Amazon and the kit from Amazon. TDS is a manufacturer. They don’t sell direct. There were other places that sold cheaper but with Amazon it was at my house next day. I liked that

Thanks for the answer to my question. When you have the ‘gravity flow’ hose to the diesel tank line on the truck, do you keep the valve coming out of the reserve open all the time. I would assume you do and then when the gauge on the truck starts to drop you know your reserve tank is empty? If you do this do have to have a seal tight cap on the end of the fuel nozzle to keep fuel from coming out when the truck when the tank is full? I have a magnetic cap on the end from Amazon but doesn’t seal tight? Thanks for your time with my ?’s.

That’s actually a good question. I use to. But there is an overflow tube on the inside of the fender. That’s where it will leak from. It will hardly do that unless your parked on a spot that’s un Level. So I run it until my regular tank moves. Then I open the valve.

Good question. No issues. I am about to hit 150,000. I run fuel additives. Lucas and Howes. I knew this is an issue. My company started with 2 trua year ago. I’ve done 130k in a year. The other is a 2020. Second month it went down. Under warranty it was fixed. It took a month. Lesson learned. Warranty work is overrated. Should of paid out of pocket 6 grand to avoid losing 20 in lost revenue. I try t learn from every situation. Hope this helps. They do have a recall now

I wanna do the same to my 19 ram but was also thinking of putting a 12v valve after the shutoff valve ran to an aux switch to allow quick transfer on the go at the press of a button and not have to worry of leaving the valve open or closed

That’s an excellent idea. Because I’ve noticed that if your MPG is below 8mpg then the truck drinks a little faster than it fills up.

Prob stupid question but, do you have to fill up both tanks, or will the aux Tank slowly keep filling up your oem Tank?

Good question. It’s gravity fed. So yes I fill up tanks. The top tank drains into the factory truck tank.

what length does your truck measure from the end of the cab to the center of the axle? i want to get a 90 gallon xfer tank/toolbox combo, but dont want issues of it being too close to the gooseneck trailer. my new truck is only 60" cab to axle.

That’s about right. It’s square. It’s hard to fill all the way up. It actually holds about 12 gallons in it as well that doesn’t drain out. Thanks for the comment buddy

Coming from left field but have you considered a bed cover, like a Retrax when your not hauling? If so, that probably wouldn’t have the clearance correct? Amazing video, appreciate the insight!

If it sets lower like I side the truck then no. But if it sets on top then it will work

OK I just spoke to a tech at RDS. He said the tank will have 7 or 8 gallons left in it when it stops draining. He also said you don't want to drain that into your main tank as it will have debris collected in it over time. He said that you should not fill more than 95% so if 7 gallons remains, I figure that 80 Gallons is what you should expect to see for a fill up. I'm going to go with those numbers and see how it works out when towing.

Well that’s about what I put in there. Around 80 gallons. I tried an in-line filter. But being gravity fed it didn’t fill up fast enough. So I took it off. Thanks for letting me know this!

@@TRTHotshot I think adding a filter will require adding a 12 volt in line pump also as any restriction will slow down the flow.

It did. I thought about redoing the outlet to a 3/8 or 1/4” and new fuel line. Instead of 5/16

Does the tank have a vent or does it rely on the truck's tank vent?

For a non cdl hotshot would you recommend this tank to be installed on a ram 2500? Or should i stick to a 60 gallon tank?

It’s 145lbs. My advice is constantly watch your weight. If you have a light load then use it. If your around 25-26k then don’t use it. My partner has 100 gallon tank. He was running NON CDL. Used his tank when he could. The tank is awesome for savings. Filling up cheaper places. Good luck buddy.

How long it does take to fill up when u have 1/4 and ur aux tank is full? I just got a 50gal tank to my dually with tool box and i had 1/2 on my truck (50gal tank) and filled the aux tank and it took like an hour to fill to 3/4 of truck tank and still like 2 inches over the feed valve of diesel on the aux tank and it’s doesn’t drain.

Yeah. If I get bad fuel mileage 7mpg then it will run out faster than filling up.

Also I have trucker path. Not sure if you have it but it’s a life saver. GPS for trucks. Has stations. Weigh stations. Tells you if they are open. I use it daily

I just installed this in my 2021 Ram 3500. Two questions for you. Does your tank empty completely, if not do you know how much remains when it stops draining? The tank is rated at 91 Gallons, will it take 91 Gallons from empty?

Big Tom those are 2 good questions. 1. No it doesn’t all drain out. There might be just a little in the bottom. If they had the inside pitched ( almost sure it’s just flat) then I think it would. I though about making the right side 1/4” higher. 2. I have not been able to put 91 gallons in it. I have been able to get 80 something gallons in it. Not really sure the exact. You have to let it fill up. Then pull nozzle out a little. If you tried to completely fill up I am sure there would be a big mess. Overall it’s an awesome purchase. Note: I did have a hoseclamp bust. Leaked out a lot of fuel. That’s the only thing I upgraded. Beefier hose clamps. No issues since.

@@TRTHotshot Thanks for the reply...... I just cut and capped a piece of 1/2" PVC to use to "Stick the Tank". I measured 2.5 inches of Fuel left in the tank after letting it drain all night. I even put the right side wheels up on the curb to see if that would help. I will see if I can find a formula that will tell me Gallons per inches. The Gauge that came with the tank reads E

@@odinjunior1 HERE IS THE FORMULA: if you have the same tank ( RDS 72745 = 55 x 30 x 19 ) L x W x H / 231 = total Gallons SO 55 x 30 x 2.5 / 231 = 17.8 GALLON OF DIESEL AVAILABLE IN YOUR TANK.

No issues. I can leave it open. But what I do is when I run I just have it closed. When I get to about 1/4 or 1/2 I open the valve and let it start filling up my tank. So it doesn’t constantly have pressure.

That was always my question. If you leave the valve open from the aux tank does it overfill the main tank of the truck and backflow out the fill neck.

They don’t sell direct. They have distributors. I had up going with Amazon because they got it to my house the next day. And I did not want to wait another month. I figured as quick as I can get it the faster I start saving money and the faster I start moving from job to job.

How come gas doesn't come out of the gas cap when both are full?

Because there is an over flow line on the inside of the fender. If they are both full and you park un-level it will flow out of over flow.

@@TRTHotshot yeah, I notice a lot of aux tanks block the hitch view camera view. I’m looking to start a trucking company, doing freight and rv transport. With as many times as I’ll need to hook up and disconnect, I don’t want to block that camera.

I don’t have the camera for my bed. Just back up camera. I wouldn’t think it would. Generally the camera is in the 3rd brake light. Up high on the cab. My box is low. It sits flush with the bed.

@@TRTHotshot No problem, thanks for replying. If you leave the valve open on the tank, does your overflow leak on the truck? I put 70 gallons in the aux tank, it filled the primary tank, but the bitch didnt stop. Lol! I ran inside and came back out to it streaming out the truck. I shut the valve off on the tank and it stopped. I’m going to double check tomorrow to make aure the connection isnt leaking but I dont think it is. When I pushed the fill flap open on the neck, it was filled to the top

Man I have had that happen a couple times. So now I drive until 1/4 tank and then flip it. I thought about putting a screw in the end of that and blocking it off. Not sure how that would work lol

@@TRTHotshot Thats actually good to hear, I thought I messed something up for a minute when I saw it draining. It makes sense now when I was looking for tanks and the installation kit I kept seeing “always off” solenoids. I think thats getting added in the near future. I want to figure out a way to put it on a timer in case me or my driver (when I get one) forgets to turn it off. In a perfect world they would make a float valve for the neck.

Will fuel is your biggest expense. TSD fuel card. It’s linked to your debit card. Can save up to 90 cents per gallon. Usually around 60 cents. You can save around 60-70 a fill up. It’s a truck payment at the end of the month
