Almost 3 years later and a lot people still don’t know what was lost when Prince left us. Sometimes he came off as being cocky and a bit arrogant because he knew nobody could touch him in regards to talent. It is what it is. His name is Prince but he is undisputed and King of music. Rest in purple Mr. Nelson u did all u came 2 do
One unfortunate thing I’m finding is that people who aren’t aware of Prince’s vast talent kind of view the purple army as a little off. Some just do not get it. We have to gently enlighten them to the reality of what Prince was verses the image they have stuck in their minds of a guy who they thought was a little out there. They don’t realize all that is involved with the world of Prince and have a somewhat jaded view that needs altering....by US. Prince’s legacy should be bigger than Elvis’ and Elvis’ following is still going pretty strong.

Even although he's so widely recognised and highly regarded, I think he's still underestimated as a guitarist. The instrument is an extension of his body and he expresses himself with complete freedom on it. Only the very greatest instrumentalists, with supreme technical ability, can do this. The gift of people like this is that they make it look effortless. Think Oscar Peterson as another example.
Lets not forget he would go to the studio, lay down the drum and bass himself, then do the guitar and finally the lyrics and it would fit perfectly on top of each other without editing,,,this dewd was genius!!!

When he plays “sometimes it snows in April” it gets me every time. I truly wish there was a full acoustic version on the web. Prince was without a doubt the best

His song selections were great for his acoustic versions and all, but what did it for me were the chord voicings on the chorus of "Sweet Thing!" That is my most favorite instrumentation cover of that song I've ever heard. He probably just improvised it on the spot which was amazing!
Only problem is that he doesn't play the songs in full-length but this is actually my favorite versions of any of these songs. I WISH HE RELEASED AN ACOUSTIC ALBUM WITH ALL OF THESE SONGS IN THIS STYLE!
Ok now saying that Prince was actually a king. There is nothing like hearing a song broken down to acoustic to give you a real understanding of how great a song is or was when written. Prince is seriously one of the greatest singer song writer guitar players of all time. To really understand how good of a guitar player he was look up him playing my guitar gently weeps. Playing with the best of the best guitar players at that time and having them in awe of what he was doing. That shit is full circle.
Prince may have had a reputation for being someone who was really into himself, but I love how he was in this performance.. He was a hell of a songwriter, for sure.

This has truly lifted by spirits as i am battling a chronic illness. I have loved Prince since my teens and had his beautiful poster too. I feel truly blessed that i was able to see him live (only once though) during his Purple Rain tour!! In Toronto. Thank you dear, precious Prince Rogers Nelson for the amazing gift of your precious music!! Love and miss you! I remember being a kid and thinking that Prince’s Super Bowl halftime show was boring. Didn’t care for it. 13 years old I picked up a guitar and saw this video. Holy crap was I wrong. I regret thinking that. The man’s playing was phenomenal.
sometimes it snows in april. this performance was on 4/21. he sat across from me after the show and just stared. it was the last time I saw him ;-( years later, he was gone on that same day.
I sang along, laughed and cried. I still feel the pain of losing this musical genius. My first crush and love at 10 years old back in the 80s💕 RIP Prince 👑
So elegant how he played that last chord. If you go back to his first few albums, his command of guitar was amazing eventhough most of his work focused on his lead guitar playing. True genius.
That E 13(11) chord was unexpected the first time I heard this (during the video release) years ago, but man was it beautiful (Sometimes It Snows in April)🎼!
Prince's, Lianne La Havas's and Sting's videos are my favourite so far! If I may have some additional inspiration, maybe Queen and Love of my Life? John Mayer's Neon from Where the light is? Just sayin' ;) And of course any amount of Prince material is appreciated!
Acoustic guitar is a different animal, many fear of it. Many excellent electric guitarists dont even touch an acoustic. This way of playing is Hendrixeske style, use your thumb, you have to press harder , do the rythm , bass and melody , you dont have sustain, any mistake is noticeable and only one guitar onstage , even harder.Plus he sings.
I can't thank you enough for doing this. This performance is some of my favourite Prince material and it's killed me not being able to find a tab of it anywhere. Kudos!

Man o man, this never gets old! Prince was one 'BMF' in this one, especially when he broke out with that sweet thing cut, daaamnnnnn that was cold, especially when he got the ladies to serenade the last bit, dem Katie's even got prince to applaud. Wonderfully done by one of the greatest beyond legendary artists and musicians of all time.
