People cry about how bad it is to grow in a carpeted room.. this dude got a rug and whole ass animal in a cage with no issues.

I do feel as if people believe contamination happens a lot easier than it truly does and people are very over cautious because of that. Although no one likes having there grow contaminated and it is best to take precautions. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take :)

When the block is fully colonized it don't really matter they have a pretty strong immune styem at that point. Now doing agar work in a carpeted area oh yeah that partical load is super high contaim is crazy like that
@crazymycologist
@crazymycologist 7 месяцев назад
@@Deltaforce650 I agree, I use a sab on a desk over carpet and I got 2 dogs. No contam yet but I know it’s coming. Looking into getting one of those spikey plastic carpet mats to trap any particles the might be kicked around while I work and so if I do get contam it’s less likely to settle in the carpet and make a comeback
@Deltaforce650
@Deltaforce650 7 месяцев назад
@@crazymycologist well if you properly understand free air partical load there's contaim every where, almost every air partical-which indoors can be ab 15,000 can have or be contaim...so in reality you can do a agar transfer in a portapoddy if you have propper sterizle technique, and quickly but smoothly do transfers with still air😁 if u do get contaim I recommend learning how to open a petri dish with one hand and switch to hydrogen peroxide if u end up having problems 👍

@GoombaGrows
@GoombaGrows 10 месяцев назад
I’m using a spider farmer sf1000. It’s a 100 watt grow light and I’m using the lowest setting. Pretty much any light will work as it’s only real purpose is to give the mushrooms a direction to grow in. Just have to make sure it doesn’t produce a lot of heat if any so you don’t dry out your cake and you also have to make sure it’s a good distance from your bins or you may notice your mycelium yellowing from it. Hope this helped!

Great Vid! How much condensation is ok inside the bin? I have alot on side and top of bin. Does that mean I need more FAE? or just leave it alone?
@GoombaGrows
@GoombaGrows Год назад
Good question! During fruiting you want a pretty high humidity (around 70-80%) so condensation on the lid and sides is good. You also want super little drops of water on the entire surface but make sure they stay small. On mine I noticed I may have over misted and saw some water pooling on the surface. That could cause problems so just take a clean paper towel and gently dry out the big drops. Hope this helps!

@GoombaGrows those little water drops are the first stage of fruiting, it's not actually water it's something the mycelium pushes out called primordia to begin your pins

is any of this necessary, cant you just colonise the substrate with the tub the way you set it up for fruiting?
@GoombaGrows
@GoombaGrows 2 месяца назад
I don’t think I fully understand the question, when spawning to bulk and colonizing substrate you want to have co2 build up and high humidity. When switching to fruiting conditions you are changing those covered holes on your bin to filters / micropore tape to allow air exchange. This will promote fruiting and pin growth

Newbie here. I have a question. So i am growing white button mushrooms, (I know) plain...boring but hey im learning! Can you tell me if there is fresh air added while colonization what happens? I dont have masking tape its just the filters like you have. Will it hurt anything if theres air getting in? Im not using a fan or anything. I am also growing enoki, but im waiting for my next monotub to come in the mail. Those were grown using BRF cakes because thats all i had at the time. It colonized the cakes just fine but i know i should have done grain, i just didnt have any at the time. Any help would be appreciated
@GoombaGrows
@GoombaGrows 4 месяца назад
Nothing boring about button mushrooms! Some negative effects of introducing fresh air too early could be slower colonization times, early fruiting and higher possibility of contamination. This most definitely can be an issue but I don’t see it being of huge concern. If you have good genetics that are contamination resistant your mushrooms may even benefit from early FAE. Long story short though, take what I say with a grain of salt. I have only grown mushrooms for a couple of months and have yet to try to grow button mushrooms. All mushrooms will need slightly different care. Hope this helped slightly at the least !

@@GoombaGrows You responded FAST! Thank you so much for that! I ordered A LOT of supplies to get me started and even made live culture jars, which multiplied my chances of getting it right! The mycelium grew in like 5 days and I got a clump of them so now Everytime I get a new case of jars I make brf cakes. They seem to like them, and for substrate I got coir, vermiculite and manure. They are eating that substrate quick. I have grain bags on the way! What's your favorite type of spawn?

That’s awesome! Im glad to hear it :) I was on break at work when I got the notification for your comment so I was able to respond quick. Personally I haven’t decided which grain I prefer yet. They have lots of inoculation points because of the small surface area of each individual grain and they are also fairly inexpensive grains to purchase in bulk 😁

I hope this isn't too retarded of a question, but I'm just curious. When you talk about clearing off all the water from the lid so that it doesn't get the mycelium all wet and introduce any kind of contaminants. Isn't that basically what the dunk is when you do the next flush? Is there a difference? I'm not trying to sound cocky I'm sitting here writing this and I feel like I'm sounding cocky but I'm legitimately asking a question because I'm curious.
@GoombaGrows
@GoombaGrows 10 месяцев назад
No question is a bad question that’s for sure! And to be fair you have a really good point and I think about the same things. How can having big water droplets cause contamination when we literally dunk the cake for hours to rehydrate it. I think the only semi good answer I have. Is that when water is sitting on the surface it means the cake is hydrated enough to the point where it isn’t absorbing water and that can cause problems when the water is just sitting on the mycelium. But when you dunk the cake and let it dry, the cake absorbs all the access water. That’s the only real explanation I have. There is definitely risk involved though when you dunk your cake but it is also a necessary process :)
