Use a hairdryer around the edges and corners. It makes it stretchy and pliable so it will form around perfectly

Great tip, thank you! We used hairdryer for air bubbles and wrinkles.

I thought the countertop looked better black. Nice job though

Even the really old, really ugly counter tops look better. This looks ok from a distance but it's not practical and it's really bad up close, especially about a week after applying it

Use a hair dryer or heat gun to seal in the edges. I saw someone else do it, and I tried it when I put paper on my closet doors. It works

Hair dryer to the rescue👍🏻😊

Thank you for this. I have a back to my counter like yours and had no idea how to put the paper on. This was a great help!

Awesome video! This is almost identical to what I'm planning to do so this was great to be able to visualize the process!

I wish you would have showed how to do the corner triangle part of the counter .. it was the only reason i watched this and you skipped right over that

I appreciate your feedback! To be honest this part was what I struggled the most with. I'll make sure to cover the corner triangle part in my next video. Thanks for watching!

I’ve been thinking about doing this to my bathroom countertop but I’m wondering why no one is popping the sink out to lay the paper? Would this not make it better so water doesn’t get under the paper? Easier installation? Your advice appreciated, thank you!
@diywithdando
@diywithdando 5 месяцев назад
That's an interesting thought! Popping out the sink might indeed make installation easier since you won't have to work around it. It could be worth considering for a smoother process.

It look much better the way it was than the contact paper.

Thanks for making this it was very helpful. The end of my countertops (the side that touched you when you stood in front of it) is rounded, and I have two L-shaped corners. I am wondering how you managed your L-shaped corner, It looks like you did the middle at an angle?

You’re welcome! I'm glad you found the video helpful. This part of the project I struggled the most with, I’ll be making a separate video about it. However, I angled the contact paper in the middle to create a seamless transition. It might take some trial and error to get it just right, but I hope that helps!

Did you overlap the contact paper or place it right next to the other piece?
@diywithdando
@diywithdando 2 месяца назад
Hey @arberry99! Thanks for your question. I did overlap the contact paper slightly to ensure a seamless look. However, in high-traffic areas, like where I place my cutting board, it did fade/wear out over time due to the slight elevation created by the overlap.

What happens of the kids put a hot pot on it. Does it melt or is it heat resistant?
@diywithdando
@diywithdando 5 месяцев назад
It will most likely get damaged. I took a hot tray from the oven that touched the counter and it left a mark. Hot mugs or plates are fine, no damages.

Or you could just tell them not to.

I’m pretty sure your caulking gun has a point cutter for you.. it’s the little silver hole on the side and it cuts a perfect shape
@diywithdando
@diywithdando Год назад
You are 100% correct👍🏻 but I could not cut with it at an angle. I struggled so I decide to go with the craft knife🙏🏻☺️

Did you not use a heat gun? Or need one?

How durable is this? Will it withstand hot items?
@diywithdando
@diywithdando Год назад
No scratching or peeling (3 months in). The hottest item i’ve placed directly on it was a cup of coffee/tea, otherwise I use a trivet pad.
@mydogeatspuke
@mydogeatspuke Год назад
It's not durable at all. It will scratch and chip just from moving your kettle or chopping board around, and it won't withstand any heat.
@mr.billhillerich
@mr.billhillerich Год назад
Looks nice, but won't last. Nothing hot, no sliding anything with a rough bottom, will scrape off finish. Will wear off the " finish" very rapidly. You'll have to have " safety" fine cloth materials under EVERYTHING you put on top of it...bottom line it won't last looking that good, not at all. But nice job!😊
