👋🏻 Hello Friends! When I was 23, I decided to refinish a chest of drawers that was my brothers (who is ten years older than me). It had eight layers of paint on it! I did not know that until I got into stripping all those layers. I dreaded it and wished I hadn’t ever started it. Funny thing was, as I would expose another layer of paint, I would get a visual of some of the things my brother ( and older sister by 8 years) wrote on the chest. One thing was “Jesus saves green stamps”, and things like a peace sign (a circle with an upside down “Y” inside), and the phrase “keep on truckin’. These are just a few. It made the project to where I was able to finish! Before my findings, I was thinking I wished I had never started the project because of all the paint layers. Finding all those writings on the chest, in my brothers own handwriting made it like a scavenger hunt! Instead of dreading working in it, I would find myself getting excited to see what I might find that day! Quotes, names, phone numbers, signs and doodles. It made it fun and it turned out beautiful. It’s a special piece of furniture that reminds my of my brother who I miss dearly. ❤️💜💚
I wish you had listed the details about the product used. I have stayed away from chalk paint for the reason you mentioned, and was excited to hear about the gloss finish top coat. My theory: anything that is used a lot should be easily cleanable! Thank you for the tips! Getting ready to start a kitchen using a vintage steel cabinet. Love the look of your fridge.
It turned out so cute! I painted a vintage fridge years ago before I knew about chalk paint. However, mine didn't have a plug or anything attached. I'll use mine for storage.

A couple of years have passed since you painted the fridge. It looked rusty so I thought it should have a rust stopper put on before painting. Did you have any bleed thru ? The fridge sure turned out cute tho.
Very cute! I thought for sure you'd be painting it seafoam green- still nicely done. I wish we could still buy durable, quality appliances, etc. It's true they don't make'em like they used to.
Theres a website that sells modern appliances with that vintage look. Kinda pricey but you can get them in: white, black, red and sea foam green. I was surfing the web one day and found them. Very nice products btw.

My stepfather literally has the same fridge like this one and it’s been sitting on his garage for probably 20+ years. He got it because it has a beer dispenser on the side which is great for man caves or in a basement bar. I’m planning to give it a makeover because it’s got potential and I want to bring back its beauty. Thank you for this video!
I have an old 50s fridge that is in desperate need of a good paint job. Mine is my every day go to fridge. I think I'm going to try chalk paint and the overlay finish. Yours looks fantastic!
O MY SPARKLES!!!! I'm so jealous! I've been wanting that exact old refrigerator for soooo many years!!!! And I want it to be PINK!!!!! {I've actually already got an old vintage gas cook stove but it's a baby blue color, PLUS, my hubby wants to put all new "guts" on the inside just to be safe.... Then, we will be painting it pink. HOWEVER, since it's considered a "high heat" item, we were gonna have whatever color I choose mixed up at a car paint and body shop and then use a sprayer.... {unless you happen to know of any other way to paint something that gets hot like that}....
Great job there! 😀 Craziest job I witnessed /assisted with was helping my Dad paint our washer to match the new dryer we purchased. 🤦🏾♀️😂 My Dad got the wrong kind of paint. It's funny bc I knew it wasnt the right paint but I didnt have the knowledge I have now. Also, theres no way I was gonna tell him he made a bad choice. Once he figured it out, I chimed in.
Actually old ones from the 50s like this are actually pretty energy efficient due to their insulation and the fact that they need to be manually de-iced. In the 60s and 70s the ones with automatic de-icing were power hogs but these ones are similar to a modern fridge

Hi - i hope you can help! I copied this project and did not have a successful outcome. Now I’m stuck with a botch painted fridge that took me 4 days and chips at the lightest bump, definitely not nearly glossy enough (4 coats of glaze later…) and the parts that meet rubbers just pull off bits as they stick. If any of the surface gets wet (perhaps defrosting) snd not immediacy dried it sets in and lifts the paint, bubbles snd Rahul peels off. So it just has not bonded nor set properly. So. I have had in depth chats with the paint store and apparently there is no fix they can see. Do you perhaps know of a fix? I’m thinking to try seal it again with something like a clear epoxy to get a real proper smooth glossy finish, and seal it good and proper, however it would need to be solvent based which now I can’t do because chalk is water based! Grrrrrr Any suggestions that you have perhaps had actual working success with would be appreciated !!! Thank you so much 😢
Please don't cut so many of the steps out - showing the full step or more of it would be very helpful and is what most videos do. We can't tell lots of crucial information due to the overedit of this one. Thank you.
Do not try this. Chalk paint is great for that occasional table that will never be used. But not for any piece of furniture that works. I painted a desk and it lasted a year. Even before that you could start to see streaks.
Some people want vintage items like this close to original condition or professionally refinished. Crafters have chalk painted a lot of valuable Midcentury pieces and ruined them.
This is not for me. An old refrigerator that uses just so much unnecessary electricity. That fridge should be recycled and taken down for parts. Not used for beverages. Also, just painting over that grime, yuck. that's just nasty
It's a myth that they use more electricity. That is actually applicable for later models with automatic de-icing and less insulation. as long as you are willing to manually de-ice it once every 6 months a 50s fridge has around the the same power use as a modern refrigerator/freezer
What a waste!!!!!! A beautiful fridge made to look really bad.. chalk paint will get filthy as soon as you touch it.. plus , chalk paint is very much out of trend ..you need to update your design ideas..
