Transformers/Ghostbusters: Ghosts of Cybertron - Atop the Fourth Wall 

So I told my brother about Gozer destroying Cybertron, I said that "starscream was the one who chose the destroyer" And he immediately said, "it was just a giant starscream wasn't it?"

I don't see why you're so surprised that Starscream is a ghost. Of course there's robot heaven. Where would all the calculators go?

Can we talk about how good those lines as Megatron, Starscream, and Soundwave were? Because man, Linkara's vocal chops have come a long way.

Ectotron: And then Gozer asked the Decepticons to choose the form of their destruction. Optimus: I doubt Megatron would heed such a command. Ectotron: Starscream did that for him. Started wondering what would be capable of destroying Cybertron. Optimus: (annoyed) Let me guess. Gozer took the form of Starscream? Ectotron: Yep. Except far larger. And wearing your head as a torso accessory. As well as those of Megatron and others. Optimus: (facepalm) By Primus.

You should try it, commenter 3. Kids stuff is a lot more heartfelt and impactful than some like to think. People are entitled to enjoy whatever they want as long as they don’t gatekeep or use their passion to overlord others. 4. People are allowed to enjoy stuff from childhood. Being a grown up doesn’t mean never having fun or enjoying yourself. Living only to work and make money is not and never will be what being a true adult is.

True fact, this wasn't the first time a character originally played by Earnie Hudson fought alongside Optimus Prime. He played the voice of Agent William Fowler in the Transformers: Prime animated series. And that's just one of MANY top-tier talents that they had in that cast!

I've read about that Vigo painting in the firehouse some years ago. It's actually a poster from the art museum's gift shop that Vigo escape to after the painting was sprayed. Since it's not the original painting, all Vigo can do is talk.

Fun Fact about Starscreams ghost form: Not only was this the reason cybertronian scientists researched Starscream to find out how immortality for cybertronians could work (leading into the creation of the Transformers version of the Hulk pretty much) but also, when Tf was still part of Marvel canon, it was speculated that Starscream might've been a cybertronian with the X-Genom to pull this off.

"Gozer was trampling the planet and destroyed a bunch of Decepticons, even a couple Combiner teams." That last part's not too impressive a feat. After seeing Phelan's review of "B.O.T." I'm pretty convinced you could take out a Combiner with a dollar store laser pointer or a decently-sized rock. Edit: Maybe the sudden change to the War for Cybertron Megatron was supposed to be his ghost devolving into a more monstrous form, as we've seen with characters like the Scoleri Brothers and the Librarian's more ghoulish appearance. Granted we don't see any other cybertronian ghosts do this, but maybe it's Megatron's violent emotions, relentless rage, and betrayal by his most loyal lieutenants that's causing it.

Whenever I hear people get put down for the things they like I just imagine one of three people; 1.) Karen's, 2.) People who have sad lives or 3.) Someone who is a fan but is ridiculed for liking the same thing and blames other fans for it. Anyway great video as always Linkara can't wait for next week.

There's also that time Megatron possessed Bumblebee in Transformers Prime.... but that was from a neural interface called the cordical psychic patch, which is the least outlandish way he's done it.

This comic is a welcome breath of fresh air if only because of how FUN it is. Feels a bit like a kid's fanfic idea come to life and given some polish and, it works. Good job to everyone involved in making it.

This comic was already surprising me with how goofy yet highly knowledgeable it was with franchise lore, but the absolute best part of this entire thing has to be *exasperated Optimus Prime.* Clearly, the writers had so much fun with this crossover.

My favourite honestly is when Starscream just decides to shoot Silmer because he felt like it, followed by a conversation with Peter Venkman while human sized. This is the stuff I read for. Fun fact: their are technically three characters Frank Welker voiced that being Megatron Soundwave and Ray Stantz since he voiced him in the real ghostbusters cartoon.

Actually, transformers sparks being ghosts makes sense in transformer universe, since Ghosts are explicitly made of negatively charged energy--thus the proton stream, and total protonic reversal.

If you like Ernie Hudson and Soundwave, I recommend "Transformers Prime", which heavily features both!

As a bonus, the electrical ghost they encounter is Killerwatt, who was the focus of a The Real Ghostbusters episode~

I love how this comic got Optimus's sense of humor, reminds me of my favorite line in the G1 episode "Prime Target", "Amazing, A Booby Trap That Actually Catches Boobies", never stops bringing a smile to my face. Also missed crossover opportunity, Soundwave with Ray Parker Jr, come on!

Most people might think that reimagining a goofy monster of the week as a powerful cosmic being is a hell of a weird way to reinterpret the mythology... and it is, but may I remind people that in IDW's Transformers vs. GI Joe comic, Kremzeek is reimagined as a soul eating demon that stalks the Transformers afterlife (and that's not even the weirdest that comic gets with reinterpreting either franchise's respective mythos).

Transformers has been killing it with the crossovers recently. Star Trek, Ghostbusters, Terminator, Back to the Future, and there's also been toys based on Top Gun and X-Men

Got to hand it to them though, the title "Ghosts of Cybertron" is pretty damn cool.

Given sparks are Transformer souls, I don't think Beast Wars retconned Starscream's Ghost so much as explained WHY he's a ghost. He's got a mutated soul that just persisted after death, and allowed him to possess others.

From what I can tell, the War for Cybertron inspired look for Megatron's final form was based on a scrapped idea for a new body to continue the Aligned continuity rather than a new toy.

The Design that Megatron takes on after being expelled from Ectotron was actually from a Transformers MMO/moba title called "Transformers Universe" which took place between Fall of Cybertron and the show Transformers Prime. The game was unfortunately scrapped, but it did have a beta and people were able to record videos about it before the game's cancellation. If you're ever curious, I highly recommend checking it out.

Re: being a Soundwave fan. In G1 continuity, Megatron leaves Soundwave in command on Cybertron when he goes after Prime in the first episode. Soundwave wins the war and rules Cybertron with an iron fist for *4 MILLION YEARS* before giving power back to Megatron. As far as I can tell, Soundwave is maybe the most competent dictator in all of western fiction.

This definitely needs a sequel. Imagine if The Boogeyman from The Real Ghostbusters showed up, maybe possessing one of the characters, and maybe even Unicron.

IDW & whoever they’ve been parterning with have for the most part been on a roll with this Collaborative crossover line & stories. Crossover stuff I’d like to see down the line for a comic/toy: 1. Toy of the Star Trek Transformer & comics for the Top Gun & X-Men Transformer toys. 2. A Beast Wars/MLP Transformer 3. Resurrecting the aborted JLA/Transformers that was drawn by Phil Jimenez. Toys could include Green Lantern Optimus Prime & Batmobile Transformer. 4. Doctor Who and TARDIS Transformer. 5. Power Rangers & unique Zord Transformers with the Rangers as Headmasters. 6. TMNT & Turtle Van Transformer 7. Knight Rider & KITT/KARR Transformer 8. A-Team & GMC Vandura Transformer 9. Stephen King’s Christine 10. The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine

Considering the ending, the crossover is definitely part of the main IDW Ghostbusters timeline, so Ectotron could appear in a future Ghostbusters event comic.

2:04 - I'm rather impressed that the Ghostbusters were able to find a uniform for Optimus Prime in his size.

Apparently that monstrous Megatron that appears after being forced out of Ectotron is his design for the short-lived Transformers Universe online game. That's a deep cut right there.

Honestly it's amazing how as far as I'm aware, there's never a Ghostbusters crossover with Scooby-Doo.

This is a fun comic. It's what got me into the IDW Ghostbusters comics since it's the same creative team. Well, from 2011 onwards at least.

So, while this might sound like a 'aktually'... That isn't War for Cybertron Megatron... It's his canceled Transformers Universe form. A literal ghost. Edit: Oh, and I wouldn't even count it as an 'actually'... Because they're the same character. I... Think... That 'Aligned' attempted retcon they had really ended up anything but.

Comics like this are SO COOL because of all the little details.

I laughed so hard at the reveal that the first and foremost thing Starscream thinks could be able to single-handedly destroy his entire home planet... is himself! If Cybertron was fueled by this robot's hubris, the Transformers would never have need for a single sliver of Energon ever again!

I love the dynamic between Venkman and Starscream. They're like two con-men, and I imagine they'd have A LOT to talk about. Good idea. :)

This was fun, I kinda want him to cover all of the ghostbusters crossovers. Maybe make it part of the annual Halloween reviews, he alternates the franchises he covers every couple of years so it makes sense. My favorite IDW ghostbusters crossovers are the ones based on the various different versions of the ghostbuster. Especially the ones where they meet the 2016 reboot ghostbusters, they seem to understand how they are both similar and different from the originals and play with it in interesting ways.

I agree with the meddling executives. The War for Cybertron Megatron is, indeed, the best Bersion. All other Bersions of Megatron will never be as good as that Bersion.

This was a very good crossover. Ghostbusters and Transformers are awesome and seeing them together is equally awesome. Ectotron is a great character and I enjoyed him. Great job as always, Linkara! 😎👍🏻❤️

You know,I wasn't sure about Viga's title card art at first compared to Dr. Crafty's but I have to say these past few ones have been really good! Can't wait to see more! Also when are we going to see Bionicle meets Transformers? There is SO much potential there!

For those wondering about the heads dangling from Gozerscream's chain, they are, clockwise from top-right: Shockwave, Optimus, Megatron, and _Jetfire._ Why Jetfire? Because in the G1 cartoon he used to be friends with Starscream prior to the Autobot-Decepticon war. Jetfire was lost during a scientific expedition to Earth and was eventually found in the Arctic once the war came to modern day Earth. Since the 'Cons were the first to find him, Screamer used his friendship to get Jetfire to join them and _very nearly_ succeeded until he saw what a bunch of jerks they were and joined up with the 'Bots. With Jetfire's head on Gozerscream's chain, one can assume that in this continuity that something similar happened with Jetfire & Starscream. Like Lewis said, this comic is _loaded_ with easter eggs from both franchises, and that was just *one example* from the more obscure side for Transformers.

The funny thing about the Starscream ghost thing is a few different incarnations bring it back in one form or another somehow. For example, in Energon after his death in Armada, he was resurrected, but they didn't have enough energon for the process so he wasn't fully revived, lacking a physical body and being a ghost basically. Even after he was later fully revived with an actual physical body he still retained some of his ghost-like powers, such as the ability to turn invisible, which allowed him to dodge attacks by disappearing and then reappearing behind people for sneak attacks.

War for Cybertron is my favorite BERSION of Megatron, I'll tell you what!

The ticket bit is actually based upon a deleted scene from I think the first movie, where Ecto-1 was supposed to be artificially intelligent & ends up freaking out cop who tries to give it a ticket! Ultimately, it was cut, but the concept works well in this crossover featuring a Transformer whose vehicle mode is Ecto-1! Also, the ghost of Starscream also appeared in Beast Wars (somehow traveling into the past) & it was revealed that Starscream had a mutated indestructible spark which lead the Maximals development of Protoform X/Rampage who unfortunately ended up becoming a deranged cannibalistic serial killer who's spark was cut in half, with one half eventually used by Beast Wars Megatron to give life to a clone of Pedacon turned Maximal Dinobot (this came back to haunt him as Rampage's death resulted in the clone gaining Dinobot's personality assisting the Maximals in the final battle of the Beast Wars)!
