TRANSFORMERS: THE BASICS on APELINQ 

My favourite detail about Uprising Apelinq is that his body design is based on the Transformers Crossovers Incredible Hulk toy.

ROTB Apelinq sharing actors with Depth Charge was an added delight.

It's interesting to note that the original BotCon Apelinq was widely considered to be a self-insert of former BotCon organizer Glen Hallit, as both are former engineers. That, and Apelinq being a super smart and powerful nigh-unstoppable character compounded to the contemporary critique that he was a fanwank OC.

It sucks that we never got to see Apelinq and Airazor's robot modes...

I've usually been at least somewhat familiar with the obscure characters over the years, but this was a complete blank for me, great work as always

Rise of The Beasts was my first encounter with the character and when I saw the character appear on the big screen of my local cinema. I knew I wanted an Apelinq toy for my Transformers collection. Never knew about the character or toys link to the Transformers conventions. Really does make it worth watching the Basics to find all about these characters.

Fun fact about Apelinq in ROTB, according to TFWiki, his CG model is a copy of Optimus Primal with extra add-ons, since the intro with the Maximals was made quickly after test audiences didn’t like the original opening with Optimus and Transit. Which, I find pretty interesting. Since it’s a good use of reusing CG assets, and a subtle callback to Apelinq’s toy being a simple reuse of Optimus Primal’s toy.

Frankly, this era of beast wars underground comics are one of my favorite phases of the brand. shame they're soooo obscure and hard to get into.

From a tactical scientific commanding officer of the Wreckers to now the Previous Leader of the Maximals. It’s nice that nowadays, obscure characters are getting more attention

How you keep track of all these characters / alternate universes / timelines etc is beyond me, Chris. Congratulations on another great video.

First found your channel mid quarantine in 2020 when I was just trying to fill the time and 3 years later I couldn’t be happier I did because it resparked and grew my childhood love for transformers

There's something very funny about those old con-exclusive characters, in that they were usually made by somewhat grown-up amateur fans and were therefore basically OCs with all the trappings of that. Nightracer definitely had a "this character features in a 20,000-word fanfiction where she dates Starscream" vibe about her, but it's really only noticeable with context. Apelinq, meanwhile, is... "hey guys, check out my cool new character! he's a former engineer, like me lol, but he invented a machine that lets him make anything real with the internet like green lantern. he leads the wreckers and he's a super great fighter. his tech spec stats seemed a bit high tho, so i gave him a speed of only 8. he looks just like optimus primal but i made him red and green because i like those colors. also i have this art of him later on when he gets to have the same powers as the matrix and becomes SENTINEL MAXIMUS." This sounds like I'm ragging on him, but I honestly find it very charming.

I had never heard of Apelinq till I saw Rise of the Beasts. It's till now I'm actually learning more about him.

If we can get a Legacy Overload to combine with Armada Prime, I really hope we get a repaint/remold into that Sentinel Maximus.

Great Chris! I was really meaning to look him up as Apelinq to me was just a non-cannon name known better to rich or just super dedicated collectors, not budget restricted collectors like myself. I love to see in the future with his big screen debut, we laugh about us considering him "obscure".

The original Apelinq was my first convention exclusive toy, so the character has a special little place in my heart.

I was aware the character existed, enough to be baffled by the inclusion when watching the movie. I never really knew or remembered anything about him, and I gather that his inclusion in the film was a fairly last minute decision, but it's still neat that such an obscure character could play such an important role in the movie

Rise of the beasts was my introduction to this cool character ❤

I had read about him on TF wiki, but I thought that he was just a recolor character that was another medic. Seems like there's a lot more to him than that. Was totally surprised they used him in the movie.

I first discovered Apelinq and the Wreckers as a whole doing research on Beast Wars. Never went to Botcon but I know the characters well. Including Arcee and Primal Prime.

I recognized Apelinq's name while watching ROTB, but I couldn't remember where I first heard it. Nice to hear he was around during the Beast Era, which was technically my first introduction to the world of Transformers (the other being the Unicron Trilogy, which was where I recognized the franchise of Transformers)

Cryotek, (Who honestly should've been called "Cryotech"), is another one I hope to see oneday. Something about this TM2 Megs repaint with Ice Powers is endearing to me~

I remembered his toy during the Beast Wars run. I was shocked but glad to see him get some love on the big screen. It wasn't just cameo but also a speaking part too and promotion from previous rank

I grew up on Beast Wars, and I was deeply invested in reading the story of this version of the Wreckers on various fan wikis. I had a dream at one point of owning the comic, until I learned what convention exclusives are and realized if I ever DID see one I'd likely have to spend an obscene amount of money on it.

I will never get my dad's name for him "apelincon" out of my head! 🤣😂

NGL, initially thought that Apelinq was a character made for the film. Rather surprised to see that he has such a storied background and history.

there is a autobot named STRATOSPHERE which is a scottish pilot that was falling apart like jetfire and bulldog but the surge of energon when bumblebee revived actually reveresed all the aging rust thay plagued him and became good as new oh and those that his VA was too familiar cuz he is voiced by the same guy that voiced the scotsman in samurai jack

I've heard of apelinq before but when rotb came out then I started to look up stuff on him. Your video showed me even more I didn't know about him. Love these videos. So helpful for info and I always look up your videos first when looking up stuff on characters 👍👍👍

It's been months and I still can't believe APELINQ of all characters got a big screen appearance and not even a cameo, an ACTUAL important role. Before Ratrrap, Waspinator, Dinobot, Blackarachnia, etc.

I've been waiting for someone to do videos dealing with collectible merchandise and their connection to various storytelling mediums. While some character stay the same their is usual some changes made for individual projects, and for some projects major changes to characters, and making stories for these different variants and their connection to the projects they were made for is always interesting.

Obscure Characters Month is the best month here. I haven't seen the movie yet but I find myself wanting to find a moment to check it out soon. Was never a fan of Beast Wars so I would never have known this character existed. Good times.

I understand that Apelinq was trying to distract Scourge so that it would take him longer to find the transwarp key, but at the same he could have just left with the other Maximals he didn’t really need to stay behind.

I completely forgot about this guy, after watching Rise of the Beasts in theatres. Probably because he was killed off very early in the movie. So I barely got to know him as a character.

When I watched ROTB, my mate leaned over and whispered "Is that motherfuckers name Ape Lincoln?" Now that's the only thing I can call this character.

Seeing apelinq on rotb was so suprising i love how the movie brang out characters no one would expect Like the villains! Who knew we would have battletrap! and Scourge! AND EVEN NIGHTBIRD!! I find it amazing they made those the main villains instead of megatron

I encountered Apelinq with The Wreckers comics. I even owned an issue of said comic.

I still think it would've been somewhat better if a different character fulfilled Apelinq's role in Rise of the Beasts, like Dinobot. We all know the reason why Apelinq was the one to sacrifice himself was because the writers didn't want to kill off a more well known character so early in the film.

I first heard the name Apelinq in the Basics video on the Wreckers, then I heard of his Rise of the Beasts role and was stunned. Super underrated, but really cool!

I’d heard about the character but didn’t know he debuted at botcon. Always thought he was one of the many Universe recolors that found their way to the local Kaybee’s Toys.

The fact that such an obscure character was brought into such a mainstream role is what further cements ROTB as being (in my dumb stupid opinion) the best Transformers movie

I'm a huge transformers fan, and indeed, I had never even heard of Apelinq until RotB. I'm glad they used an obscure character, and they did an awesome job with him too! I'm hoping for a leader primal retool sometime soon.

I was introduced to Apelinq for the first time in ROTB, and as much as i liked the appearance and design of him, he looked terrifying at the same time, could ve succeeded as an evil character easily "design point of view" , and was sad he s gone too soon, i wished he had deeper role in the story... anyways, this video was awesome and thx so much for the time and effort put into this one!

I knew apelinq has a past storyline in the convention comics and toyline. But I didn’t know what. I always love learning new transformers information.

I actually never encountered Apelinq before his unexpected appearance in the recent Transformers Rise of the Beasts, but I definitely consider him my recent favorite in the Transformers lore. 👍👍👍
