+Dennis Moulton AKA GotBot Thanks man. My Greenscreen/chroma keying still needs some work. It's so hard to keep the screens from reflecting off the plastic surfaces of the toys and LEGO. Spike falling was green screen. The actual catch was not, but I painted out the arm holding Spike. Fun stuff, but this level of detail takes me a long time to make. That's the downside. I can't wait for everyone to see what I have planned for the story as it progresses!! :-)

I know it wasn't a lie. I was just screwing with you. I did actually find ToyWorld's Bii on TFsource, but they don't have it in stock. No other place I looked even has it listed. I don't think I'd get it even if it was, because I'm drawn more to figures that accurately portray characters from Transformers media. ToyWorld's Bii has none of that whatsoever. Ah well, it was worth a shot. Thanks anyways!

+Bj Lewis everything was 15 FPS with very few exceptions. 24 was just too much for me, and too many of the toys have ratcheted joints, Maki fit very hard to animate. That is why Devastator looks a bit choppier, even though it was shot with the same FPS. Glad you liked it!

I was thinking about this comment, and realized I didn't do a good job answering it. When you ask about the transformations, I don't use a set number of frames. I literally make up the transformation EVERY TIME I do one. There are a few key pieces you should know about my process. For starters, I do my best to lay out all my voices, music and sound effects with still temp shots BEFORE i start animating... this allows me to export a "soundtrack" to animate to. So most of the time I know exactly when to start transforming, or when a character is talking, etc. This didn't ALWAYS happen, or maybe I changed a voice or effect after that, but most of the time I do it this way. Secondly, I use Dragonframe. Best purchase I could have made. I load the soundtrack into dragon frame and I make a not on when a certain line or sound effect happens... In this example, a transformation SFX. Then I can visibly see how many frames that sound will take. I try to always start the transformation with 3-5 frames worth of slow/smaller movements, things for the eye to see moving... then I go into a much more rapid transformation and end with a slow finish. When Transforming, DO NOT show how the toy transforms... meaning each step. INSTEAD, think about how it COULD look if it were alive? With stop motion I hide a good chunck of the transformation, and focus on keeping something more constant in alignment. For example, if you look at my Optimus transformation, There is 1 frame that the entire lower half of the body changes completely, finishing the torso, swapping the grill, rotating the legs, everything in 1 frame, but you don't notice it because I keep the windows of the truck with very little movement so the eye is drawn to that part. So if a waist rotates, only show that if you WANT to show that part of the transformation. I did this with Streetwise a bit. I have many other tricks that go into making the tranformation look the way it does, but hopefully that gives you a glimpse into how I approach things like a Transformation. Did this answer your question better?

Yeah it did. I was doing basically every step in my prologue test. Thinking I won't do as much going forth so my transformations are a lot quicker.

That's the beauty (and the curse) of Stop Motion... While you have to show each frame in the motion, you can CHOOSE what to show and what not to. My favorite transformations are the ones that look like the cartoon or the ones that look more fluid. But I will tell you this, if you don't use a program that lets you use "onion skinning", where you can see part of the last frame overlaying the top of your new frame, it will be nearly impossible to line up the changes so they look fluid. Remember to pick a feature that what you want the eye to watch. For me it was the front grill for Prowl, the feet for Bumblebee, the chest windows for Prime, the ladder and front leg of Hotspot.. etc... Everything else you can cheat as needed. I sorta feel like a magician who just gave away the card trick...
