Great video! I never think of using the plastic vent panels. Great idea. Good tool tips, and clever use of materials! Thanks for the shout out on the HUD!

Great video. Tantiv-ee is how it was pronounced on the Story of Star Wars record from 1977. We listened to that until it was worn through. I can still hear the narrator in my head.

Nice panel, but it's not a HUD. The whole point of a HUD is you can see through it. So you can see the information while looking outside, instead of looking down at a panel or screen.
@garlandsworkshop
@garlandsworkshop 8 месяцев назад
Thank you. Glad you like it. As for the definition of a HUD…you are 100% correct. But I’ve noticed in the sci-fi and prop making community….looser interpretations of the definition are used. So I run with it. After all, in a Galaxy far far away….all their displays are still 8-Bit graphics to describe complicated space navigational phenomenon. Hope you don’t mind if I continue to play fast with earthly definitions 😀. Have a great weekend

Im a little perplexed as to how it is actually an H.U.D. but great build regardless, thanks for the tips in packing foam to diffuse led lighting, fyi you can buy clips to join them together so you dont need to soLder, yes I'm from Australia and we pronounce the L. It's not spelt sodder 😂 Anyhoo, nice work.

I’m pleased to hear you liked the build. And yea, it’s not an Earthly HUD so to speak…so thanks for playing along with the stretch of imagination. As for the connections, you are right of course. Clips are easy and provide a good connection. But like any maker…we tend to lean to what we know and have. I have friends who only use jigsaws for cuts, where I prefer table saws and routers. In another video u changed it up by using the Wago connectors in my empire panel from a water sprinkler box. It made for quick work. Thanks for watching. Cheers

I agree. I had really old helping hands hich I rarely used but bought new ones because they looked cool…like Doc Oc in spiderman. Only to realize that Adam Savage already teaches this lesson quite succinctly in his book. Buy something cheap to see if you use it and if not, get rid of it. Lol

Very awesome!! Quick question and I may have missed it. Where did you find the images for the tablet? Was that from the circuit board you used? Im nowhere near that tech savy, so would you have any other suggestions as to what I could use for images like this ? Thanks in advance!

Thank you Charlie. I am happy to hear you like it. If you look at the video description you will find a link to my friend Jamie’s website where he sells the digital HUDs I used and he has many other cool things there too. They are very affordable. For other options, I would say you could could use really easy software like iMovie on an iPhone or tablet and make your own. RU-vid has “free green screens”, Star backgrounds, “only ships in space scenes”. Load that as your primary video. Then add a sci fi green screen border over top of it. Or make a border jn ms paint or PowerPoint and then add that as a green screen. There also tutorials online on how to make HUDe via PowerPoint using “animations” If you are patient enough, heck you could make a primitive one in paint or PowerPoint as an image. Then slowly change it so that it is a bunch slides and then make a movie from them. If you watch my secret Stash HUD video, it showcases Scott Bleisath huds. And he has made many more that he sells in ETSY. And for generic sci-fi HUDs, look in RU-vid for copyright free green screen huds. I hope this helps and finds you well.

Hey maker, I took a look at the 7" display on Amazon and there were several subpar reviews, item coming in damaged/blemished, etc. Have any issues?
@garlandsworkshop
@garlandsworkshop Год назад
Totally legit worry. I understand your concerns 100% From my experience, I have purchased 4 of these. I have had zero issues. Brian from the smugglers room YT channel uses them. And when I asked him about his, he had no issues. And he was the one that introduced it to me. I bought exactly the same components as he did. Plus, I bought it on Amazon. So at worst, it’s a quick return which Amazon excels at under their customer service model. Another option is the digital photo frames like I used in the “how to make a secret stash for your Hud” video. The hud parts was built by ascot Bleisath. And I know Dennis from the Black Market outpost uses them a lot. I hope this info helps you

Oh I forgot, I also used this same display on my “skywalker hands stasis chamber” episode. I remember in that build I thought there was a blemish. But I just forgot to take off the plastic film. I took it off and it looked perfect

Thank you. I try my best to keep improving and expanding my skills in this relatively new hobby. I can see advantages that come with the 3D model, print and paint method. Maybe one day I’ll try to learn that, but the old school way will always be my first go to methods. Creature of habit I guess. I’m glad others like you enjoy it as well

Suggest you research what a HUD actually is. Hint: This isn't one. Not of any kind.
@garlandsworkshop
@garlandsworkshop 7 месяцев назад
You are absolutely correct. This is not a dictionary version of a HUD. But like so many of the online prop makers and “digital HUD designers”,…we call this a HUD. I guess like everything else in living languages, terms morph and adapt. This is what everyone calls this, so I will too. But the day Technology is so off the shelf I can make a real world HUD from a household item for a fictitious prop item…I absolutely will. Because that sounds awesome. I hope you enjoys the build…regardless of word (acronym) choice. Cheers

This is not a HUD
@garlandsworkshop
@garlandsworkshop 5 месяцев назад
You are 100% correct. This is not a literal dictionary definition “: a system that projects information onto a usually transparent surface that sits directly in a user's line of vision” Instead, it’s more of an example of adaptations of the English language morphing to work in the imaginary world of prop making….as many makers just call most any display of information a HUD. It lacks the overlay aspect with regards to field of vision. If creators are all going to call these hud’s, I have no problem running with it Besides, I can’t get too worked up about literal translations after all…as I’m building a sci-fi inspired prop related to a movie about fiction. It is just fun to build and display on a wall…and the acronym seems to help people in this niche, find what they are looking for. I hope you enjoyed the video, regardless of the title nomenclature. Hopefully one day, house appliances will offer me what I need to make a home hud from their parts. Cheers
