*Can you imagine what it was like for Trypticon in the Aligned Continuity?* Guy was brought to life as a Space Station, finally got a reptilian body when his T-Cog was destroyed, got owned by the Aerialbots and Optimus Prime, was stuck in deep stasis while The Autobots siphoned off his Energon reserves, got forcefully transformed into a space ship by Megatron, was stuck as a space ship for countless years, *FINALLY WOKE UP WHEN MEGATRON PUT DARK ENERGON INTO THE SHIP,* only to find out he was permanently stuck as a space ship for the remainder of his days before the Dark Energon was removed from the ship. The guy may be a mindless killing machine, *but I honestly feel kinda bad for him.*

Godzilla: who are you? Trypticon: I'm you but a robot Godzilla:......you wanna destroy Tokyo?

I loved the parallels between him and Metroplex in the video game. He was forced to become the Nemesis and belittled by Megatron as it happened. Metroplex, meanwhile, willing sacrificed himself and was mourned by Optimus Prime.

I always liked the G1 voice for him. Its just a byproduct of the actor but i always felt pain in trypticon's screaming, like he didnt have to capacity to fully understand why he existed and why he was raging and that frustrated him. Hes anguished to be alive

It's amazing that there never was an official Godzilla crossover with Transformers with either Marvel or IDW since both companies got the license. Still, great video on Trypticon. Definitely looking forward to the videos on Powerglide and Mirage

I appreciate that you edited "ME SMASH HIM" to come out of Trypticon's mouth rather than Galvatron's.

I love how Chris did this episode and then literally a month later Cyberverse debuted a new version of Trypticon

I remember it used to be an accepted thing in fandom that the Japanese dub of Five Faces tried to fix the Scramble City thing (IIRC by saying they were merely repairing him rather than creating him. Not sure how that would have squared with people living in him), this video was the first time I found out that wasn't true, so it's definitely educational for all levels of fan.

When theres a basics episode about Trypticon, you know theres gonna be another episode about Metroplex, sworn enemies and both had victories and losses.

When you think about it, Dino bots and similar large animal based Transformers are already similar in size to small kaiju but Trypticon is something else. My dude is basically Godzilla Earth of the transformers

I really hope Trypticon’s G1 profile is explored better in future media. I like the idea of a Decepticon who hates the fact that they were used for war.

If we look at the win loss record of Trypticon and Metroplex in the cartoons, we could come up with this: Metroplex = 3 wins in Transformers G1 Trypticon = 1 win in Headmasters and 1 in Titans Return

I never knew about trypticon. So when I was playing the war and fall of cybertron games and had to escape the space station as it transforms. that was one hell of an entrance for me.

Great episode as always Chris. In regards to characterization of Trypticon I find Budiansky's take more engaging, a giant rampaging monstrosity who's character is fuelled by self loathing and apathy for the war wouldn't be my initial choice for the character to behave but if done well it really has some advantage in whichever story it's featured in. Not to mention his portrayal in War for Cybertron was a breath of fresh air, a character that's been misused mostly as a "dumb, lumbering giant" to be brilliantly used as the final boss to come off as a pure evil monster mocking the player while trying to take him down enhances how much of a genuine threat he is.

It's been years and years but I still can't wrap my head around the fact that Brad Garret of all people voiced 80s' Trypticon.

I loved that they put him in the games. He was such a hard fight. Those games where so good, it is shame that they stopped after two.

I feel like we were damn close to seeing Trypticon in Transformers Prime, when the Nemesis was fueled up with Dark Energon and it became sentient.

As a massive Kaiju fan growing up I’ve always been fascinated by Trypticon. He was one of the first characters I researched on the wiki. Definitely becoming my favorite Titan. (Despite his weakness to water 😂)

I persinally like the idea of Trypticon's main rival being Omega Supreme. War for Cybertron had the right idea.

The War for Cybertron version definitely looks the coolest. I wish there was a toy of him.

Trypticon is my favorite titan and one of my favorite transformer designs ever. I only wish his original personality of a self-loathing robot would be used in tv or movies. It would send a good message about mental health and self-image

In the transformers prime art book,there was concept art of a kaju-esque decepticon who I can alone assume was for tyrpticon, if they decided to take the concept of the ship being alive further in the show

My favourite childhood Decepticon. I live in the UK, so we never got the Trypticon toy. I got him years later. Another brilliant Transformer basics episode. I always look forward to the next one.

The War for Cybertron one was my favorite. Destroying him in the first game was fun and having to reassemble him in the 2nd was interesting.

I absolutely love the War for Cybertron design for Trypticon ! The figure from Planet X is amazing and is a centerpiece of both my Transformer and Godzilla collections .

I remember getting him complete in '01 at a vintage toy store in Lincoln Park. One of the best days of my life😁❤

Always and forever one of my favorite Transformers, had his original toy when I was little and loved it. A couple of interesting trivia bits about G1 Sunbow cartoon Trypticon: -the animators never colored in his eyes -they didn't include the opening cover for his snout cannon -and this includes all versions of him, he was never shown to have the mind-control powers his profile stated he had

Trypticon! Attempting to stomp out all who tremble at the sight of his immense size, brute strength, and for laughing at him for getting his tail whipped by Metroplex.

This episode got me thinking about Hojoni. And the fact that Hojoni was retroactively declared an Inhumanoid. Have we done a Basics episode on The Inhumanoids yet?

As a kid I got Trypticon for Christmas one year when I actually wanted Metroplex but I was happy anyway. It was truely one of the best Christmas presents I ever got.

Thanks for this, the only thing I knew about Trypticon was one episode of the original series where Unicron's head coerces somebot (Starscream?) into stealing replacement eyes. Trypticon and Metroplex both get targeted because the idiot breaks one of the eyes and needs to steal a third. It's nice to finally learn something about the Decepticon transforming city.

I was expecting for Chris to mention gigastorm from beast wars 2 even though he's not trypticon his g1 toy was still remade and retooled as a new character gigastorm the super form for megastorm.

Man, it was my dream as a kid to own one of those big bots.

I wonder if the they had Metroxplex always throw Tryticon into water so that they could always have the option to have him rise out of the water like Godzilla.

Recently both Trypticon and Metroplex got a role in TF Earth Wars cell phone game as playable characters. Quite amazing!

Trypticon was always a fave of mine and became my first ever Convention merch at the Cincinnati Comic Expo in 2018, hes in storage rn with most my old collection but im trying to get him and the rest of my old stuff back.

Did you know that the Brunt figure from Siege is a Weaponizer? With other figures from the War for Cybertron toyline, he can disassemble into weapon implacements and armor for other larger toys. Same has happened for Metroplex's partner Sixgun and Scorponok's partner Fasttrack.

I was hoping for a mention of Gigastorm somewhere. Still was pretty packed though.

If I remember right, I think Trypticon also appears in the Japanese NES game based on the Transformers as an end level boss. In the game, you play as Ultra Magnus and I think Trypticon is actually fought more than once. However, based on what I've seen, the game was extremely difficult, and it was pretty lackluster at best.

My favorite trypticon story is when my kids used him as a hotel for their calico critters

High Moon Studios not only gave us the best Version of Trypticon, they also gave us some of the best story telling of any Transformers series.

City Of Fear is the main reason I love Flywheels. When I saw that he (as Skytread) was being recreated in Siege, I had to get him. And that triggered my return to Transformers collecting after nearly 30 years.

Awesome video Chris! Trypticon is one of my favs! I remember one of the first episodes of the G1 Transformers that showed him was one where he was just roaming across the landscape in search of Metroplex. He was so gigantic he was moving thru the clouds it seemed like.

This need an addendum: in a surprising turn of events, trypticon returned to televiosion in the show "Transformers: cyberverse" although he had a very unfamiliar characterization. In this show, he acted as some sort of mafia boss, leading a group of unaligned transformers that included even Bug bite in an attempt to conquer cybertron by immobilizing its inhabitants, tho its attempts were foiled and in an omage to the original american comic book he was defeated by the dinobots, tho this time they used their new combined form: volkanicus"

Yo ngl I fucking love war for Cybertron Trypticon his design is so freaking cool and his story about his spark being an amalgamation of other Sparks is creepy but cool

Trypticon was always a favorite of mine as a kid. I didn’t have him, but my friend did. When I got older I eventually got the Takara reissue and then good old Titans Returns Trypticon. I always loved him in Call of the Primitives and how he carried all the animal transformers.

Caught me by surprise with this video today. Great work on this one! Really was tempted to get the big beast if I find his figure.

Wow, another great video filled with new info. I didn't realize that Scramble City took place in the 1980s. I thought it took place in the 90s or something, between the end of Season 2 in the 80s and before the start of the Movie in 2005. I love how he was converted from station to robot and then to the Nemesis. He's far deeper than I thought.

One thing not mentioned, Trypticon actually made another appearance in a cartoon, Transformers: Cyberverse, as the leader of a group of mercenaries from another world.

We loved Aligned Tripticon... just wish he was restored back to his Titan form during the Unicron episodes... imagine Tripticon fighting that giant Unicron Avatar...

I bought the original Trypticon toy with my birthday money when I was a kid, but I had buyer's remorse immediately on getting it home; without the batteries to power it, it was little more than a static statue (although a very good looking one) in robot mode. When I finally did get enough "C" batteries together to power the thing, I found that he could barely walk, and still wasn't very fun to play with. Incidentally, this is directly why I hate the idea of that self-transforming Optimus Prime figure: It's expensive and cool to look at, but real toys need some tactile interaction, and Trypticon has very little -- but self-changing OP has even LESS. Anyway, great video as always. Thank you for posting!

😮 Okay Trypticon's original profile was new thing for me to know. If I would have to rank 4 og City-bots/Titans, Trypticon would be on first. I'll admit that Trypticon's TR (later fixed release) or 2015 reissue would be neat to have, I really have soft spot for Trypticon's 2006 TF: Classics toy which is first time when Trypticon has official robot mode.

I got Trypticon on Christmas of 1986. That was a very awesome Christmas for sure! I used to love launching Full Tilt down the ramp and watching the satellite dishes rotate while it was in city mode.

Trypticon is my favorite titan. He's currently the only titan I have. I have multiple copies of the comic where Grimlock and the Dinobots drive him off and Grimlock gets crowned leader of the Autobots at the end. I hated facing him in the War for Cybertron game, that last fight with him was rough, I died dozens of times to him. I did really like his involvement in the game and being a boss. I also really liked Omega Supreme as a "Firefly" spaceship design.

A couple months after this episode. He was fully introduced into transformers earth wars as a part of your base. But you had to be Hq 17 and comeplete his campaign to unlock him. And skorponok was added later

Scored the original Tryticon on a great 80s Christmas morning but lost him sometime in the 90s. Rolling through Target and I saw the new version big as life on the shelf. Without hesitation I plucked the monster box from the shelf and put it into the shopping cart Overriding the skeptical look from the wife. Great Toy that brought back so many great childhood memories. “Me go smash metroplex!”
