣🤣🙌🏾 The cheap, careless and crazy Thai doctor, this is the second documentary I have seen him in. He is carelessly hilarious. He should definitely have his own (loosely inspired) tv show.😜

South east asians, before the coming of middle east religions, have very fluid perception of gender. But even after Christianity and Islam came to the region the tradition is still not totally lost. For Thailand, who was never invaded with foreign religion, the cultural perception still permeate the country.
@@Tchokwe they're saying that because of more acceptance, trans and gay people find it easier to exist openly there than in other countries that are more conservative, leading to a higher recorded rate of openly trans people

The doctor answered the questions. It's not that there is more it's more accepting. If other countries were to be more accepting not as many people would be closeted. Not saying it's anymore accepting in Thailand; wish they'd be able to change their gender markers on legal docs
6.5 BILLION!?!? Omg. I have so many questions, is this from mostly foreigners? What is the percentage of citizens that contribute? I just wonder cause if its a lot of citizens that support that industry yet dont want to allow equality, I would be raising hell as these women.
Will they include in the book how awful the king was? I can't understand people... he was a terrible person not only to his people but to his wives and multiple columbines. Thailand should be celebrating for a year and not mourning.
It was interesting to see the diversity of gay life in Thailand. It was a well presented documentary, but it was tainted at the end with a political slur. Unfortunately, people have become more and more indoctrinated in the US. Perhaps that's one reason the phrase "Ugly American" became popular.
World was normal when humans were still living in caves and hunting each other for food. Cannibalism. It became abnormal and unnatural when humans acted less and less like animals, like starting to farm and building things. From point of the mother earth we are already abnormal animals.
The us can learn something from their trans and Apple's agency. The fact of not being represented as a woman but as who they are, transgender, being so meaningful to them speaks volumes about what is happening here. Be proud of who you are, dont try to be someone you arnt. As a woman thats my biggest issue with the trans here, otherwise i wouldnt care. I just dont see my being as something that they can impersonate. But they want to overtake what being a woman is instead of standing in their own identity. I think it's insecurity based, otherwise why diamantel women and over take the word and everything its comprised of. Imo they can be there own beings. Be proud of their journey just dont down play others. You dont find equality and acceptance by impersonating another. You find it by being true to yourself and respectful to society. It shouldn't overshadow women it should be in line with. We are uniquely different and that is a beautiful thing. If more transwomen here learned to respect the people they are idolizing they wouldnt have so much backlash, but when you can't respect the work and lives off the women you base yourself off of while using their identity to validate yourself there's really nothing left to talk about.
