The Transformers Fans Hobby MB-16 Lightning Eagle third-party toy is an awesome homage to the original Transformers Autobot Thunderclash, which was only released in Europe. This is a versus review, though, so we’ll put up Lightning Eagle against the original Turbomaster leader. Captain Kyle goes through both and you decide which is better.
Thunderclash was released in the European market at the tail end of Generation One, and he and his Turbomasters faced off against the Decepticon Skyquake and his Predators. The original toy was recolored and remolded into the Machine Wars Optimus Prime, which mainly had different missiles and no gold plastic. The Fans Hobby MB-16 Lightning Eagle is a great upgrade to the original G1 toy, with much better articulation, no gold plastic syndrome, and a combined mode that merges the cab and trailer into a large, powerful robot. Captain Kyle examines both the original and the third party, but you get to decide which is better.

This set began as Power Baser, a Powermaster Optimus Prime update. That set alone has 5 color versions, plus this & Machine Wars retools. Any version of their Godbomber will also fit this. I would recommend tapping put the pins that hold the super mode head to the trailer. Fitting that hinged rod through the legs to get it all together is difficult, just making the head a separate part gets rid of a lot of the hassle.

I would dearly love an official reissue of G1 Thunderclash. I know there is no universe where that's even remotely possible, but I'd still like one. Imagine a brand new Thunderclash with all the durability that comes with that, plus with better gold or different plastic that won't eventually crumble. (They say that the GPS problem isn't a thing anymore, but I'll believe it when I see it. When my Gen Selects Black Zarak is 20+ years old and hasn't crumbled, I'll accept it, I guess.) Anyway, I digress... thanks for another great comparison video.

the most recent example was ROTF Stratosphere. maybe it's cause it was the most recent figure with that type of gold plastic/use of it.

Maybe so, or it could be that it takes 13 or 14 years for the plastic to get brittle? IDK, that toy is recent enough to make me think that GPS has likely not been solved. Add in the fact that Hasbro contracts the actual manufacture of these toys to the lowest bidder, and I would have to double down on that bet. Still, it makes collecting interesting if you're looking for a silver lining.

@@the_rocs_roost at least they seem to have learned a bit, since we don't often see many gold plastic vots nor parts that are constantly under stress in general. now if they could so the same with clear plastic.

True. They sure do love that clear plastic. I'm a sucker for it; it looks cool, but it's not great for longevity. I like to see reissues like that Buzzworthy Bumblebee Cliffjumper that got rid of the clear plastic.

A fun little fact When I first saw the mould of this for Powermaster Optimus by some reviewer I mentioned in the comments this would be a great update for Thunderclash and then a few months later out this repaint/remould comes and I was suprised, A great review and comparison The Fans Hobby Is good thou the base and combine mode are odd choices but hey it still works and is great update to the original.

My advice on the original Thunder Clash toy - Remove the ratchet catch from his ankles (by taking his feet apart using a screwdriver, remove the catches from his ankles, and screw his feet back together) and sand the grip of his gun a bit.
