Transformers Studio Series 86 Commander Class ULTRA MAGNUS Review 

Finally Ultra Magnus getting the respect he deserves. He's such an underrated and mistreated character in most things he's in. He's incredibly powerful and this figure captures that vibe perfectly! This is absolutely someone worthy of leading the Autobots and standing up to Megatron/Galvatron! I hope we can see an IDW commander class Ultra Magnus in the future, with his MTMTE design. Takara Combiner wars Magnus was close to being perfect but could definitely use an update. That design is 👌👌👌

That is one heck of a transformation, amazing engineering!

That transformation looks so fun. Lots of large pieces moving around, NO FIDDILY PARTS, satisfying clicks, and things actually hold together. That's the kind of transformation I want... it seems like such a breath of fresh air for a transformation.

This thing looks about as close to perfect as you can expect from a retail figure

All this learning and improving in the 86 series makes me all the more hype for the eventual 86 devastator

While I love the white prime gimmick, (because the armoring up was always a cool feature, like ultra magnus’s second stage) it’s awesome to see hasbro engineer the trailer to never separate

The complexity of the transformation scheme, finally rivals those of 3rd party creations. Well done, Hasbro...a promising leap forward in quality ❤❤❤

You can't convince me this isn't Masterpiece-grade with that insane transformation, can't wait for Hasbro to ship mine~

Honestly tho its quite amazing to see an Ultra Magnus whose entire body being the entire truck and trailer of the vehicle form

I was surprised to not see you comment on the stress marks that the low front panels (of the trailer) get when you tab them in. Mine got them by just trying to tab them normally and I freaked out. I can see your copy has them too. So to me that was a huge bummer on such an expensive (but otherwise beautiful) figure.

This guy is definitely my most anticipated figure of the last few years! I was never a fan of the siege mould when it came out, and I kept hoping for an earth mode version. Then when the SS86 sub-line got announced I was really hoping we’d finally get the super accurate Ultra Magnus, but instead we got the kingdom “earth mode” figure; which I skipped out on; because I still had hope we’d get the SS86 version. And boy am I glad that I waited, because this guy looks phenomenal! And this was another fantastic review as always PvP :D

Hm. Really cool. While I’ve just got and like Siege Magnus, this definitely looks like an upgrade. I will say though that I do have a couple issues with him. 1. He’s too big. While it makes sense that he’d be big since he transforms from his truck and trailer, he shouldn’t be bigger that Grimlock and I especially don’t like him being that much bigger than Galvatron because while I haven’t read the British Marvel Transformers comics, I like the idea of Magnus and Galvatron being rivals and I don’t think either should really have a hight advantage over the other. Commander is definitely the price point for Magnus but it’s definitely not the size for him 2. He looks like he has the weirdest looking Hot Rod shoulders ever. While the arms aren’t mounted in the body, his arm isn’t hinging out from his shoulder. 3. I’m starting to find a weird annoyance with TF figures recently in that they get the shin to thigh ratio wrong. His thighs and shins should be the same length if you want a figure to take a knee Besides those. He looks like a great figure and if I can’t find Armada Prime around Christmas time, I might grab Magnus.

A more direct comparison would be with CW Ultra Magnus, which was also a cab and trailer turning into a robot. I really like that figure but it looks like SS86 UM has better articulation and seems more substantial. I have the older UM and the new one on pre-order, so it will be interesting to see how they match up.

He looks amazing his alt mode is perfect. Just on bloody problem. He is wayyyyyy to big. He shouldn't be taller than the dinobots. Let alone that size. I figured he would be taller than kingdom by a lil and be shorter than grimlock. This is the carnage in c Minor magnus

Thanks for the excellent review. I was going to cancel this because the figure is fairly wide and the price is close to $100. Pretty high in my opinion and I was almost satisfied with the old version. But after seeing your review, the engineering is so great and Hasbro did a lot for this figure. I think they did everything I could ask for and the price seems good for what we are getting.

I gotta say, I really don't understand why some people aren't into the internal white optimus model inside of Ultra Magnus - For me personally, that's the coolest thing about the character/figure. I love the idea of a regular transformer turning out to be a smaller transformer wearing massive power armour the whole time. I've been meaning to pick up a Magnus, but unfortunately this one won't be it ):

Finally a Review of this amazing figure! Dude that Ultra Magnus is super super amazing!!! The complex transformation, the Cartoon accuracy on Robot and Truck mode is awesome and the articulation too! I wanna have him so badly now, he is gonna be on my Dream Transformers list

I Really Wish That The Studio Series Would Be Doing On Buzzworthy Bumblebee 86 Ravage

While I'm definitely getting the Armada Prime, Ultra Magnus is still a must. very much Like Galvatron, Rodimus, and IMO Ironhide/Ratchet this is for anybody who's waited literally for years for proper, well iterations of these G1/movie characters with modern engineering. Most amazing to me is how not one mode is sacrificed/compromised for the other. Though the truck is mostly hollow it still looks fantastic, properly fills out the bot mode completing even the back, and the trailer is both functional and super articulate. The additional light piping is also a nice surprise as is the selection of weaponry/blast effects.

I really wanted the inner white prime, but ultimately I think that this was the best way to make Magnus here. The transformation is just incredible. That said, the fact the cab can separate from the trailer makes me really hope we get a separate release for a compatible white prime. Would really give the best of both worlds for everyone, without hindering this figure.

I actually like this one more than the Legacy version.

Now *this* is the best mainline Magnus ✅ Screen accuracy (front and back, both modes) ✅ Excellent transformation (minimal kibble, no backpack) ✅ Playability (guy comes apart, can store other bots and even has a ramp) ✅ Non-intrusive gimmicks (spring loaded Matrix chamber, detachable limbs and the aforementioned ramp)

Just from the gallery at the start i can tell this guy perfectly captures the g1 aesthetic

This was the First transformer I got for a Christmas present in the 80's. The new ones dont even come close to the old ones

Just got this guy in the mail. He's AWESOME! You definitely make lining up all the parts to make the truck very easy, though. Mine was difficult and the truck part popped off. But this guy is a great piece. The limbs popping off seems like it is where a decent chunk of the price went. Would've preferred that spent on some paint/ accents on the cab of the truck, some better shoulders, and a clip to hold the arms in robot mode.

i was sold on this figure on the movie accuracy of the robot mode alone. but then they nailed the transformation AND made the trailer detach only in vehicle mode. that... that was so extra and they definitely didn't have to do that... but the fact that they went the extra mile just made my jaw drop. i feel like a kid again just seeing this level of care and passion going into a figure

Wow this figure is a mini masterpiece in my opinion, the engineering of this figure is like what you say it's really flawless, I will definitely buy one of this SS86 Ultra Magnus.

I actually got the Siege Ultra Magnus Spoiler edition figure in the mail today just 1 or 2 hours after you made this video. I love it already and don't really need this Commander Class figure. But it still looks super cool 🤩 Great video, Ultra Magnus is my favorite Autobot and It makes me happy that there's so many figures of him out now.

yeah, I think this ultra. Magnus is very cool however, I might have to get the siege/kingdom version because the studio series version is just too big for me I mean I know that on the siege/kingdom version you have to take apart to get the full look and this one you don’t have to, however I still want to get the siege version

I have mine seating in my pile of loot on BBTS right now and can't wait until I line him up with the other 86 line figures. Didn't expect to get him so early in the year

Personally I loved the white prime addition in kingdom, but still, this is VERY impressive out of all the Ss 86 figures we have gotten! My hope is that we might get a fully complete 86 movie lineup. This could mean we might get a new mold for G1 accurate 86 Optimus prime, instead of a reissue of Earthrise prime.

So glad this came out during the part of my life where I like transformers still and have disposable income.
