You're the greatest at doing figure reviews! I laugh every time at some of your comments. And I rely on your honest opinions, when it comes to considering making a figure purchase. Thanks again!
This guy is so cool . My neighbors got shockwave and jetfire for Christmas the year both those guys came out . Shockwave was cool but ole jerfire was awesome . I just remember thinking how cool an autobot plane was and still is apparently. Thanks man
Great review. Strange how they went all out with finger articulation, but no waist rotation. For as long as this has been delayed, it should've been perfect. Like you said, for as awesome as this figure is, there are certain things we expect from Fans Toys that they did not deliver here.
10/10 review as always, only commenting now because I just transformed him to jet mode, and oh. Oh my. Oh my oh my oh my. This is *glorious*. Every smidge of apprehension I had because of that abhorrent Kronos is gone and I am in love. Wasit swivel or not, this toy is incredible. Fun and intuitive transformation, he looks PERFECT in BOTH modes, the sculpt, the scale, I honestly can barely gripe about the waist. Finally. All these years....finally we have Skyfire. I would like something to go between his legs in jet mode to lock them tighter, but still. I got my Tarn re-issue and him in 2 days time. What a week!
Daca toys was your first video i had watched, so it's a treat to finally see one of a good Skjetyfire. I was looking forward to this and now I want it even more. I hope that red paint makes the cut. Good job on the fish Matt, and also what I hope was a Doors ref.
My god, this guy was a good omen of things to come. Love when you said "We haven't really seen that before" when you talked about that elbow detail. Like YEAH, get used to seeing things you haven't before, it's Fanstoys XD.
It seems that Fanstoys listened to you regarding the finish. They are going to make a "comic version" with additional paint applications and the red chrome to all the red parts. In tfsource the pre-order was sold out in one day! You should receive a percentage for the idea! :D
Fantastic review Skull Man!!! This is an amazing piece as is but I really hope they give it waist articulation and spruce up the paint. All in all this is the definitive Skyfire and it will super hard if not impossible to beat...
I like how the (what sounds like a tambourine) comes in on the up beat on the intro music. Another excellent review and I can't wait to get my hands on my copy. As far as I'm concerned, (based on your review of course) all of the other versions of MP Skyfire/Jetfire are absolute garbage in comparison. Thank you so very much for taking the time to share this and I hope you enjoy Logan.
Great review fellow collector. This will be the definitive Skyfire. Love the build love the scale and may have to do some light grey Gundam marker action but damn..........we are getting closer and closer to G1 completion. AMAZING!
Great review Bobby, I like the engineering on this piece i think the transformation isnt to complex and enjoyable, i figure the reason why its not painted is to keep the cost down. However i am afraid that over time the plastic will yellow. Thanks once again for the great review and your opinion.
Looks amazing! I'm new to third party really but have this puppy on preorder! Dude I really appreciate this review! It's a lot of money and you really helped buy showing this when and the way you did! Much appreciated 😎👍🏻
Excellent review I have him on preorder I cannot wait to get my hands on this figure by far the best representation of Skyfire & one of the best all around looking transformers made to date
I am glad I pre-ordered this. I saw the prototype for Daca Toy's version, at the NJCC a few years ago (back when I still lived out that way) and was not impressed at all. Glad I waited.
Mr. Skullface this is the best review I have seen of this figure. Seeing how the hips are attached so you think it is possible for them to add a waist swivel on the figure without re-engineering too much? And like you said if they add a finish this would look gorgeous.
TW Primorion had a trigger on the gun, which actually turned the LED when pressed down. Otherwise, not sure any other 3P figure does that i've seen. I can't wait to get this guy. I agree on the friction hinge hips...ratchets are the way to go. Even MP Star Sabre has them. Hopefully KFC or ATP will do a ratchet upgrade kit for this guy.
Hey bobby, we wanna know what your thoughts are on the new ultra painted version of skyfire? I'm sure you'll do a video on that lil bit of aggravation right?. At least i never got one to begin with so im good but that price tag mac!
Any word from Fans Toys if they will cover the Screws in each of the front shoulders for the final production public release? I'm ok with the lack of a paint finish only because he is white, and I'm not sure if painting with white tones or clear gloss would help him look better. As for the waist swivel, it's a shame, but maybe it was because the torso needing to hold all the weight of the backpack 🎒. If there was a ball joint there it may want to flop forward. Well I watched all 28min and felt you did a great honest review of this sample. I already have mine fully paid for and am happy to move forward with the purchase. Thank you for your time 👍
Great looking Skyfire. Hopefully they'll iron out the rough patches, but even as is it's pretty good. And as a concept, a third party figure of a design made to get around the Macross/Harmony Gold IP issue is delicious.
Congrats for the review, Bobby. I remember when you used the words 'close to perfection' when you reviewed Soar. Now you have a replacement for your apple core.
sjit, I thought this would be a no Brainer. btw, at final thoughts it looks like the white on the chest and arms is a different white than the joints? secondly: is it able to go macross-mode? (jet front yet still standing on 2 feet) like it oddly did in the cartoon? looks great though!! nice review as always. thanks!!
Great, work Bobby. Did you ever end up actually weighing him? He's definitely a bigger boy so I'd expect him to weigh a decent amount if the FT Insecticons are anything to go by.
Disappointed in the "shiny white plastic"(I can look past the lack of a waist swivel) ...I would expect that from takara, not fanstoys. Especially after how great 'Sovereign' turned out .. will probably skip on this one ... great job again Bobby, thanks for keeping it real..God bless!
A looking at this. I would love to see them make a Silverbolt this size and the rest. Seeker sized. Too bad still about the waist swivel. I would love to see which combiner they will launch first.
The lack of a waist swivel Sucks! I mean I really like this figure, don't even mind the lack of paint because that could be fixed..but that lack waist articulation is A Real Bummer! Especially for 350 dollars.
Do you feel comfortable with the wheels. The jet mode is so heavy. I just have that fear of Soar and that infamous piece that breaks off. Or would you rather display it on the stand.
Great review! Just curious, would you like to see Fanstoys do a remold of this figure to look and work like the original Jetfire toy? I would buy one in a heartbeat, display one in bot mode, one in alt mode. Jetfire was my favorite g1 toy, and I hope Fanstoys sees the opportunity to use this as a starting point to offer both to the fans. As always, keep the great Mp scale Transformers reviews coming!
As to the lack of the waist swivel, I'll tell you why it doesn't bother me: if you look at the design of Skyfire in the G1 cartoon, or Jetfire in the old G1 comics books, there's no way he would have been able to swivel at the waist. The jet cockpit was one solid piece all the way from the top of his chest right down to his crotch, and the backpack also would have gotten in the way. His torso would have been completely rigid. As to this figure itself, I think that allowing for a waist swivel would have compromised other aspects of the figure too much.
I didn't really expect a waist swivel on this guy. I just don't see how it could be done especially with the backpack. Having a finish on a figure of this size would probably jack the price up even more and it's already up there so I can see why they didn't. Still a nice piece, thanks for the review!
Haha...very true but it's still not the finish product so who knows they may surprise us with slight waist articulation. This wasn't a very dynamic character and I don't remember him having it in the G1 cartoon other then very slight...im just saying...could be wrong my memory isn't the best.
15:48 the head fits better if you rotate it 180 first. As you have it, the back of his helmet is pushing against the metal sliders and the nose against the bottom. But upside down, the back of the head has plenty of space and the nose fits behind the sliders.
Your transformation on this was/is the best I've seen on youtube! Were you still planning on doing those discussion videos you talked about doing in February?
When is this coming out? You got it in March and its middle of may already. Gawd its hard to manage my money between Hot Toys/Chogokin and third party....
I'm actually surprised about the lack of waist swivel... just such a weird decision. I think the light piping might depend on if you have a lighted case, I've found that light piped eyes show up incredibly well in multiple light sourced display in general (then you have dumb designs where you have light piped eyes but have some huge piece of plastic blocking the back of the head...). I personally like it because I've found the metallic or chromatic eyes often do not reflect light well enough and eyes look dead. Note I have a LED strip lighted cabinet nicknamed miniature sun and it still have many angles where eyes would not reflect light well whereas light piped would have the eyes actually noticeable.
Unfortunately this dropped after Soveriegn, which is a candidate for figure of the year. It's like the headlining band opening up first .. Then opening act afterwards.
I think it looks great I have one nit pick though. Why oh why did fanstoys not make an option to give him a toy look too.? They did it with the insecticons. How hard would it have been to give him the bolt on parts an alternate head and back pack? I know from your inferno review that you like the cartoon look. I myself tend to like the toy look. My shelf is a mix of toy look and cartoon. But overall I like a more detailed look then that new dumbed down animae toon look. Hence my maketoys purchase of hellfire over MP inferno. Hope what I'm saying makes kind of sense.
Because the cartoon Skyfire and toy Jetfire look almost nothing alike. (since Jetfire was originally a Bandai toy, one of Takara's biggest competitors in Japan) It would require more than just an alternate head and some add-on armor to achieve that look. Still, this does look much more detailed than the current Takara Masterpiece direction, to me at least.
Considering these are like 400-700 bucks on the aftermarket now I doubt I'll ever own one. Really wish I'd gotten one while they were in stock in the three main stores.
I do wish paint apps were done as to their standard and what they known for. I do wish for waist rotation but I guess it's comparable to TT Magnus mp Great review, you might have been moody after watching Logan lol
in regards to the interchangeable insignia piece on the chest, it looked like do to a small gap under it, i think you were supposed to push it down then it would come out. Otherwise great review.
a great version of Skyfire, but i think it looks too vanilla for my taste. If i had room i MIGHT bite but as the bots i already have i think i have to focus more on my Cons for balance
years ago i have the Daca toys Kronos but now I have the Fanstoys verson, it feels better, transforms better , but i still like how Kronos looked in robot mode
I'm not a 3rd party person at all, but absolutely, if I ever decide to spend this type of cash on a toy, I'm not going to put with little things that should have been done but weren't. I would take generations jetfire for $40 over this for $200+ for sure.
It looks good, but last I checked, it's well over the $200 price tag...too expensive for my taste, wish I could get him though, we'll see though, when Takara makes their official MP version of this character.
My big concern, if there was an official MP, is that it would be even more pricey. The MP Megatron 2.0 is $230 dollars, where as Make Toys Despotron, one of, if not the most popular third party option is $147. The only real difference is the inclusion of the stock on the official guy (I think that is the only substantial difference,) not enough to justify an extra 80$. Takara has been raising prices too much in my opinion, given that there are so many good third party options these days. I would not be surprised if a MP Jetfire is $300 or more, if it happened.
Hopefully I am wrong and things stay more reasonably priced of course. Takara should in theory have a better profit margin than the third party companies that focus on high quality figures, so it would be silly if they price themselves out of the market by being greedy.
G1 Smokescreen Try to get it as it comes out; Fans Toys' releases are generally worth the cost. And unless you're buying second hand or waiting on a reissue, you'll be paying jacked up prices because stores will be running low on stock.
Yeah, that's like the Takara Legends Trypticon (looked on TFSource.com) & it's already too pricey. So...kinda goes hand & hand as far as Takara & 3rd party goes, I just wish prices would come down, as things are pretty expensive ad it is, already.
